Already known on the Nintendo 64 and the PlayStation, BattleTanx is a shooting series that takes place in a postapocalyptic future. A virus has spread throughout the world, and 99 percent of the female population has been eradicated. Governments have gathered up the remaining women around the world and hidden them in a secret location. A global war soon follows, which leads to the collapse of all the world's governments. As a result of the collapse, militia-type groups are formed to claim ownership of lands. Some groups are called Gangs, and they aren't too friendly to those who are not of their own kind. Other groups are called Tribes, and they base their society on peace.
With the apocalypse over, the few remaining women around the world are known as QueenLords. They are both the rulers of new militia groups and the focus of jealousy. Their followers guard them without fear of losing their lives. You, as BattleLord Griffin Spade, form a Tribe and set out on a journey to rescue QueenLords from Gangs.
In the game, you take control of three BattleTanx assault vehicles - the quick Mototank, the powerful M1A1 Abrams, and the heavily armored Goliath - to obliterate your opponents. Eight power-ups can be picked up, and you can use them to make your tank stronger as you eliminate your enemies and destroy buildings, streetlights, and other objects. The power-ups available include bounce shots, swarmer missiles, three-way shots, ultraspeed, and nuclear weapons. You battle your way through 15 levels spanning five US cities - Washington DC, San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. The graphics in the game use a top-down view much like Grand Theft Auto's (though Combat on the Atari 2600 definitely comes to mind). Expect to see the game on shelves this April.
