Bethesda on Making Nintendo NX Games: "It's Definitely Something We Will Look At"

"We talk to Nintendo all the time."

With Nintendo's NX console scheduled to come out early next year, fans might be wondering what kind of third-party support they can expect. Now, Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer Bethesda has come forward to say it would release games for NX if it makes sense, but it's too soon to confirm anything.

"We talk to Nintendo all the time--we're pretty well briefed in on what they are doing," Bethesda marketing executive Pete Hines told Finder.com.au (via Nintendo Everything). "It's definitely something we will look at; and our philosophy is that we will put our games out on any format that supports the games as we envisage and make them.

"If the NX fits that from a technical standpoint, and fits the game that a developer in our stable is making, I don't see why we would not put it out on NX," he added. "But it's too early to say, 'We'll definitely be putting games out or not.' Like with mobile, we want to have the right fit for the right formats."

Bethesda did not release any games for Wii U. In a 2013 interview, Hines said Nintendo did not reach out to third-party developers soon enough, which made supporting the system difficult, according to Gamasutra. Bethesda has already been briefed on NX, so things seem different this time around.

The NX, which is only a codename, is scheduled to arrive in March 2017. Just recently, a report stated the NX will be at least partially portable and use cartridges. Much of this tracks with what we've previously heard about the system.

Another report claimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as new Mario and Pokemon games, will come to NX within six months of the system's launch.
