Bethesda 'disappointed' over Skyrim DLC absence on PS3

Developer insists development on newly announced Hearthfire DLC for latest Elder Scrolls game has not caused delay of Dawnguard add-on for PS3.

The Dawnguard expansion for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came to the Xbox 360 in June and the PC earlier this month, but it has yet to be released for the PlayStation 3, despite elapsing its one-month Microsoft exclusivity. Addressing its absence on Twitter recently, Bethesda marketing manager Pete Hines insisted development on the game's just announced Hearthfire DLC is not the reason Dawnguard has yet to come to the PS3.

Dawnguard still doesn't have a release date for the PS3.

"We are working on multiple projects, even beyond [Dawnguard and Hearthfire]," Hines said. "The entire team doesn't work on one thing at a time." He added, "We're disappointed too, but we're keeping at it."

Dawnguard is the first expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. GameSpot's review of the content found the expansion to be an atmospheric and enjoyable return to the frigid lands of Skyrim. For more on the content, check out GameSpot's review and walkthrough of Dawnguard.

According to everyone sony is difficult to develop for Console been out for some time now and it still is problem if ur game lags on all platforms and you cant make it work on platform you have less experience at Its consoles fault. You got uncharted god of war running flawlessly on pa3 but here comes bethesda and all of the sudden ps3 cant run games. Why cant you develop for sony individually with their assistance when u were making game? Bethesda is like a child- its too hard we wont do it. There isnt unsolvable problems just unpleasant solutions.

There's something behind the scenes preventing this content from being released on the PS3 that we're not being told or probably will never know about.  This is absurd!!

Not sure why Bethesda is the only developer incapable of developing on the PS3.

So glad I didn't get a PS3, although its specs look impressive on paper, some devs say its a nightmare to program for. Bioware games are always more buggy on PS3 and Bethesda games are always a nightmare on PS3 and since those are 2 of my fave companies that would be an issue for me.

I platinum'd Skyrim in under 280 hours on PS3, and it played great the whole time. RDR and GTAIV ran worse than Skyrim by far. If that was the case for everyone, PS3 would have Dawnguard by now. But with all the hate and backlash they received from fans and media, some true and most false, they are probably saying to themselves screw the PS3 and their whiny fans xD

I love my PS3 but thats how I see it.

yeah not having to waiit for dlc would be nice, but I guess i could live with it considering the variety of exclusives that the ps3 has.  not saying the 360 exclusives are bad just saying they aren't my cup of tea (or bag of tea as tommy t would say lol)

Finally console owners feel the pain of PC owners, delayed game launches, eg Assassin's Creed, or the game not being ported properly, eg GTA IV

Ahhh i'm a PS3 gamer but I've just come to live with the fact that Bethesda is Microsoft's lap dog.

So far the DLC offers no interest anyway.. vampires ain't my thing and neither is building my own house!  Once something truly invigorating comes along i'll take notice.

It's just all about the monies.

Thank the PS3's shoddy ram for the issues.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the team is already working on the concept and maybe even extremely early versions of The Elder Scrolls 6. I remember in an interview a long time ago and I'm not sure if it was Todd Howard who said it but almost immediately after the release of Morrowind some of the team worked on DLC, other projects and of course Oblivion. After Oblivion was released they said the exact same thing some members worked on DLC, others on other projects like fall out 3 and others began working on Skyrim

Why is Bethesda the only company that has trouble with the PS3?  One would think a company would know how to program on Sony's system 5 years into it's life cycle.

I honestly thought Dawnguard was out for the PS3. Hasn't that been out for a couple of months already? I think Bethesda got a little rattled with the Skyrim/PS3 debacle, and they are being very, very, careful before releasing anything else on the PS3. With that, I never had any abnormal problems with Skyrim on my PS3. None more than Fallout 3, which pretty much were random crashes being the main problem that everyone else has to deal with for these games(360 included).

So what about this new DLC as well? Should we wait until next year then? I love SKYRIM.Love it! But I want to keep loving it... please give us PS3'ers the DLC.

Its not even out on PC so why is everyone bashing Sony hardware again, im waiting till the complete packed is released next year like I did with Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, sorted.

Who the hell gives a shit about DLC stuff anyway?Just wait for a GOTY edition or don't buy it at all

 Bollocks!, this about their lack of capable development on Ps3 and their lacky engine on Ps3..

Ps3 gamers are totally screwed and robbed from their money on this game..

Its very unlikely that Ps3 gamers arent going to buy any game from bethesda..

sknight175216

 @Hamza141 Ooh wee. GTA IV is a great game, but so badly optimized it's not even funny. Actually I feel like all Rockstar's PC games are bad ports. Not bad games at all, but just run terribly.

 @electro57 This is just a throw, so don't read it as the only possibility, but Bethesda makes quite huge games in terms of how big the areas are and how much freeroaming there is to do if you compare to most developers these days.“It’s an engine-level issue with how the save game data is stored off as bit flag differences compared to the placed instances in the main .esm + DLC .esms. As the game modifies any placed instance of an object, those changes are stored off into what is essentially another .esm. When you load the save game, you’re loading all of those differences into resident memory,” he revealed." and since PS3 uses divided-memory pool, it kinda has issues with this method.PS3 has 256MB of XDR and 256MB of GDDR3, had they gone like X360 and just had 512MB of GDDR3 these issues wouldn't be so critical - but it'd affect how PS3's CBE would work.

 @tightwad34 i agree , they shouldnt have released skyrim on ps3 at all, first they pissed off with a broken game, and now they continue to piss off with ignoring their ps3 customers dlc needs , not even speaking about how fallout3 and new vegas are still broken on ps3 and never will be fixed

 @King9999 Some of the team are probably working on The Elder Scrolls 6 while others work on DLC and other projects like new Fall Out games and all. That's what they did after they released Morrowind, FallOut 3 and Oblivion a few years ago

 @chuymemo

 Old ain't nothing when it's an instant classic. Heck, I still play GTA from time to time and I'm sure I'm not alone. Actually I still have an Atari, plus many other console generations, all with games that get played now and then. Classic is classic, man.

 @elderdrake A friend of mine was a game tester on Saints Row. He was telling me about the differences and I can confirm that they had similar issues working on that.

I don't really know a whole lot about the technical side of testing because I only took design classes but it seems like they could better prepare for Playstation testing going in somehow. The industry knows where problems occur in PS code, so it just seems they'd learn from it.

 @AmnesiaHaze  @tightwad34 It's not as easy to fix as it sounds like. Fallout 3 is a lot less broken now than how it was in 2008-2009 to say the least.

 @CruiserCaptain

You really gotta take very good care of your consoles in order for an almost 30 year system to still work. I wish I still had all my old consoles and games.

King9999

 @TAGGER_SK8ER101  @burning260 No, but there will likely be a Skyrim GOTY edition or some kind of all-in-one pack.  They've done it for Oblivion and Morrowind, and I think the earlier games too.

elderdrake
elderdrake

 @imrobish I agree, you think devs would adapt to the idiosyncrasies of Sony's SDK but it is crazy to think that Sony made it hard to develop for on purpose. It only serves to hurt the gamer in the end and I am sure gremlins galore spring up causing new bugs with every development of a game. Bethesda is not a new kid on the block and well established. Something as complex as Skyrim I am sure must be a headache to adapt to run efficiently on a system designed to be hard to do just that on. I feel for the PS3 users though (I have a gaming pc, 360, and ps3 but the ps3 is just a paper weight now for me).

 @maxrang  @Godendag  @DeanoFantasy I think he's talking about Game of The year Edition, originally that was my plan to, to wait for a year to get all the content in a single purchase but the wait was impossible for me I wanted to play it so badly I still remember the agony of waiting as 11-11-11 slowly arrives

@King9999 @TAGGER_SK8ER101 @burning260 Ohhhh! Let me think. I already have GOTY but guess what?? There is no DLC content! My thoughts are Bethesda is working on either TES-6 or Fallout 4, but still wth?!

 @squallgunblade7  @elderdrake  @imrobish

Sony does have indie games, its called PSN mini. As far as i can tell both console has the same performance, only that PS3 requires more work to develop for.

squallgunblade7
squallgunblade7

 @elderdrake  @imrobish their is plenty of good reasons your ignoring why it is hard to develop for.

Sony doesn't want some half baked game on the network like those crappy Indy games Microsoft have Sony doesn't just want any to be able to develop a half bake game and think they are going to make a profit, and the hardware has far more potential than the Xbox when developers figure out how it works their will be amazing games still coming out for it when the next gen consoles are out, they make their consoles to last unlike the other systems
