Bayonetta 2 producer bemoans "pedantic port-begging"

"We heard you. We get it."

Bayonetta 2's producer has acknowledged fan requests for the Wii U game to see a multiplatform release, but he has a message for you: We've heard you, now stop asking.

"I hate posting anything Bayonetta 2 on our Facebook. Not because I hate Bayonetta 2, but because I hate the pedantic port-begging," Platinum Games creative producer JP Kellams said on Twitter recently.

"It's been over a year since we announced. We heard you. We get it," he added. "We are just happy that we get to make Bayonetta 2 for the patient fans."

Bayonetta 2 will be published by Nintendo. It will be up to Nintendo to decide if the game ever comes to other platforms, Kellams said. "They are the publisher. They make that call," he said.

The game launches in 2014 only on Wii U. Unlike the original game, which also saw release on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Bayonetta 2 will feature a two-player mode.

Nintendo is the reason they're able to make the game. Just imagine there is no WiiU. Now Bayonetta 2 doesn't exist at all. Or worse, it's a Wii exclusive. I don't have the WiiU, but I'll get one for this if I haven't gotten one already by then. That's what I do. I buy systems I wouldn't otherwise need, for a game I really want. Why else would I own and X1 other than because I'm a huge KI fan? If it wasn't for that game, I wouldn't own one yet. Every system I ever owned was purchased because of an exclusive. Why else would you bother? It's not an expensive system now and may cost even less. So if you start saving your allowance now, you'll have more than enough to buy one by time this comes out!

...whatever, it is what it is. People don't care, I sure as hell don't either. I want to play this game pretty bad but no way in hell I'll pick up a wiiU exclusively for just that game, and seeing as how badly the wiiU is doing at the moment, that is pretty much what it would amount to.

All I can do is facepalm and laugh at people saying they bought a PS1 just for FF7 and actually comparing that situation with this. I mean, that is exactly the same thing, right? WiiU I'm sure will be just as successful as PS1 and Bayonetta 2 carries about the same hype and excitement as FF7. Yeeeeah, that sounds about right.

Welcome to the internet age, Mr. JP Kellams; where every upset person can directly contact and annoy the **** outta you. I'm not saying those people don't have a reason to complain. They may be passionate fans with nothing but hopeful intentions. Problem is, ALL of 'em have access to you. All of 'em.

It's safe to say many of them will be ignorant. They don't know the difference between publisher and developer. They don't know anything about the business aspect of creating video games. Heck, they probably don't know how games are even made. All they know is, they don't have the WiiU and they want Bayonetta 2, so they're going to complain.

The only solution good sir is, and I say this with the utmost respect, to deal with it.

I get what he is saying and I can understand some of his frustration. The fact that he nowhere in the article said "we appreciate the demand, but it's Nintendo's call" makes me think. The same people that are pedantic are the ones that supported the first game. The majority of so called "patient" fans probably don't even own a Wii U and are now expected to buy one in order to continue the adventure. I honestly think with my feelings put aside that this will not sell well on Wii U. They sold moderately well in a multi-platform release and now they are are tied down to one console. We have seen in the news Wii-U is missed there expected console sales by this point of their fiscal year. The fact that PS4 and Xbox 1 are now live is only going to hurt them more. It's sad to say but I think this will be the end of Bayo....... :(

I never played the first one (I was during an only PC emo phase), so... Isn't this just a DMC with boobs?

The first Bayonetta had a cult following but never had good enough sales to green light a second title. Nintendo stepped in and said "If you make it...we will pay." Since Nintendo's money is the reason Bayonetta 2 is being made at all it is extremely unlikely that this game will go multi-platform. The good news for gamers w/o a Wii U is that if it sells well enough Bayonetta 3, if it ever exists, will likely show up on other platforms. Otherwise just pickup a Wii U to play it. It truly is a good console even if the graphics could never compete with the PS4 or Xbox One.

How much exactly did Nintendo finance Platinum to make this game?

jark888

Nintendo make that call, yeah. Then we all know that the game won't go anywhere. Nintendo is the one started all of these exclusivity bullshits before others followed suit.

I don't think fans are mad because B2 is a Wii u exclusive, not in the simple 'Wii u sucks' way. They're mad because it's an exclusive AFTER the first game, which all the fans played and loved on ANOTHER system. Nobody would have cared that much if this was a new series. Making it exclusive after getting fans hooked across multible platforms is just...eh.

I know that it can't be helped because for some reason the project was dropped and only Wii u picked it up, but I can still be sad about it. I'll watch a playthrough of it when it comes out, but it won't be the same :/.

Bayonetta in this version is wearing too many clothes.  In the first game her clothes were made of hear hair which was linked to her powers.  In this version it looks like Nintendo was afraid to make her too 'sexy' and covered her up too much.  As a consequence I do not see this as a true sequel to the first one.

blankdisk5
blankdisk5

Imagine Bayonetta is Game of Thrones, and season one is on TV, while season two is exclusively on 3D TV, and there's no possible way to transfer it to regular TV, and the producers say, "Go buy a 3D TV or stuff it."  That's what you call a D**k Move, I don't care who's paying for what.

Just another thing to show that gamers are obnoxious and entitled.  Should be glad the game is friggin coming out.  I am.

The game will bomb anyways so who cares about a port?

I think almost everyone can think of one game that they bought a system for. I bought a PS1 for Final Fantasy 7. I also bought a N64 for Ocarina of Tiime. If you love a game or a franchise enough you'll buy the system to play it. If not then maybe you didn't like the franchise as much as you thought you did.

When the hell is this thing coming out on the Vic 20?

I'm sure a side of those complainers are grateful that regardless, this game is being made. Hell, if I loved the 1st game as much as my long DMC fan friend (I like it, but long scenes that lack substance put me off easily), I'll be grateful anyway, and wait for some metroid games to roll out to make the purchase of the Wii U productive.

Gamer logic:

- Complains about the Wii U not having any games or third party support.

- Now that there's a game they want from a third party developer, they want it on other platforms.

@l0ne_wanderer  Says the port begger a.k.a. cheap bastard.  If you want to play Bayonetta 2, buy yourself a Wii U.  It's that easy.  Not to mention bringing support to both the company and the franchise.

Elem187

The end of Bayo was after the first one. Sega didn't think it sold enough to warrant a sequel. It would have been dead right there, but Nintendo stepped in and saved it. So because of Nintendo's generosity we will have a sequel.... Fans of the series need to get over it and either buy the console to play it or move on.

@RevLuxActually when the Dolphin Emulator starts supporting WiiU, the graphics will be like on the PC, well at least crystal clear and instant loading.

@zenstrata you can relax. If you look at some of the gameplay videos you'll see plenty of her doing moves where she is pretty much fully nude.

@blankdisk5 No its more like the tv show 'Inside the NFL' It used to be on HBO and you got to watch it with the HBO package. But now its on the Showtime Channel and you need their package to watch it.

@Jedilink109 WTF are you talking about? Nintendo never even had the first game and now it's exclusive to them. The people who originally bought the game on XBOX 360 or PS3 were left out in the cold. Yeah it's really a sense of entitlement that you want to continue supporting them and buying their games. What is obnoxious is that you have to buy another system to even play it.

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@bunchanumbers

Plus once you buy the system, you now have access to all the games on it so why not explore? The 360 was the first console I ever purchased myself and although I'm not too big on Western games, I did find a great deal of games I had a lot of fun with, most of which I never bothered to look at prior to owning a 360.

@J_Dangerously Tomorrow, and every other version will be ported from that, and yet somehow people will still say it's better on the PS4 and Xbone. Lol.

@Elem187 Exactly.  I thought we were past all this nonsense.  "Ewww.. a Nintendo console?  Eww!"

Who knows?  You just might like it...

These people are usually the ones who see nothing wrong with buying a new copy of Call of Duty every 13 months.

Princess_Rectum
Princess_Rectum

@xXxIRyanxXx Yeah I'm sure Nintendo felt all the people that bought the original were children.  Good call.  Usually the ones that try to play the "LOL NINTENDO IS KIDDIE!!!1one" turn out to be children themselves.

Wait.  Not usually, always.

You guys had your chance to see a multi-platform release. And you blew it.

@BlackDiamond81 @Jedilink109  So??? Same fucking story for Final Fantasy, now look at them....suddenly this rise of "fans", I assume they're calling themselves because they're are acting VERY petty and entitled, popping up out of the wood work saying they want it for PS3/360....So who's fault is that? The "fans" who didn't poor money into this franchise to Green lit a sequel? Or somehow Nintendo? The people who went "Fuck it, We'll fund that shit" because this would NEVER.....NEVER exist if it wasn't for them, Didn't see Sega, MS, Sony, nor EA jump for this.

So basically, If your a fan of Bayonetta, you'd get over it and buy the game, cause once again, it's gonna be the "Fans" fault for it not selling so well, especially on the Wii u because they're being petty little cry babies that CANNOT understand "WE CAN'T MAKE IT MULTIPLATFORM"/

bunchanumbers

@abHS4L88 @bunchanumbers yes. With the PS1 I also ended up loving Parasite Eve, Klonoa, CTR, Grandia, and games like MGS, Medal of Honor, and Legend of Dragoon.

On N64 I ended up loving Mischief Makers, Paper Mario, Snowboard Kids, and all those WCW wrestling games. And of course all of the Nintendo first party games. We still play the Mario Party games to this day.

bunchanumbers
bunchanumbers

@k41m @rockstar_88 Same thing happened with Rayman Legends. Ubisoft caved and their reward was next to no sales on ps3/360 and Wii U ended having the most sales.

GammaRed

Bought my wii u last year for this game. It's been collecting dust since then. So some of us fans are supporting it even at the cost of nearly $500. I am just glad I will get to play it.

nl_skipper

@bunchanumbers @abHS4L88   Heck yea,  I bought a PS3 many years after its release just for MGS4...  to me it was pretty much worth the expensive for that one game, but there was nothing stopping me from trying out other PS3 games after I owned the system... and there are a lot of awesome exclusives I've enjoyed.  I imagine same would go for a WiiU if you're that desperate to play this game... for me though I'm more inclined to buy a WiiU for Mario...

canuckbiker
canuckbiker

I would like to see proof of this statement. I'm sure the wii u had the most sales, because there's not a lot of games for it and why not buy a great game like Rayman legends, but I imagine it did well on ps3, xbox360, and vita as well.
