Black Ops II guns can Prestige

Treyarch game design director reveals weapons in newest Call of Duty can earn Prestige levels.

Next month's Call of Duty: Black Ops II will offer up 55 levels and 10 Prestige levels for players to earn, but that is not all. Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar revealed over Twitter that the game will offer weapon Prestiges.

"Did you know that you can Prestige any gun two times?" he wrote.

Weapon levelling was introduced in last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but no Call of Duty game to date has allowed players to Prestige their weapons. It is not clear what benefit players will have to doing so in the new shooter.

In Black Ops II, players can enter Prestige mode once they reach the game's 55 level cap. However, unlike past games, doing so no longer resets progress. Players will keep their unlocked weapons and items in exchange for Prestige tokens that can be spent on additional Create-A-Class slots, among other things.

Black Ops II is due out November 13 for Xbox 360, PC, and PlayStation 3. A Wii U version will launch with the system in North America November 18.

So many haters of COD games. COD gets coverage because its so popular, you may not like the game and that's fine but millions of people buy it every year because they enjoy it.   I like COD mostly because of the style of game play and getting to prestige.

There's nothing special about getting to prestige really but, for me personally it adds something to the game gives multi-player a purpose beyond just the normal multi-player experience.  I find it similar to a single player game where once you beat the game whats left to do, well getting to prestige just gives me something else to do.

Sure COD may not be doing anything super innovative but its a fun multi-player game to play and when your in the  FPS genre what is there really to do that is going to make your game so special. A FPS is a FPS no matter how you slice it.

So, a bigger way of wasting all your time. Do they hand out badges to the guns too? Like the badges-for-Prestige-in-every-other-Call-of-Duty-game-after-and-including-MW-that-were-never-worth-getting-in-the-first-place-but-apparently-people-are-suckers-and-lap-that-shit-up?

Honestly, the games are replaced every year by the next game asking you to do the EXACT same thing all over again, and this game just announced that it's going to ask you to do EVEN MORE of the same thing before next year. How have we not caught on to this yet, society?

Really?  This is news?  Not exactly innovative but rather just an extension of an old formula.  When CoD4 came out with the perk system, THAT was innovative. It wasn't done before in an FPS.  Now it just seems like everyone is doing it.

why don't they try something creative like Counterstrike:GO instead of this crap.

So if you prestige your gun can you get an extra point on the 10 point system?

This will be the first COD game where I prestige then lol, what with keeping all you stuff. That's the most daunting part is leaving your stuff when you prestige and that I cannot bare. With Black Ops 2 though I don't have to.

Why should people care about this at all?

If all you idiots hate cod, so much why do you constantly click on articles/vids related to it, just to spurt your overplayed nonsense. Honestly. I'm not a big cod fan, but you guys are far, far more boring than you claim cod to be.

I don't care what all of y'all are saying. Cod is still the best shooter. Don't matter what they do to it. Mw3 is a good one. Bunch of haters. Bo was good too. This is going freakin awesome too. Bo2 hell yeah.

What's funny is that everyone making fun of this game is going to buy it anyway day one.

So when can we use prestige as a form of picking up the ladies?

timoteo2k1
timoteo2k1

So, the whole point of prestige was to exchange your unlocked weapons for additional create a class slots.

Now, with your weapons following you through prestige that decision in moot.

Hey, it's the annual COD re-release!  When are they just going to forgo the foreplay of titles and start calling it by COD 201x like Madden does?  Any details on that announcement?  "money, money, money, money, yummmm."

Yo dawg, we heard you like prestiging, so we prestiged the capacity to prestige, and we added destiging for when you KD is sinking below 1.0.

@Gravity_Slave I think they are trying to make much better objective play in this COD by making the score streak system more objective based. And the wildcard system gives more freedom of customization and the pick 10 system balances it. And there are a lot of changes in the zombies and the single player.

 @nousername66

Why would playing a game you like be "wasting your time"?  That makes no sense. If they get you to play more of their game, they're doing their job.

@nousername66 I won't say complexity isn't welcome, but you are right. It really depends on how they build this "prestige" system.

@i_like_pie223 I'm afraid a lot of this boils down to consumerism.  There are more people who want to know about CoD than there are people who want to know about XCOM.  I, for one (or two if we count you) am more interested in XCOM, bur realize that I am a stark minority.

 @splinter10

There will always be haters.  If i had a dollar for every introverted tool that condemed CoD's multiplayer and said games like Dark Souls was "better"...I'd buy and sell that twit like a snickers bar....you know you're not dealing with someone making good decisions...

@splinter10 Honestly, I think a lot of them are (or were) fans of the series and just want to see it progress more than it has over the years.

@splinter10 I'm not the biggest cod fan but I'm gonna buy BO2 but I find the cod rants kind of funny tbh. Hell I even do it sometimes just for fun :P

paulsifer42

@MaddenBowler10 I won't buy it first day.  I'm waiting to see if the matching system really does what they say it will.  If not, I'll stick with MW3.  I'm already getting poorly matched there, I don't need a new game to do it to me also.

cronos809

@MaddenBowler10 I agree with this but can't help think that there is only 159 comments on this... seems like a lot, but 159 people don't really matter when thinking about the hundreds of millions of other potential customers

@travo0159 Have you ever used the line "Hey, I've prestiged 6 times, wana come back to my place"?  It works really well :)

paulsifer42

@timoteo2k1 This was my thought too.  The whole point of prestigeing was the choice between guns or... well, prestige (using it's actual meaning).

eriktkire

@paulsifer42  @i_like_pie223 or perhaps its more about the marketing investment from Activision rather than anything else. Everyone knows every major gaming website panders towards certain advertisers... this is clearly one of those moments.

Sneaking in little snippets of something like what's going on with the Unreal 4 engine and why Epic are leaning away from a new Unreal FPS game to launch/promote their yet-to-be-released tech... something that has a major impact on the gaming community since its one of the dominant cross-platform engines in market (including phones), massively popular amongst modders and so forth... that would be worth of snippet updates over "unlocks... you get to keep them this time, so see, we're making the grind for icons and camo skins even more appealing."

In the end this isn't about more people wanting to hear about CoD over anything else like XCOM, it's that Activision can afford to dictate to game sites that it's time to ram more propaganda down our throats.  I believe this falls within the definition of Media Saturation.

 @Venatorcruiser

lol the proof will be the next article a week after launch saying BO2 broke record sales...there is your proof...now sit down.

@i_like_pie223  @eriktkire This is actually the movie that got men interested (as I'd never played any of them before, it's at the bottom), but I imagine I'm not alone on this, there was at least a little press.  Although, I agree that there are some great games that don't get enough of a look.  But, to be honest, I have a hard time being mad at anyone for that.

I don't expect the news industries to do anything other than try and make money.  Like you and I both agree, CoD, Halo, and BF are what the general populace want to know about.  It's only logical for them to do a majority of stories on those.I also can't really blame the populace.  Gaming is my hobby.  It's my only hobby, and I'm poor, so I tend to do a lot of research so that my gaming dollars are well spent and I tend to look for older titles, as they're cheaper.  I can't expect everyone to do what I do.

In turn, I'm afraid it's a case of "that's just the way it is."

@paulsifer42  @i_like_pie223  we do have that one major proven factor that leans towards advertising interference here though... Activision's reputation for doing whatever it takes to make a profit and stay at the top of the food chain.

paulsifer42
paulsifer42

@eriktkire  @i_like_pie223 I agree and I don't.  I don't like any of the conspiracy theories about games paying sites to do stories on them, because I don't think it's happening.  What is happening is that there's  a game (CoD) that people want to read about, simple as that.I really do think there are more people interested in CoD than games like XCOM though.  Their sales are just one indication.  The fact that there are constant news stories about them is another.  If the stories weren't profitable, they wouldn't get written.

paulsifer42
paulsifer42

@SkamArtist  @eriktkire  @i_like_pie223 This is what I meant.  I guess it's not that EVERYONE likes CoD, but more that EVERYONE will read something about CoD.  More views=more ads seen=more money.  Consumerism.

SkamArtist
SkamArtist

@eriktkire  @paulsifer42  @i_like_pie223 It's because of how polarizing CoD is. Any article that mentions CoD brings views. The people who hate it will view the article and comment, and the people who defend it will do the same. It is about consumerism, but only because GS can charge more for ads.
