Blizzard Entertainment's Battle.net service suffered a DDoS attack on April 13, impacting servers for all of the developer's big games, including World of Warcraft, Diablo III, and StarCraft II. Writing in the Battle.net forums, a support representative confirmed the attack, but said things should be back to normal.

"It looks like we experienced a potential DDoS on one of our datacenters," the statement said. "Initial impact appears to have ended and our engineers put up some buffers to resolve the issue, and realms should start recovering. We're continuing to monitor and work on mitigating the impact.

"Apologies for the inconvenience, and we'll be sure to provide updates as they continue to come in."

As alluded to in the statement, it sounds like service is being restored not all at once, but slowly. If Battle.net remains down for you, keep checking back, as it should come back online soon.

The noted hacking group Lizard Squad has claimed responsibility for the attack, with some believing it was done in retaliation for Blizzard's cease and desist order against a popular pirate WoW server.

The DDoS attack against Battle.net was severe, leaving all games unplayable in the United States and Europe for a period of time before service was restored, according to IGN.

Battle.net is not alone when it comes to being attacked in this way. Both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network were brought down on Christmas Day 2014 through a DDoS attack, which essentially floods servers with requests beyond what the networks can handle.
