Black Ops Annihilation DLC slams PS3, PC July 28

Latest $15 add-on for Treyarch's Call of Duty period shooter two weeks out for Sony fans and the computer crowd.

The Annihilation downloadable content for Treyarch's blockbuster hit Call of Duty: Black Ops was released for the Xbox 360 late last month. PlayStation 3 and PC gamers have had to wait, because of the recently renewed timed exclusivity deal Microsoft and Activision have for Call of Duty map packs. However, the wait is nearly over, as Activision has announced that the Annihilation map pack will hit the PS3 and PC on July 28.

The $15 Annihilation map pack--which was first rumored as the Retaliation map pack--contains four new multiplayer maps and one fresh zombie level. The new killing spaces included in the downloadable content are Hangar 18, Silo, Drive-In, and Hazard. The zombie level is titled Shangri-La, described by Activision as "an exotic and mysterious map."

Bring out your dead; it's nearly time for annihilation.

Previously released Black Ops map packs include First Strike and Escalation, which were first released in February and May respectively.

While Call of Duty games Modern Warfare 2 and World at War welcomed two and three postrelease add-on packs respectively, Black Ops might up the ante and bring a fourth. Last month, Treyarch design director David Vonderhaar told gamers to "keep [their] eyes peeled" for a fourth Black Ops map pack.

Its $22 here in Australia. (and our dollar is worth 1.08 of the US dollar) I have all the map packs and yes I will be getting this. Anyone know if its DBL XP like last time ? It also sucks that we dont get it on the 28Th as we are a day ahead of the US so we wait.

Slams huh? Every month I play BO for an hour to see if they patched all the terrible out of the game and all I ever see is "don't have required DLC" for the first 10 minutes. Fix your s**t before I give you more money dbags.

I have never bought a single map pack for cod, I won't be buying mw3 either. There is only so much rehashed formula that I can take.

Yay more overpriced maps for the same game we've been playing the past several years..

@Philly1UPer Yea if you don't play much it may seem like a lot, but if you play many hours it's really nothing. People spend $60 all the time on games that last 10 hours or less and then offer nothing. My son and I get dozens of hours out of each map pack so to me the $15 is a worthy investment. It all depends on your perspective and what you enjoy as a gamer.

Dasim64

@kevin1927z The map packs add a lot of really great game play and are well worth it in my opinion. My son plays CoD all the time and I haven't had an issue paying for the map packs. Each one adds many hours of play and my son in particular has gotten more than our money's worth out of each pack. It's not much different than the people that pay $15 or so each month to play an mmorpg. As long as it's what you enjoy doing the cost is justified. If you don't play that much then for certain don't spend the money. But if you play a lot your're just missing out by not buying the new maps.

Sold black ops and not even bothering with Modern Whorefare 3, too many other BETTER games to play in my free time during summer and this fall

baaa. baaa. they will keep charging these ridiculous prices as long as the sheep keep buying them. What people need to do is to take a stand and stop buying this overpriced crap, but that will never happen. I buy the Call of Duty games because they are top of the line games, but I will never buy any of their map packs until they lower their prices.

@auntbessie I will say, I did enjoy the Zmobies the most out of this series lately. I kinda wish they would just do a full blown zombie game.

Philly1U's got it right but I can't get enough of zombies, they keep releasing them and I keep buying them cos they're a lot of fun, you can't fault Treyarch on their business sense though, they really are milking the Black Ops cow till it's teets are ready to fall off

If they were gonna make new maps, they may as well shoved all the maps together into one DLC, instead of releasing new DLC every month. That would be worth 15$. Sure it would be boring playing the same maps until they release it, but you dont have to play the game.

If you think DLC is "Content made post release that wasnt available at launch" You're disillusioned. ESPECIALLY when there is a new DLC right away, and consistently every 2 months. This was all ready to go forever ago. They looked at the game, and all the maps and said "Sell these with launch, and take these, these, and these, and sell them later". DLC saved gaming companies from the recession losses by passing those losses directly to consumers. Economist Larry says "THUMBS UP FOR STOCKHOLDERS!"

nothing but hypocritical x-box fan boys on here. REAL gamers are good at 15 different games. most of you only play battlefield cause that's what your good at, its sad. they will never change the price for dlc, if anything they'll make it 20$. you guys will continue to pay for playing online like idiots. we will keep getting our system hacked cause sony is a douche! how about we all go back and become original gamers, play some poker, take ten paces, and put 1 bullet in the chamber see who gets lucky.. are you guys good at anything other then complaining?

Fayt1986

content for games should be free..... if you own the game why should we pay for stuff they didnt add befor it got rushed on the market. what really anoyes me is games that launch with dlc on day one..... why isnt it on the game allready? its a scam.

Fandango_Letho

As long as people will buy these maps, Activision will keep on making them. It's easy to blame the company, but the true culprit is the gamer who lays down 15$, if not more, considering XboxLive's point system that always makes you buy more points than you need.

This whole new generation of gaming sux. Yeah the graphics are awesome and give people seizures. The on-line revolution is making people pay wayyy too much for these games with DLC. Some upward $100+ with game purchase and all the DLC.

I hope people at Activision will read the comments in Gamespot and see how gamers will not buy their map packs and futur CoD because of the sh*t they're doing... What did you say? I know it'll sell millions of copies the """incredible MW3""" (CoD must be incredible to sell that much...) but I said GAMERS won't buy CoD, I didn't say kids/noobs/pre-teens/sheep/...

So what is it now, a total of $105 people will have spent on this one game? You could have bought another game entirely for that price, and it would have been a far higher quality than these garbage maps. There's also Team Fortress 2. Constant free updates, and now the game is free as well. Cost: $0 Fun: infinite.

Blackbird34
Blackbird34

People, stop telling Activision to quit milking it. In terms of making more CoD games, yes.... they should give it a rest. But the Black Ops is out and they need to continue making new content. $15 for 5 maps isnt cheap but there are bigger ripoffs. Take Capcom for instance, $5 for a single character on SFIV which was a total piece of junk anyway? Yeah, ripoff. If you don't like Black Ops then don't play it, don't buy the dlc, and most of all... don't come on here posting your annoying comments.

It's hard to stop laughing after what happened to "moderwarfare3.com".. but here you go: Black Ops was so bad that I won't buy the DLC. MW2 anytime, nice shiny weapons and more manly than the pistols for kids guys from Battelfield carry around whilst hiding behind each other. But again, thanks but no thanks. Plus I'm fed up with these extensions that double the price of a game. Who would have bought BO for a hundred bucks/quid/Euros.. seriously?

I'll probably end up file-sharing. It sure beats the hell out of spending $15 when you could split it up and only pay $3.

@DanGleeSack: I have to admit that CoD does not really encourage teamwork, especially on team death match. However, I tend to play Hardcore Domination, where the teamwork is more common. Also, there is many a time that I've dashed out into the open to save a teammate. :p But anyway, what exactly is wrong with Bad Company 2? I assume you're probably played more than I have, and know a bit more about it.

As far as Activisioin goes, nowadays they have went down hill tremendously. Use to back in the day (pre 2000) they were a great company, but right around 2000 they started to go down hill and it shows in their tactics of charging for maps I could make for free on my PC in my spare time. I will say one thing, UT3 for console isn't as good as the PC version, but you can make custom maps on your PC and play them on the console version! So in that respect way to go EPIC Games!

mumrahh1
mumrahh1

Thank God for ID Software. They have never released a game to date without a map editor and Rage comes with the full Map editor the company used to make the maps at release. So, I will for sure be making my own maps and possibly a full conversion for that game! I have previously worked on Rocket Arena Quake 3, Action Quake and made several popular maps for Doom 2 such as Hangar 18, as well as several maps for Unreal Tournament 2 & 3. Map making is my hobby and if a game prevents me from doing so, then I can't support them.

mumrahh1
mumrahh1

I seriously doubt I will be buying any Downloadable maps. I might would buy expansions like they have on PC. For Example, Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction was a full expansion and worth the money. 5 Maps isn't worth 2 cents to me. Now, in regards to map packs if they are free like Rainbow Six, then I will get them. PC shooters always had free maps and had a modding community where anyone could make their own maps! They need to bring this to console!

reyace

definently a waste of money...i used to like black ops,but i never bought the map packs and never will. Zombies is the only good thing about this game. They should have made seperate maps instead of the whole thing...

This is why valve is my favorite company and games distributor... Great support, great games, FREE dlc, amazing sales even on brand new games, lots of free giveaways/contests, and great community support @abompro Bad company 2 was not the best. Battlefield 2 for PC is what you want. The new one is going to have a COD style campaign but with more vehicle involvement and destructible environments and possibly better graphics. The multiplayer is bringing back the 64 players (32 v 32) and jets, which are so fun to fly. I personally like the squad/teamwork aspect of battlefield combined with the realistic recoil/bullet drop and travel/ combined with the destruction and bullet penetration. The lack of kill streaks means that less people camp and people will actually try to heal/revive you. It is just a different more realistic experience then the lone-wolf camp n spray for killstreaks that COD has been for the past 4-5 games. I loved cod 2. Had amazing mods and custom maps with great game play.

@Gabe_Logan_666 The reason people hate on CoD is because of Activision I'd say. Bobby Kotick has a very poor image among gamers (And for good reasons), and it shows from Activisons new practices - churning out sequels on a yearly basis, overpriced DLC, publishing little to no original titles, and the like. Furthermore, their stockholders pretty much destroyed Blizzard's image when the two companies combined. So really, it's not that hard to understand why people dislike Activision so much, and by extension, CoD as well. However, I couldn't give a crap about CoD. It might be a good game (Probably is, given the rave reviews they always get), but I just have no interest in them, especially once Infinity Ward lost most of its key members.

@gabe logan 666 you absolutely right but i dont think that halo is a good game its more like childish so much colours unrealistic

Gabe_Logan_666
Gabe_Logan_666

@gamer15555555: The reason people hate on COD is becasue it's popular. It's a pattern, people hated on Halo when that became popular, now people are hating on COD because its popular and in a few more years I wouldn't be suprised if people will be hating on BF. They really just can't accept the fact that people actually enjoy playing COD just like they enjoy playing their favorite games. I don't understand peoples mentality.

who else has forgotten about the fact that we get map packs a month late and don't care anymore? I think its an advantage. Thanks for giving us PS3 owners a chance to try out the maps on our friends Xbox 360 so we know whether or not to waste our money. Microsoft idiots lol.
