Black Ops 2 due this November - Retail Radar

Spanish retailer indicates Activision's unannounced Call of Duty sequel being readied for release during typical launch window.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will go on sale this November, according to Spanish retail site Fnac.

Is Black Ops 2 coming this November? One retailer thinks so.

Activision had previously confirmed that a new Call of Duty title would ship in 2012, but did not provide a name or a release window. Call of Duty has had new installments debut between late October and mid-November every year since the franchise was launched in 2003.

The retail listing does not provide further information regarding the game, and as of press time, Activision had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

This is far from the first indication that this year's Call of Duty game will be Call of Duty Black Ops 2. Two weeks ago, Amazon France reportedly posted (and then pulled) a listing for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. Later, a contract art studio employee's resume included mention of the game.

Treyarch developed the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, which was set during the Cold War. For more on the original Call of Duty: Black Ops, check out GameSpot's review.

I see contradictions here. If it is to go on sale in November Treyarch would have to model the software to function on the current consoles and the 720 due for release in Christmas. According to blackops2game.com Treyarch posted a vacancy saying '“Treyarch is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer for a position on the team bringing our hugely successful game to a new console.” It's a smart move because it will definitely encourage the sales of the next generation consoles, I for one will support the gaming industry in hopes for an innovative technological improvement. As for BO2 I think I speak for all of us when I say that I will be expecting high spec servers that will officially demonstrate how inadequate the MW3 servers are (don't even get me started). I am optimistic for expansive weapon and character modification! Equipment became a little less personal in MW3 (I said don't get me started!), there was nothing like 'boom headshot'in people with a famas graffitied with a smiley face dot sight and a green horse with a mounted machine gun on the side (however unpractical it may be). I just pray that the sequel isn't over commercialised and under developed.

@supertom221 do you really think any of the activation execs have ever actually played a game before?

I loved and still love playing COD and COD2, MW turned me into an online gaming addict however it has been downhill since then. Yes the MP in black ops is superb however I still believe this one per year policy is affecting game quality, and we have seen a downturn especially in the SP games? I will not be buying another COD title unless it receives very good user reviews. At the end of the day I think you get more fun and value for money slugging it out online playing the original MW!

I have been a CoD fan since the first release in 2003, and bought every CoD game that was on the PC. First of all, I want ranked dedicated servers back. Or get rid of the ranks, so everyone plays on the servers instead of chasing for "prestige" in the lobbies. Second, I do NOT want a Battlefield type game. CoD is supposed to be fast paced. Yes, the very old CoD's had huge maps and vehicles, but not on the scale of Battlefield. Third, I do not care about the engine (graphics do not determine whether a game is good or not). I just want exciting gameplay. Whether Treyarch decides to change it up instead of using the old create-a-class system and killstreak system is up to them. But I would like to see something innovative, yet true to CoD's roots. I am watching Respawn Entertainment very closely to see what they are up to, since they were the ones who left the MoH team to create CoD.

say what you like about the series. had some great moments on black ops. some of the best in fact.

I think its about time they listen to their fanbase. Improve the game engine, graphics, bigger maps and make it 32vs32(optional) on consoles. MAG did it, why can't COD. Consider this one, Activision. They can still earn my respect anytime soon.

While Call of Duty may be a poor series, it IS introducing more people to gaming in the same way a game like Angry Birds does. Some of them may move on to another game, some may become full-fledged gamers. More gamers=more money=better games. I don't know about you, but I like better games.

Well. I don't see me ever buying another COD game unless it's a WWII one that's just as good, preferably better than WaW was. If they make another finest hour.... *shudders* I did play Black Ops, I will admit. It was fun for me and I prestiged once. However, I played mw3 at a friends house and It was really just more of the same.

DUN DUN DUUNNNN Who wasn't expecting this? It's like putting a report of FIFA 13's announcement in the news. Of course it is, it's a yearly series!

I can confirm that a new COD will be released every november till people stop buying them... And I have nothing to do with the games industry what so ever.

Why am I not surprise by this? In a few years, the COD franchise will die, just like Guitar Hero. At the end of day, Activision's short-term profit scheme will be their demise. No question.

People are full of it on here, people running there mouth on here bad mouthing the cod series are the ones that are there at midnight releases, buy all dlc, elite and play 5hrs a day. As repetive as things may seem, people know what to expect, it's not always over the top but it's usually atleast an 8/10.

What they need to do is make a Call of Duty Zombie Apocalypse game, where it's like a realistic military take on if a zombie apocalypse really happened. That would be marginally interesting. The whole gung-ho military thing is wearing thin, the series needs a change of tone.

MW1 - innovative MW2 - much like MW2 Black Ops - much of a muchness after playing MW1 and MW2 MW3 - I didn't even bother buying it Black Ops 2 - wouldn't even consider buying it Activision you have successfully put me off your COD games with your 1 release per year churn em out philosophy.I am constantly amazed how many people (13 million sheep) are willing to shell out money on a regular basis for re-skinned or superficially different versions of MW1. Because of the rapid release schedule there isn't a lot of change being implemented into these games - get off the bandwagon people it is the only way to tell Activision to get more focused on quality and innovation.

"One retailer thinks so" I'd say most people know when CoD will come out.

B-Ops was fun but it got boring very quickly. To be honest, that is how all the CoD series has been since MW2. I haven't bought a CoD game since B-Ops, and I don't plan on it.

It's a bad thing when a company changes very little just to sell a "new" game every year. For a game that I always hear has awesome multiplayer it can't be that great if fans can't bother playing it more than a year that they need to come out with a new one every year. as for those subtle changes, patch them in.

I'm excited. I play Dragon Age, Dark Souls, Mass Effect and other games targeted more toward the "hardcore" crowd if that's what you want to call it, and I can still recognize CoD as a great series, the people who hate take their stake in their industry way too seriously. CoD is advancing the videogame industry not through new game mechanics, but through growing it's general audience and increasing the level of competition. No matter how you spin it, that's never a bad thing.

110 hours on Battlefield 3 Multiplayer...then this article came up... Less than 6 months after the release of MW3 and another game on the line?

i might buy this for my vita when it comes out just because i think it might be cool on that, but then again i already know what to expect gameplay wise.. and knowing activision they will prob charge 50-60 bucks for a freakn handheld game so idk lol but id prefer a ww2 game instead honestly

Gravity_Slave

honestly, is this really ever "news"? They release a new CoD game every year. The only surprise would be if they skipped a year. I love my FPS games, but man am i getting wore out.

@MattJ3R They did, it's called Black Ops. Speaking of, I'll have to come clean and admit that I'm looking forward to Black Ops 2 on account that BO's Multiplayer just felt right after playing the mess of a multiplayer MW2 and 3 are. I know you guys say that COD doesn't change at all each year, but there are some subtle differences in the Multiplayer area that make quite a difference. I could go on about them but it'll end up tl;dr. And Zombies mode, because while MW3 Spec-ops Survival was pretty cool, it's not Zombies mode.

Black Ops was brilliant. Look forward to playing through this...

I kind of wish they would go back in history... Maybe even to the Wild West times. They just need to try something different than a typical Military shooter. And I think they should add co-op Story Missions to the Zombie mode, along with adding some visible wounds when the zombies get shot. I want to shoot them to pieces, not just shoot them until they fall down. It would be cool if the Walking Dead characters make a cameo in one of the zombie missions.

I think you guys are missing the big picture here, if you reserve your copy of Prototype 2 you get an exclusive FLESH CLEAVER!

@Spacerac: totally agree, gamer like this because of the online component so greatly built by now sued West/Sampella (ex founders of Infinity Ward). I have all these games but I purchase them for 20-25 specials because I just don't have the time for the online gaming experience. The campaigns are entertaining but the graphs su*k more every year due to the lack of updating, they have not changed since MW1. They should call this Call of Duty Episodes... it's like a soap opera that continues bit by bit every year.

Ughhhh. I wish they would come out with something new. Although I was not a huge fan of Black OPs, I could at least say that it was something completely different from the same old repetitiveness COD keeps pushing out. Why not bring out something really different?

If they're gonna release Black Ops 2 they better at least include an offline bots mode again, currently there are only a few games that have this option - black ops being one of them... but then stupidly people had to go online to get the bots lol

I enjoy playing CoD. I don't think it's worth the money, but they're fun games to rent and play through the Campaign and return them when finished. If I was going to buy a CoD game I'd wait till it dropped down low in price. After checking on Amazon, the Modern Warfare 2 pack for PS3 is still $60 so it looks like that won't be for quite a while.

actually Black Ops was superior to MW3 at least in my eyes, although it doesnt change the fact that Activision is so blatantly milking the serie.
