BioWare's first PS4, Xbox One game Dragon Age: Inquisition gets new trailer

New trailer for BioWare's upcoming RPG highlights some of the locations, characters, predators, and prey you'll encounter on your journey.

by

BioWare today released a new trailer for its first-ever Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game, Dragon Age: Inquisition. The 2-minute trailer highlights some of the locations you'll visit when the game launches this year, as well as the predators, prey, and factions you'll encounter along the way.

Dragon Age: Inquisition is also coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC, though it is not clear which version of the game today's trailer most closely resembles. The above screenshot and the video itself is from a pre-alpha version of the game.

"Dragon Age: Inquisition is BioWare's first next-gen game. It's also our most ambitious game to date," BioWare producer Cameron Lee said in a blog post. "Nowhere is this more visible than in the incredible size and diversity of locations, life, and hidden places you’ll discover on your journey."

Lee explained that the people and creatures you'll encounter in Dragon Age: Inquisition are affected by the game's "emergent" system that creates specific scenarios depending on the actions you've taken previously.

"You'll see towns attacked by bandits, deer fleeing from wolves, giants feeding on bears, and countless other scenarios," Lee said.

Dragon Age: Inquisition also features "incredible graphics systems" that can accommodate dynamic weather effects (naturally formed puddles), spider webs that will "blow your mind," and "huge amounts of various materials that look more realistic than anything we've ever created in a BioWare game," Lee said.

Dragon Age: Inquisition launches this fall for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

This trailer looks nice, very nice. Dragon Age is second RPG game in this year which I will be waiting. Two good promising RPG which have release date in this year is: "Dragon Age" and "Lords of the Fallen". For me they looks awesome. Graphics, combat style, story. I want to play this games:)

Gameplay looks great. I can't wait for this have been waiting years. Better to have had it pushed back to late 2014 than have it had released last year. Patience shall pay off for them.

My god, after watching the gameplay I can't wait to play this game!

By the sound of this article, Bioware appears to be learning from past mistakes. They claim to be listening to feedback and implementing it in a positive way, but time shall tell.

Of course, all of this is inane if they cannot find a way to connect the world with the player in a meaningful way. Frankly we all know Bioware's potential to create personalities that make the player feel invested in game progress, but if the world itself serves as nothing but a hollow shell in which these events take place the effort to flesh it out is moot. I have faith in them, though.

Hm, this does look good, not witcher 3 good, but still good. dragon age 2 however is a blight that cannot be erased from my mind and makes me question the gameplay - and in the end that is most important.

I need to see actual gameplay for me to judge it finally. Trailer looks okay, but doesn't show any gameplay.

Hmmm somehow I have an urge to pick up Dragon Age: Origins again...

Looks good, I don't normally pick up games day one, but if they aren't reusing the same old locations (IE DA 2) this will be a day one buy for me. So far things look like something I will love.

I am reading a lot of dumb comments about how DA2 sucked, how ME3 was bad etc etc. And some of these people are ready to openly accept DS2 which looks like a game from the early 2000s. I mean, give me a break ! This game is a BRAND NEW title. How can some of you expect similar failures ? Don't you think the devs would have listened to feedback ??? This is one of the hottest RPGs to come out this year alongside Witcher 3. From whatever I have seen and heard of this game, it's amazing. They have certainly put in a lot of hard work into the world, the characters and game play. As a Dragon Age fan, I have faith. I am loving what I am seeing so far. Can't wait.

Why aren't they showing more characters? The environments look great but I remember seeing some character screens not too long ago and they looked pretty awesome. There was this cool looking "musketeer" type dude reminiscent of Habsburg Spain's "Tercios" which ruled over Renaissance Europe.

I usually prefer Japanese character designs but this Western RPG has me very interested.

I am impressed with the scope and scale of the world the developers were able to produced courtesy of the current new hardware but I fear they focus more on introducing new tech rather than the one thing we desired most, which is gameplay and compelling story lines. If the new Dragon Age delivers that then count me in.

I've never played Dragon Age before, but this looks interesting. I will have to follow this one.

I thoroughly look forward to this game. It looks great and everything they've improved upon because of feedback, for better or worse, looks great.

I realy dont get this trailers , show me some god damn gameplay not some retarded cinematics....

Looking damn good. We need more great Western RPG's. I mean there's what, like 1 for every 20 that come out of Japan? Love my JRPGs, but the ratio is staggering.

Gaaah, I told myself I wouldn't get excited and get my hopes up for this game but this does look really nice and it sort of sounds like they might have learnt from their past mistakes.
God, please don't suck....

As disappointed as I was with DA2, I'm not gonna lie ... I'm going to eat this up. Purely because there are hardly any companies making interactive fiction now (by which I mean choice and consequence, with dialog options).

If this one has the "Awesome Button" and the copy paste dungeons i will definitely pass..... Let's hope its more open and mimics like DA - Origins.

Another game to be held back by the 8th gen weak hardware. Cant wait to hear the devs excuse on why they cant push the game because of X x or X

This gen is going to be all about dev excuses.

played dragon age origins, liked it, played for a while, I distinctly remember investigating some cult and fighting this dragon for about 35-40 mins and then it ate me.  Took the game out put it in its case and haven't touched it since.

I don't get why Dragon Age have such bad graphics. The graphics in this trailer look like some regular 360 or PS3 games. I'm not all about graphics but you should no be so behind every game out there.

@DiamondSlicer  Same here. The way you can sort of capture structures and use resources to unlock things in the area is definitely something new.

@starjay009  As a dragon age fan also, DA2 really did disappoint on multiple aspects. The story, gameplay, and setting.  This one graphically looks miles ahead(although i did like DA:O art style), but the reason people like darksouls 2 is the pure gameplay. I would much rather play a game with good gameplay like darksouls 2 than something like DA2 again. Also the pc release will have 4 times the texture resolution for darksouls 2 and it really doesnt look close to an early 2000s game.

@BradBurns You can create a skinny female character and give her spiky hair, then you pretty much have a Japanese hero.

StaticPenguin
StaticPenguin

@Mercaptan They're not showing you a cinematic. They're showing you in-game locations because people can't forget about Dragon Age 2 and it's 3 locations. If you want gameplay there's a 30 minute video on youtube.

Penguinlord1

@greenknight1490 True, the PC version will likely be the superior version, yet that doesn't mean the console versions will be bad.

@greenknight1490 Why? What makes you think the lot of us "console peasants" give a shit what some snob has to say?

@translucent17  I am sorry but Origins was simply a masterpiece, better than ME in many respects. The game is about skill and strategy. Sorry but it isn't hack n slash. You need to level up your characters with the right skills and abilities. Fighting the dragons was one of the best things ever !! Still, I respect your opinion even though I don't agree with it.

Marsh87

@translucent17  The High Dragon was tough battle...harder than the final boss in my opinion..make sure you get your party build in order.I try to keep one of every type of class. Wynne can be a life saver if you micromanage her correctly. Buy the best armour and weapons you can get,Blood dragon armour,Drake skin(Made by Wade in Denerim)....Make at least 40 health potions with a variation of each type..Lesser,Health,Potent,Extra Potent.Do the same for lyrium potions. The Dragon is weak to ice so use ice damage runes and spells. If you have a two hander in your squad try to get the Yusaris sword from the Circle Tower. Before taking on the dragon head back to camp to restock and then come back. And lastly keep trying the pay-off is huge.

@translucent17so you are the type for who the include "easy" difficulty in games huh? always wanted to meet one of you...how is life being a person who gives up after 1 try and causes developers to water down games so that they more "playable" to general public? you know, the hard-core gamers hate those people as they are what is causing games nowadays to become crappy and watered down, not the devs or publishers, they are just making what the general public demands...

@Aleperez75 Bioware has never really been good at doing console ports. The PC versions are always miles better as far as Dragon Age is concerned.

It's being released for the 360 and PS3, which will essentially (I believe) hold the latest generations versions back A LOT. This game will not be all it could have/can/will be because of that. IMO they should have moved on from 360 and PS3 where this games development is concerned. Likewise for the next Mass Effect.
