The future is now! Well, at least it will be later this week. Electronic Arts and Digital Illusions CE (EA's newest internal studio) have announced that the demo for Battlefield 2142 is coming to GameSpot.

Beginning at 9 a.m. PDT on Friday, GameSpot readers will be able to download the PC game's first demo before it hits stores on October 17.

The demo includes the Sidi Power Plant map and two playable factions--the European Union and the Pan-Asian Coalition. There will also be two playable game modes, including the classic conquest mode and the new titan mode, which sees combatants attempting to take out their opponent's massive flying warship.

Battlefield 2142 is set more than a century in the future, after an unexpected ice age renders most of Earth uninhabitable. The surviving population battles over the remaining land that can sustain life with high-tech mechs and other futuristic weaponry.

Battlefield 2142 will retail for $49.99. For more information, head over to the demo's promotional page.
