BioShock, Wii Sports top BAFTAs

Take-Two's undersea actioner crowned game of the year, but Nintendo's plucky minigame compilation wins most trophies at UK's most prestigious gaming awards.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the winners of its 2007 Video Games Awards at a ceremony in London attended by hundreds of members of the gaming industry. At the Battersea Evolution venue, host Vic Reeves and a throng of minor celebrities including Gareth Gates and Margaret Hodge announced the winners at the illustrious black tie event.

Nintendo's minigame-compilation-turned-cultural-phenomenon Wii Sports cleaned up at the event with a total of six awards, although it didn't manage to score Best Game. That honour went to BioShock, the atmospheric Xbox 360 and PC sci-fi shooter from Take-Two Interactive.

Games released in the UK between October 6, 2006, and December 31, 2007, were eligible for nomination to the awards, but had to be playable by the jury members by September 6 in order to be judged.
