Bethesda gets Wet - Retail Radar

Amazon, GameFly, CD Universe all list Fallout firm as the new publisher for abandoned Sierra action game.

by

One of the last remaining orphans of the Activision-Vivendi merger may have finally found a home. Product pages for Wet on GameFly, CD Universe, and Amazon (under the Frequently Bought Together section) are currently listing Fallout 3 publisher Bethesda Softworks as the game's manufacturer.

Are the background dragons really necessary?

While the three retailers agree on a publisher, they are less convinced of the game's release date. Amazon has the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions of Wet arriving on August 31, while CD Universe projects a September 16 launch. GameFly expects both versions of the game to be a little slower on their way to shelves, with a September 30 release listed.

Developed by Montreal, Canada-based A2M, Wet was originally announced for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 back in 2007. The action game follows the tale of a young, lethal mercenary named Rubi as she sets out on a quest for revenge and wealth after having been wronged by a mysterious man who hired her. Described as "Kill Bill meets Tomb Raider meets Prince of Persia" in GameSpot's first look, Wet features over-the-top third-person shooter action that combines acrobatic movements with fast-paced shoot-outs and sword fights.

As of press time, a Bethesda Softworks representative had not returned GameSpot's request for comment.

Please note that while retailer listings frequently jump the gun on publishers' product announcements, they should not be taken as final confirmation of a game's existence, nor should the absence of a listing be considered as proof that a game isn't coming to a given platform.

I first heard of this back in the Call of Duty 4 GI preview issue. Seems good for a rental, but time will tell if its more... most likely not though.

Looks like a typical 'weekend thriller' that you'll want to wait for a price drop for. Good pedigree behind it, though, so who knows.

Wolfie600 and thenephariouson (and anybody else that I missed), Sierra is NOT making this game. Sierra is owned by Vivendi, who merged with Activision earlier this year. During the merger, there were several games (Ghostbusters, Brutal Legend, the aforementioned WET and a few others) that were left homeless by the merger. It even states in the article that a A2M, a developer out of Canada, is developing the game.

i dont no though DPhunkT i kinda think bethesda might work there magic. but if bethesda just publish wet with out doing any fixing of the game if they just let A2M do there work then i agree it wont be a hit. Here is hoping that bethesda works there magical hands and makes wet a great game

Even though its Bethesda we all know and love, I don't think this game will be a hit. Especially if the concept was created by Sierra. It already seems so restrictive and linear.

This game looks like a fun Max Payne style shooter, but it does not look $60 worthy.

I thought this game was billed as the female version of Max Payne either way Id still like to see the finished product and be a judge of that myself. Good luck getting published WET.

Not really interested, this year is looking to be a slump year in gaming. I'll probably wait until next year to buy some decent titles. I think this year I'll stick to the mainstream and pick up some games to just keep myself occupied.

Meh, this game does nothing for me. Maybe a rent. I was really hopingh for Elder Scrolls 5 however, though that will probably be a next-gen game.

"Product pages for Wet on GameFly, CD Universe, and Amazon (under the Frequently Bought Together section) are currently listing Fallout 3 publisher Bethesda Softworks as the game's manufacturer." No, Bethesda is either: a) being used as a temp holder, b) listed incorrectly as the publisher by all three retailers, or c) being mentioned in confusion as the sole publisher. My bet's on B.

also even though this game looks a lot like laura croft i imagine there must be something really special about this game if bethesda is willing to do this. the last several tombraider games were only ok. i don't see why bethesda would want to copy a somewhat aging game icon unless they had something up their sleeve.

Bethesda is really careful on the games they publish. That alone tells me that this game is going to be good!

Looks really good. I miss having good 3rd person acrobatic shooters. Lara is awesome as always, but this might be a good addition, especially combat wise.

People are acting like their are an abundance of 3rd person action/shooter games currently coming out. Personally, it'll be nice to take a breather from the constant waves of 1st person shooters (not that I don't enjoy those as well). But you never know, maybe this will be what's been missing since the old tomb raiders.

Has many similar visual similarities to fallout 3.

Like thenephariouson said - they are the publisher, not the developer.

Hopefully Bethesda can shape this into something truly special.... because at the moment it just seems like 'another' flashy 3rd person shooter.

@Brad2theBone237, Dont forget, Bethesda are simply 'Publishing' this game, Sierra are actually making it.

Extremely detailed environment, good graphics...sounds like bethesda On the other hand lame story line, not a large variety of fighting....doesnt sound like them at all

The only reason I am watching this game is because it's being published by Bethesda, and I am very very curious as to how they will do with a full-fledged action game..

I doubt this game will be good but who knows. It reminds me of death by degrees and that game I heard did terrible.

I kept this title on my Gamefly queue because I remained hopeful that it would come out, and when I saw the September release date, I got excited. I hope it turns out well; the video doesn't look too shabby. It's my kind of game with my kind of lead character.

How can you describe this game as either great or horrible when we know next to nothing about it? It will all come to light when it is released and not before.

Greengaidin, i can fully understand if you are getting a little tired of this "styilized-action crap"; but when the whole game centers around fluid (hence Wet), over the top action, i gotta ask...what do you expect? This isnt suppsed to be a Splinter Cell game. It would be like walking into the next Transformers movie and being shocked that Michael Bay is having things explode.

WarPrime

Too often games that have promise just vanish and are never heard from again. I thought this was going to be one of them so I'm hopeful that it will be good!

Wow. That trailer makes the game look HORRIBLE. Seriously, when are videogames going to get over the stylized-action crap that makes anyone over 18 shake their heads and chuckle?

Hpefully this game will be good, otherwise it will wreck Bethesda's perfect record! :( Just joking...

@ sportfuryman: Even if Bethesda is publishing the game, that does not necessarily mean they have had anything to do with the content of the game itself. They are just publishing it, not MAKING it. Understand the difference.

"Bethesda gets Wet?" That title brought disturbing imagery to my mind.
