To commemorate the launch of MTV Games and Harmonix's The Beatles: Rock Band, Microsoft announced yesterday a special-edition console bearing the Fab Four's likeness. Not exactly a retail offering, the limited-edition console is available through Internet auction site eBay, with proceeds from the sale going to benefit Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization.

With eight days before the auction is set to expire, the Beatles-branded Xbox 360 has already accrued more than 80 bids and is currently commanding a $7,000 offer--some $6,700 more than the MSRP. Microsoft did not indicate how may Beatles consoles would be made available, saying only that a limited quantity would be auctioned off for charity in the lead-up to the holiday season.

As previously announced, Microsoft will also be donating its proceeds from The Beatles: Rock Band's first downloadable track, "All You Need Is Love." The track, which is available as a timed-exclusive to Xbox 360 owners beginning today, can be purchased for MSP 160 ($2).

shooters on pc maybe good but console shooters don't suck at all.shooters fit right at home on the console just as much as pc.

xtremeflem2day, All consoles suck for shooters. Try playing a shooter game on PC, and you'll be amazed

Music games have been played out. I'm sick of hearing about Guitar Hero and Rock Band - we've had dozens of them, with nothing new ever added except different songs and plastic chunks to play with. It's turned into the next Madden - publishers keep milking it, since customers don't care that nothing's changing. It's disgusting.

I just sent a question to the seller asking if the console does get the RRoD if they can guarantee no damage to the artwork during repair. Kinda interested to see the response.

Why cant we all just be gamers here instead of console fanboys? Leave the console wars between sony, nintendo, and microsoft, it makes em offer better and better deals. Xbox 360 has halo 3 and GOW, PS3 has MGS4 and KZ2, Wii is not good for shooters but has some great cartoon games like Super smash and mario galaxy, why not all get along?

@ wkociol and TheDarkSpot Your posts have both me sad and caused me to lose a little more faith in humanity.

CyberAltair5, wrong. Kaz even said it himself in a recent interview (this past month) and said that the ps3 hasn't yet brought in a profit.

@Wingman1977 This isn't 2007 but 2009. PS3 makes profit for Sony these days.

I agree with wkociol. I prefer Drowning Pool, Dope, Adema...best music ever made

supermike6, you're wrong. MS makes a profit off every 360 sold. Nintendo does as well (they always do). Sony still takes a loss on every ps3 sold (even with the slim they still are taking a loss according to a recent interview with Kaz Harai on here or IGN (I can't remember which site of the two it was on).

A Rock Band with one of the greatest (if not THE) bands of all-time... Makes me think if I give it a shot for the first time and possibly ONLY to this kind of games (Guitar Hero/Rock Band)...

Like it or not, I just don't agree that this band should be in rhytm game like gh or rb. We shall check if it sells well.

@wkociol Are you serious? Who listens to the Beatles? Does such an asinine question even deserved to be answered? Pump your breaks kid, and stop listening to the backstreet boys already.

Whoever listens to The Beatles this days? This game is nothing but a big mistake. Might be fun for karaoke.

Wait, Microsoft is also donating ALL of its proceeds from the downloadable track? That's great, we need more of these gaming companies donating time and efforts to such things. Good for them

I was going to make an RROD joke but someone beat me to it. I'm sure whoever buys this is just going to put it in some sort of glass case or on a pedestal.

At least microsoft is doing something to help others, good for microsoft.

@Strategygamer22 That would cost them waaaay to much money. You should be happy they're at least doing this. They already lose money on every system.

I respect MS for this, but wouldn't it be better if a portion of any system or game sold went to charity, not just limited to an overpriced system with awesome artwork?

lol MS is trying to build a good reputation through the use of helping people through charity.....not a bad idea....but then again their just doing it cuz they know that we will think them as "better" people, hence a nice plan......for a corporate company that is, so if you think about it, they make millions from selling hardware and software anyways, so it's probably just a big plus to their reputation, that you guys are happily contributing to
