In its first week on sale in Japan, the one-two punch of Pokemon Black and White sold a combined 2.6 million copies. The games sold considerably less in their second week, but still easily topped Media Create's Japanese sales charts for September 20-26 with 828,580 copies sold.

Yakuza's PSP debut pummeled most of the competition but couldn't top Pokemon.

Running a distant but still strong second with 174,213 sold was Sega's first PSP entry in the Yakuza series, Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinshou. The PSP action adventure game focuses on an up-and-coming fighter in the Japanese organized crime scene named Tatsuya Ukyo and features the series' standard mix of combat with assorted minigames like bowling and karaoke.

No other game on the charts even approached the 50,000-sold threshold for the week, with Nintendo's latest minigame collection Wii Party landing in third place with 43,077 sold. A number of familiar titles showed staying power on the chart, with Capcom's Monster Hunter spin-off MonHun Nikki taking fifth place with 18,652 sold and Square Enix's Front Mission Evolved holding onto seventh place with 14,339 sold.

On the hardware charts, the DSi continued to ride the Pokemon wave, coming in first for the second straight week with 49,411 units sold. However, the PSP overtook the DSi LL (known as the DSi XL in the West) for second place with 37,576 sold; Nintendo's supersized portable slipped to third with 32,777 sold. The PS3 was the best-selling console overall, with its 20,694 systems sold putting it fourth on the hardware charts, ahead of the Wii and its 16,908 sold.
