Black Mesa, nine others approved under Steam Greenlight

The first wave of games approved on Steam Greenlight include Black Mesa and Cry of Fear.

by

Valve has unveiled the first wave of titles to be granted approval on Steam Greenlight, including the eagerly anticipated Half-Life mod Black Mesa, which is due to launch on September 14.

All 10 games in the first wave of the program will be distributed worldwide and released independently in the coming months.

The first wave of greenlit games has been announced.

Steam Greenlight launched on August 30 this year as a way to increase exposure for games on the Steam platform and lessen the bottleneck for the listing-approval process. Since then, over 700 projects have been submitted to the service, which allows developers to put up Kickstarter-like pitches for favourable ratings from users.

The complete list of titles approved in the first wave of Steam Greenlight is below.

Black Mesa
Cry of Fear
Dream
Heroes & Generals
Kenshi
McPixel
No More Room in Hell
Project Zomboid
Routine
Towns

Black Mesa is out...hell has officially frozen over.  Wait a sec, HL2: Ep3 and HL3 still aren't out yet, never mind.

Very nice initiative from Valve, now let's see EA do something similar on Origin...

They haven't finished Xen yet so it will be playable up to that point. The rest will come out later on but that's still most of the game.

If what I read was correct, over half is done and we will get a nice chunk of what's completed. I know I've been counting it down. Can't wait for the whole thing to be done.

@DarkSaber2k It means you can download and install Black Mesa from Steam instead of downloading it through a website. There are plenty of free games on Steam.

@nick_000000 The original hl is one of my favourite games EVER, and to me everything leading up to 'Unforeseen Consequences' in this remake blew my mind. The amount of detail loaded into the tram ride was amazing in comparison to the original. But after the resonance cascade (with a locked camera and no Xen!?) the differences started to feel a little weird. I think the crowbar feels a little off as does the speed, the way they've tweaked the houndeye's AI feels overly aggressive, and I've got no idea why the barnacles now take 3 hits instead of one? I feel like the new changes are a little too surprising, apart from these minor complaints I'm enjoying it so far, amazed it's being given away for free, it's overall a damn quality remake so-far. But thinking about it now, they've altered too much of what I loved to begin with for me to have as great an appreciation of it.

Nonetheless, a few hours ago it had around 40,000 peers downloading the torrent from about 10 trackers. Insanely popular. Again, where is GS on the coverage of this one, too busy with MOH? Pfft..lol ;)

@theshonen8899 Ah ok, never mind then. I thought Greenlight was for people who wanted to SELL their games on Steam.
