The Binding of Isaac's Afterbirth† expansion will be available on iOS "very soon," according to developer and publisher Nicalis. In an update on the game's Tumblr, studio founder Tyrone Rodriguez said the game has already been approved by Apple and that the team is now "working on getting all the features we want into the game."

Rodriguez continued on to confirm The Binding of Isaac will be a universal app, which means purchasing it once will unlock it for iPhone and iPad. An Apple TV version would "eventually" be available, but Nicalis doesn't have timing on its release. The iOS version will also support iCloud saves, so you'll be able to upload and download progress when moving between devices. Bluetooth controller support will also be included.

Moving on, Rodriguez discussed the PlayStation Vita version and described it as "VERY low priority."

"The optimization involved for acceptable performance is a big deal. The little Vita doesn't like crazy weapon combos," he explained.

The PS4 and Xbox One releases of Afterbirth†, meanwhile, will follow the PC version. "The wait will be less than it was with Afterbirth, but will not be simultaneous with PC," Rodriguez said.

Binding of Isaac was released in 2011 and has developed a passionate following. Since then a number of updates tweaking gameplay have been released. Its most recent expansion was The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth, and Afterbirth† is a new version of this with extra content.

An iOS release of The Binding of Isaac was initially rejected by Apple due to its themes, which are religious and depict violence and abuse towards children. In The Binding of Isaac players control a child who must escape the clutches of his mother, who is out to kill him after the voice of God commands he be sacrificed.

These religious themes have been the subject of much controversy. Nintendo also initially blocked The Binding of Isaac from launching for the 3DS due to its "questionable religious content." It later allowed the game to be released and in 2014, an uncensored version launched on Wii U and 3DS.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth† is expected to launch in 2016.

The Binding of Isaac designer Edmund McMillen has revealed The Legend of Bum-Bo, the next game he's working on along with fellow collaborators James Id and Ridiculon.
