BioShock zaps PS3 in October

Take-Two's acclaimed first-person shooter making waves on Sony's platform later this year with "new features and content."

Last week, a spate of cover stories from upcoming print magazines confirmed long-standing rumors that Take-Two and 2K Boston/Australia's dystopian underwater shooter BioShock would nestle on the PlayStation 3. The news was hardly shocking, considering the mounting tsunami of evidence that indicated the game would make it to Sony's platform after having logged impressive sales and critical approbation on the Xbox 360 and PC.

Details on the PlayStation 3 port were next to nonexistent a week ago, and with Take-Two officially announcing the game today, they by and large remain that way. In lieu of hard details, the publisher did say that BioShock will arrive on the PlayStation 3 this October, more than a year after the game's August 2007 debut on the Xbox 360 and PC, and that 2K Marin will be developing the game. 2K Marin is also at work on the game's sequel, BioShock 2, which is expected to arrive during the publisher 2009 fiscal year on unnamed platforms.

As recompense for the extended wait, Take-Two said it would be adding "new features and content" that it hopes will give "the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year." Take-Two promises more information on just how it hopes to accomplish that feat in the near future, beginning with the cover stories hitting newsstands next week.

Can not wait for this port. I wonder if it will include additional content?

I loved this game on the 360, but im not sure i would go through it again unless the extra content really adds to the story. Like all story driven games, it just ain't as good the second time around, all the punches and scares are gone. I agree with TKand PCB, and his comment is valid for movies and music as well.

"If you mean real success, as in good gameplay," a 10 out of 10 means nothing if sales aren't up to par. gaming these days is more of an industry than an art.

Mp5slipknot said This is good and well for PS3 owners but like Oblivion, I think it will enjoy moderate success but still pale in comparison to the 360 and PC sales. If you mean sales-wise then yes. People will already have it on 360 or PC plus the sequel is being released soon. If you mean real success, as in good gameplay, the PS3 version of Oblivion largely overshadowed the 360 version because of KotN and revamped graphics etc. (Don't bother bringing up the review of Oblivion on this website, we all know that Gamespot is bias.) Chances are this will be the same, a port but with time and effort put into it. (Not just "play with the code so it runs on this system") This will be better than the 360 version. (Not the PC version, unless there is KB/M support.)

"lozandier No offense, but some of you are so near-sighted, I'm beginning to believe in America's huge high school drop-out rate" And im beginning to believe the stereotypes of peope from the UK having incrediblly bad breath and teeth. Hopefully you will fall into a puddle of AIDs.

No offense, but some of you are so near-sighted, I'm beginning to believe in America's huge high school drop-out rate; people stereotyping and singling out other fan groups is RIDICOLOUS! What are you guys, 10 year olds? Do not say Xbox 360 Gamers say this or PS3 players say this if they are not even representing a majority. Are you blind that you may be around the wrong folk that HAPPEN to be 360 players or PS3 players? It's especially worse to say because of ONE game that a console library is now better or another. You guys seriously need to reevaluate your principles (like wallywallas) or may consider you guys have too much time in your hands . With that out of the way, this is great for 2k, especially after that whole EA stockmarket mess. I do wonder if the "new features and content" will eventually roll on the 360 as a expansion pack or like Ninja Gaiden did with Ninja Gaiden Black. If they say the new features and content will give "the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year," I'm believing it as a high possiblity and smart business in 2k's part to do so with a price range similar to the Shivering Isles expansion of Oblivion.

Awesome game - best SciFi FPS since HL2. Pick it up PS3 owners. I personally got the PC version, but if I didn't have a PC I'd get it on PS3.

All I know is: one less reason to consider shelling out for the XBox. I was a huge fan of SystemShock and SystemShock 2 back in the day, and I've been dying to play BioShock. Late, my tushy!

darkride66 ... I agree but not totally. Ninja Gaiden Sigma (though highly rated) left me nothing but a craving to play a sequel. As your library grows with Next Gen games, it gets harder and harder to go back no matter how dressed up the product is. HOWEVER, when it comes to Bioshock, I played it for the first time about two months ago on an excellent PC and was THOROUGHLY impressed. It IS an excellent game and a rerelease would be EXCELLENT!!! I hope the sequel will also come to the PS3 in order to keep the momentum going :)

The comments regarding "Forget about BioShock, it's way too late," crack me up. A great game is a great game. Half Life 2 came out in 2004, and the Orange Box came out almost three years later. I'm still playing it now, despite having finished it and the first expansion back on the PC. Good games don't have an expiration date. These comments are ridiculous.

I'm noticing a lot of X360 fanboys crying on how the game isn't worth buying it. Oh, but when it came out they were like: "Oh, this game rocks! Suck on it PS3." Well guess what: Now there is no reason to buy a 360, besides GOW and Fable (Halo sucks, admit it). 2 games, that's it. Even Gaiden is gonna make it on the PS3, you'll see. And PS3? Killzone, LBP, Resistance, Warhawk, Home, MGS4, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Blu-Ray. And now, a 360 flagship Bioshock. Sorry, cant help gloating.

This was a great game and now more people are going to have the chance to experience it. I played it on the 360 but I will buy it for the PS3.

Yeah, I say this is kinda a stupid move for PS3, and Take-Two. Way too late. The news has been released that Bioshock 2 is coming out for both platforms soon, so the smart consumer will rent the original, and wait for number 2.

With Silent Hill Homecoming, Dead Space and Fallout 3 coming out around Bioshock ps3's release... im gonna have to save up.

Sure it'll get some buys and I'm sure it's maybe even better,but.....too late.People are expecting BioShock 2 now. That's going to be on both systems too so I don't see a big reason for a PS3 owner to buy this.Save up for BioShock 2.BioShock is still amazing though so just play it on a friend's 360 if you haven't yet.People don't really pay attention to this from what I see...but ya,GAMES ARE FRIKKIN' 60 BUCKS!!!So ya,try not to waste your money.I'm like spending too much money on games now lol.I bought like 5 this year and that includes Rock Band, which I got for 150 instead of 170 or 180 or whatever, but still....buy games that have good online and last long time, that's why if you're going to buy BioShock right now is not good for the long term term as you could finish the whole thing in a rental or borrow from friend.

Hmm. Yes well, it looks rather promising. But considering the release date, and how long its comming out after the first release; this should have improvements to it - So the "new features and content" better be good, or it definatley won't give "the title the opportunity to once again be named Game of the Year."

bioshock was amazing on 360 lets hope it is just as good on ps3 i never expected it o come on ps3

a new Bioshock sounds cool and so do the extra features but game of the year? thats pushing it a bit. thsi will be cool with the inclusion of trophies (just thinking of one now, its "completed game" and its like one of those snowball things but with a small version of rapture in it, wow now that would be cool)

Boozer11

Hmm well honestly I never thought bioshock was as cool as all the hype out there. Maybe it will be better this time.

I forgot to buy it for my 360 back when it was released but I guess it's gonna pay off. I'm willing to wait another few months for this to rampage on my PS3. Game of the Year is reeeeaaaallllyy stretching it for this year but i'm certain there are hundreds of gamers like me that didn't buy it back then and are willing to get the new and improved system. Will also sell among those who didn';t buy a 360 at all as well.

I don't see why everyone's making a deal of a later release for PS3, it is late in certain aspects and will affect sells for it...But many games have done this, and sold fine, Resident Evil 4 as an example...Not everyone had a GameCube, so then they could get it for RE4, it's just appealing to a larger variety of gamers, cause not everyone has all the consoles.

didn't the same thing happen to MGS sons of liberty with the xbox? same game more content. and i bought it for my xbox. now i'm gonna buy it for my ps3. but it'll probably be cheaper for my 360. now the question is. are the new features worth all that extra money? and oh you guessed it. i'm a cheap gamer. i wait til games are like a year old before i buy them so they're cheaper. lol. i just bought superman returns for like 5 bucks and it wasn't worth the 5 bucks. but i get to fly around as superman. so that's kewl.

I don't mind BioShock coming to the PS3, it's a great game and all but I think Take-Two isn't handling this properly. They're releasing a game that came out a year ago that a lot of people probably already played, and that they're adding content just for the PS3 version. Last, do they really expect BioShock to walk away with Game of the Year again? Come on, it already has that title. Let a game that came out in 2008 have a chance.

*sigh* what's the point at calling everyone else a fanboy and acting like its such a bad thing? No matter how hard yo try to deny, we are ALL fanboys in some way...so i don't think we should be accusing each other of being a "ps3 fanboy who said Bioshock sucked last year". Serious;y, what does that prove, you can offend other fellow gamers?

Hvac0120
Hvac0120

Wow some of you are just plain arrogant. I bought the game for the 360 and loved it. I do not feel a bit ripped off if T2 does not release the new content on Xbox360. The point is to gain additional sales. In order to do that there needs to be an incentive. That incentive is the additional content. Maybe it will come to 360, but it will likely be a couple months after it releases in order for them to lure people to the PS3 version and gain new sales. I don't see why you guys want to complain. It is frustrating that the "fans" are not getting this additional content, but they haven't put out anything official as to whether or not the content would be coming to PC and/or 360. Until they do, don't hold your breathe and also don't go around complaining about something that hasn't been announced. This is how marketing works.

darkride66
darkride66

ps3thabest asked "cant wait what about the sequel?" Although it hasn't been announced, it's the same team working on Bioshock 2 that are working on the PS3 version of Bioshock. Considering Bioshock 2 was listed as coming to "undisclosed consoles" you can pretty much read between the lines here.

darkride66
darkride66

jameston80 "I remember a year ago, all the PS3 fanboys were saying Bioshock sucks the 360 can keep it. " Really? That's some memory you have there. Have a look at old news relating to Bioshock and have a look at the forums. I don't see any PS3 people bashing Bioshock. I see Halo Fanboys bashing Bioshock, but no PS3 fanboys. At any rate, Bioshock was an amazing game and I hope it finds good sales on the PS3. It derserves it.
