Battlefield studio seeking anti-cheat security expert

Swedish developer DICE hiring security expert to help company "secure the online experience" of its games.

Battlefield developer DICE is taking up arms against cheating in its games. The studio has created a new position dedicated entirely to implementing and managing anti-cheat measures for its present and future titles.

Cheaters, beware. DICE is hunting you.

The company is now seeking an anti-cheat administrator to join the company at its office in Stockholm, Sweden. According to the requisition description, the person chosen for the job will work to "secure the online experience" for DICE games.

Additionally, this person will be tasked with keeping track of player behavior data in DICE's titles in an effort to keep its game's leaderboards "filled with fair play."

DICE has publicly expressed contempt for cheaters within its games before. Earlier this month the developer said it was ramping up its anti-cheat measures within Battlefield 3, encouraging players to report any instances of misconduct they encounter.

I have not played BF3 on the PC in ages, the cheating is silly and ruins the game. Punkbuster seems to be useless and DICE seemingly take no action. Client side hit detection has a lot to answer for.

It's really frustrating that that something isn't being done about cheaters, glitches, bugs, balance issues etc. At least MW3 has regular updates to it.

I must admit .... that EA has reacted late to the cheating problem, but none the less a good step. Also something to keep in mind for future releases

I have experienced no such thing. Or maybe I never noticed?

unlike bf2 and other games i couldnt take the amount of cheating, and made me do what i always do, single player gaming, sadly im with the others in the fact that it came to late.

I stopped playing back in november when skyrim came out, but when i returned in december i started seeing hackers more often; so i took another break. I decided to hold off till the feb patch and its just getting worse. Ive been a long time BF fan since bf2, but they need to get there act together, the modern warfare series lost my faith after cod4 with mw2 with all the multiplayer hacks/bugs/exploits people were using; and IW slow response. I understand the hackers will never be beaten, but you can make it harder to them to exist and weed out the common low lvl annoying hacks which can still ruin a match for everyone. At least DICE is trying to fix this. I hope in a month or so preogress is made.

It's a nice gesture on Dices part, but a bit late. I stopped playing awhile ago because of all the b.s. that I encountered. Which is a shame, because it was a fun game (Multi-player, that is.). If there's a future post stating Dice has really clamped down on the cheaters and/or the methods they use, I might start the game back up. But until then...............?

All people complaining about shotguns stop running into cqc situations with assault rifles and not expect people to blow you away with a shotgun.

I still don't understand what made DICE choose Punkbuster for BF3. Ever since my first bout with it in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, EVERY single game that comes with it has it kick legit users and is stupidly easy to circumvent if you're actually cheating. When you get killed by a guy in a plane flying in the opposite direction, then notice the whole server getting dropped by one dude, I think it's time to switch anti-cheat systems as well lol

i stop buying cod games because of what happened to mw2...if you dont do something about it mw2 is the perfect example of what can happen....i might take a look at bf3....nobody that plays fair likes to be cheated and when you pay over 60 bucks for a game and add ons you shouldnt have to deal with it... so i hope this works out.

THIS is the way to run and support a successful online shooter. R* took similar measures during the Red Dead spike for online play. I really must voice how much I am enjoying the support Dice have made an effort to apply to their customers. This is a nice clear indication that - following BF3's release - this game will continue to be developed and provided for. All this tells me it that we're in for quite a year by way of incentives to keep fighting on the current (and forthcoming) maps. Good stuff Dice.glad I got involved.

does using mouse with autoaim ability considered cheating?

@Soothsayer42 I understand they want realism but at some point they really need balance realism with competitive balance to make the game fun. Real life combat isnt fun and this is a game after all. Besides like you mention BF and COD are arcade shooters there are plenty of non realistic things about them and frag rounds not being one shot kills needs to be one of those things.

Soothsayer42
Soothsayer42

@Gen007 since they want to make the game 'realistic' about the game physics, since Shotguns actually do have range. But for arcade shooters like BF and COD, they need to fix the whole thing up.

Gen007
Gen007

@Soothsayer42 Yeah frag rounds have ruined the game for me as of late. Every match thats all you see is multiple people spamming that crap. They hit you once? your dead they completely miss you? your dead. Does it have have better range than most assault rifles? hells yes. Does splash damage cause them to kill themselves at least? No. That crap needs a major nerfing asap. I just don't get why devs have such a hard time making shotguns reasonable in games. COD, Gears, and now BF3 have all had shotgun issues. Only game where the shotgun isnt OP is Halo.

What's the point of cheating??? It just shows that you can't play.

Good step, DICE. I bought Battlefield 3 a while back, enjoyed its single player quickly, and started to love its multiplayer, but after just 2 weeks of multiplayer I couldn't take it anymore because there were several instances of confirmed, blatant use of aimbot software, and countless instances where I was not sure whether that particular person in the game is a very smart cheater or just a really good player...so yeah, eventually I gave up on the whole thing. And frankly, I made a decision to think ten times in the future before spending money on a mainly multiplayer FPS in the future. I don't think I'll ever buy an FPS multiplayer again unless I read confirmed reports and forum testimonies that cheating is rare if at all. I do hope that your step improves the game, because as I said, I totally quit your game a while back because of repetitive cheating.

I used to not care about cheaters, being a PC gamer. I mean, they never really completely ruined games, I bumped into many over the years but it was always just a few. But then one day this year I picked up my old copy of CoD4 and put it into my dusty Xbox 360. And what I found shocked me. The cheating completely ruined the game. As a guy who played a lot of Battlefield 2 back in the day, I hope that DICE can prevent BF3 from becoming a hack-fest. Cheating hurts multiplayer gameplay.

Why do they cheat? ....it's a game , do you win something by cheating in a game seriously?.......

bit late i rarely play this any more, i totally love it but the amount of hacking that's going on makes it near impossible for a good old fashioned gamer who wants to compete on a level playing field

I wish they had done this prior to launch. The cheating is getting way out of hand. If you don't believe me check out the leaderboard and the forums.

I'm really happy that Dice is doing this. I hate it when cheaters invade games. What is the point of spending so much money for a game if you're not going to play it properly? As far as I'm concerned, having a ridiculous or unfair advantage over other players would make the game boring because it won't feel competitive.

@beast70 it has been a long time since i played it on my 360 but for the first 2 months i only ran into 1 that i knew for sure was cheating. And PC is really not has bad with cheaters has everyone says but BF3 is horrible everyones got rage kill they press 1 button and everyone drops dead.

plus imagine how much a security worker for them would get paid an hour i'd leave the U.S. in an instant. convert my money give family hugs & handshakes (only my mom & grandma a kiss) and take the next 1st class flight and then build a pillow fort like peter griffen

the onlything about companies like these are desperate for help but when have better experience than their present workers they dont want to hire leaving them open for example: DICE open to cheaters for all these years.

I refuse to ever cheat online. It is just not right. It takes away the fun of the game and also makes others mad.

ZOD777

WHAT!??? This wasn't an existing position already?!!? And it will consist of ONE person!!?? No wonder PC games have so many hackers these days. Having only one person monitor suspicious activity (all platforms, and all Dice games) is like having only one policeman for the entire Los Angeles area. Good luck with that. What a joke.

A quick look at the global leaderboards is all it takes to figure out the worst offenders (booster/hackers). There is no way you can get a legitimate gold eagle 99, >50/1 KDR, >10K spm with less than 3 days of game time. Why is it taking so long to do something?

everyone that plays on-line games always looks for a way to cheat ! i'm the only one who knows how to play w/o that edge , i just shoot everyone so theres no witnesses left behind !

Pyrosa

Perhaps they should start with something simpler, like reliable squad formation (on the same team, same squad after every game starts) with people on your friends list? Hey DICE, an honest tip: Study Gears3. Epic absolutely NAILED IT with simple, fast, reliable party formation that carries across matches, game modes, etc.

@holtrocks I dissagree I have played pc for over 12 years give or take and played xbox and PS3 for around like 4 yars because I did't have the money to buy a new pc and the xbox has by far has the most hackers and cheaters..... remember the MW3 infinite ammo bug and the hacked lobbies and the 100,000,000 kids that found a hole in the map in cod WAW. I rarely run into cheaters on pc though obviously it does happen.

Why do people cheat? I find an odd question.... because they want to feel superior, dont want to develop the skill, can't stand fair competition or just enjoy being jerks and greifing other players. I do enjoy the battefield series and haven't noticed too much obvious cheating (last I played was 2142). I have however been sniped through buildings etc so it does happen. Those sort of things really discourage other players and likely hurt the games fanbase so it is in their interest to try and minimize it.

I will never understand the mentality of cheaters. Why cheat? why cause bother for other players? why hack? why do it? what is so fun about it? I don't know i really dont, the game is awesome without the use of cheats. Why do people insist on cheating by using guns that snipe instantly everyone? It sucks cos alot of games i go in atleast have 1 cheater and no admins online

Clockout1

Oh ffs. I didn't buy Battlefield 3 because I couldn't play Bad Company because it would not let me play on my laptop whatsoever. When the anti-cheating measures become so extreme that they kick normal players, something is wrong.

haha this one game, I was killed by someone who I was unable to damage, who seemed to be invincible. I messaged him to ask if he was cheating, and his response was "dude I didn't do anything, suddenly I was dead but alive for some reason." lol
