Battlefield 4 Second Assault DLC remakes four BF3 maps

DICE details its second DLC pack for Battlefield 4.

by

DICE has released details of its second premium DLC pack for Battlefield 4, which will launch later in the year for current and next-generation platforms.

The Second Assault DLC, which was announced at Microsoft's E3 2013 press conference, will feature four "fan-favourite" Battlefield 3 maps redesigned for Battlefield 4's Frostbite 3 engine. DICE also says the quartet of maps will be "enhanced to include new multiplayer features from Battlefield 4."

No more specifics about the content were revealed. In a Reddit thread, Battlefield 4 gameplay designer Alan Kertz said "[Operation] Metro and Caspian [Border] are runaway favorites" in popularity.

Battlefield 3 received a similar expansion in December 2011, Back to Karkand, which remade four famous Battlefield 2 maps--Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, Wake Island 2014, and Sharqi Peninsula--in the Frostbite 2.0 engine. The Back to Karkand DLC was offered free to customers who preordered Battlefield 3.

Customers who preorder Battlefield 4 get free access to the China Rising expansion pack at launch, which adds four new maps, new vehicles, and new equipment.

Battlefield 4 DLC will be released first on the Xbox One.

Didn't they announce this a while back? What's the point of this article if they're not telling which 4 maps.

So the games not even out, and we get DLC announcements. On top of that they aren't even NEW maps but they are expecting you to pay for exactly the same maps you already bought for Battlefield 3?

At least they are telling you that they are reselling you the same febrezed up assets a head of time. DLC  is just a way to milk consumers and it really sucks. I just don't see why they waste time with the single player when they should just make it a stand alone multi-player game since most, if not all DLC is for multi-player.  Hell, I had COD4 for about 2 years before I touched the single player campaign. And that's only because my internet dropped.

Is this real? They've already announced TWO DLC packs at this point? Screw this game.

BF4 + China Rising is enough for me.

I don't care about the others

I'd be willing to buy Second assault for $20, as long as China Rising were ACTUALLY INCLUDED IN THE RELEASE GAME, instead of day-1 DLC. -.-

Man forget Caspian Border! Metro I can deal with, but it needs to be expanded to the entire rush map, where we can fight both outside (in front of the metro, up in the small city ontop of the metro, and on the other RU side) as well as the same stretch of underground metro.

And don't forget Azadi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Seine Crossing & Strike at Karkand!

Game isn't even in Beta and it already has 2 DLCs for 15 dollars a piece.

I hate the fucker who thought "Hey, why don't we make our customers pay for DLC's?" Since they came up with this bullshit nearly every "blockbuster" game has paid DLC's, season packs and shit you must pay if you want to fully experience the game. I realize things change over the course of time, but the way things changed in the gaming industry just makes me and my wallet sad.

Really have no interest in playing slightly updated BF3 maps.  I'd rather they brought in maps where the Levolution would pay off, such as Kubra Dam, Operation Road Rage or Dragon Valley... then redid Karkand with ALL the bases from the original.

If they've reworked the water and weather system, then update Oman and Wake Island with better water combat and bring in a giant version of Zetar Wetlands or Operation Clean Sweep.

Please don't give us more Metro!  Caspian maybe, but not METRO!!

BAHAHAHAH metro again!? YES, WE GET TO PLAY A TERRIBLE MAP AGAIN! When I say we I don't mean me because I will never buy another Battlefield game unless they go back to WW2. Sorry but I've paid for Wake Island approximately 4 times now, not to mention Karkand and others. BF1942, BF1943, had to buy a new copy because I lost my CD key for 1942, and then BF3. No more BF, ever, not even for Bad Co. 3

Good old EA, making us pay for the same maps more than once to get the full experience.

(sigh)  Unless this is free (I know, funny, right?), this is just plain sad.  It's probably best to wait a few months for the super duper version of the game with all the DLC included for a decent price.  I'm sure to find other games to keep my interest until them.

Butcher_ss

They'll just overhype everything again like they always do to get people excited and they will go ahead and change the content AFTER everyone has pre-ordered or already got premium, just like they did with BF3. They will just do the same thing all over again since there are people who will still buy the game. BF3 is not fixed yet and 7 months after the last dlc they will release a new game.

There will still be glitches, bugs, cheaters, they will lie to the customers like they did in the past but there will be a 4 next to BF instead of a 3. And for those people who think that they are not working on any DLC you couldn't be more wrong. The developers work on 20 maps, release the 10 as standard and the rest as DLC. And then they go ahead and design some more but it's very common knowledge that most developers will remove some content if they are planning on releasing DLC. All the DLCs are NOT created after the release.

TheDrunkenBunny
TheDrunkenBunny

Perfect! I love spending my money on dlc-s! I hope they are gonna make lots of dlc-s for bf4 each just with one map because i think 4 is too many (but for the same price ofc cause i love filling ea's wallet). Really great times have come for us gamers!

I've read a majority of the comments to see how a lot of you feel and I am finally ready to express my thoughts! YOU ARE ALL STUPID! Lol Nah I kid, I think that's how a lot of people with opposing views react though right? Well I see the point of a lot of people here, but I also disagree with a few of those. For one, a lot of you seem to believe the alternative here is that DICE just release these maps as whole package on disc when game launches, but that is not a realistic alternative, the most likely scenario is Dice cuts work on these maps and just releases the same maps they plan to release with no additional content. Which is probably an amazing outcome for some of you anti-DLC people but its not so great for people who will enjoy the game and might want this DLC so who does it really hurt? This is probably hypocritical of me though since I've complained about DLC myself before, most recently ACIV DLC. But one of these BF4 DLC's is free (Not so Greedy is it?) and most likely will not release right away, Karkand didn't! So they're probably not working on these maps so much right now, I doubt they're putting off work on the core game to do this like a lot of you suspect. I'm sure BF4 will release with a good chunk of maps and content for people to enjoy the game without getting the DLC and I mean lets face it, BF3 disc maps are the best and most played maps, the DLC wasn't that great so the core game was perfectly viable without DLC and that'll probably be same case with BF4. One of these DLCs you will get for free, other is just old maps you can choose not to get if you didn't like those maps. Which I do want cause I love BF3! But I'm not a fanboy trying to defend DICE here, I actually don't like DICE, I felt BC2 was a pile of crap and I didn't like Mirrors Edge. I only got BF3 cause I have a game addiction and buy most big titles. I ended up liking it despite it being made by DICE (mostly because I'm the type of person who can accept that something is good and not be fueled by my blind contempt). But this is just my legitimate opinion I'm expressing and I understand your opinions, DLC has become quite a burden on the industry and it's even harder to accept with such short windows between sequels, I mean look at COD DLC, you buy it when a entire new game is on it's way, last DLC probably only several months away LOL but hey if people got money to waste on something they'll enjoy I'm not gonna call them an idiot for it. Anyway, my point is I understand both sides and I see all the merits, in this case ill just have to go with o.o oh well, that's life! I'll get getting my free DLC and maybe 2nd DLC depending on maps chosen ! LOL

BraollusBeBack
BraollusBeBack

Funny, but won't this DLC be pretty much the same like it was on BF3, what I mean is it's not like they are remaking old game maps to be used with new systems, from what I gathered the game hasn't changed THAT much on multiplayer, so it's not much of a bargain

Too bad that you're all pretty clueless on how things work. You might be a bit less harsh on the devs.

DICE working on DLC maps instead of multiplayer improvements or standard multiplayer maps...

DICE get your priorities straight or you won't get an initial sale from me let alone a chance to flog your DLC

Don't worry! I sure if you are a blind consumer or a complete dumbass you can buy the "SEASON PASS" now and get the game and all the DLC you have yet to see for only 120$+  "Twice the Price for Half the Game! YEAH!"

As long as BF4 includes BIG and LOUD instructions on how to use the SPOT BUTTON for those who NEVER use it, I'm in!!!

Here we go again...
It's not even out and they are marketing their DLC...
It's not really "add-on" or DLC really, just parts of the game left out to get more cash...
And "remaking" maps from a previous game...
I used to love BF...
But just F it instead... I'm done with it.

Death_Masta187

sigh. just release the full fucking game before trying to sell me the DLC. I guess Ill wait for the xmas sale on amazon to get this one. to bad consoles wont see this price drop for them that fast as well. this game will be worth the $20 I get it for.

Lol....it will be the same thing Activi$ion did with that Nuke Town map from MW2 in Black Ops 2...it will look exactly the same...no difference.

Why don't the continue to work on the game itself and include new things instead of working on maps that were on the previous battlefield. Some money grubbing shit right there I can't stand when companies do this because they are forcing their fans to pay full price for half a game and then nickle and dime you later down the road instead of giving us the full experience. Fuck you EA.

FireKing25
FireKing25

@DarkSaber2k In Halo, there were always remake of maps in the new games, and people didn't complain about purchasing the maps provided in the previous game; the company made the map, gamers loved it, the company built a great MP map and focused on making money out of it. The Point is don't buy it, or STFU and buy it, cause in the end your going to want to play on the remake anyways.

Gle4se
Gle4se

@DarkSaber2k this is  good. At least its not like bf3, you bought premium and 4 dlc's without even knowing what they were.
I still wanted them to give a premium edition on launch, but then I already pre-ordered.

Gle4se
Gle4se

@Sarg1010 I bought BF4+china rising for more 2$ than the game without the DLC. 2$ for a dlc, ehk, why not?

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@LS-Chaos Your argument is fine but do you realize we've paid for the same maps over and over and over and over again?

Battlefield 1942 had free maps (outside of expansion packs obviously). Wake Island is a BF1942 map. They have re-released it 3 or 4 times at this point, all for more than the entire BF1942 game costs now (a much better game).

We're done paying for the same bullshit over and over when the game itself is broken. How about a functional game before releasing 75 dollars of DLC?

Wawas20
Wawas20

@BraollusBeBack no it is a fair bit different. for one destruction will be upped, different weapons, different vehicles there ven talking of changing the map so its not as stuffed as in metro stuffed

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@danielcliment Or autospotting if you reticule over an enemy. The spot mechanic in BF3 works fine but it also is extra and unnecessary effort.

LS-Chaos
LS-Chaos

Maybe they haven't made it yet? Maybe it's just planned development. They announced all BF3's DLC at the exact same time and it still took them almost a year to release it all. Not many devs have also just revamped old maps and put them in initial purchase of games I actually only know of one (GoW3), old map DLC seems to be a pretty common thing and I don't think it's worth a delay just to get it in game, I'm sure it will already launch with enough NEW maps for people to enjoy.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@Navardo95 The various Wake Island redesigns actually look different, just like Sharqi and Karkand and some other maps. That doesn't justify them..frankly Wake Island in BF3 is the worst map ever.

thorn3000
thorn3000

@Navardo95 wait, COD in itself is always the same recycled crap as it comes out every year, BF at least waited for 2 years...

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@KriptoTitan Why don't they make a functional game first. How about some fucking hit detection that WORKS. How about a netcode that WORKS. Playing BF3 online is an absolute waste of time and money because unless you play exclusively on your own server or with  your clan  or on LAN, you will ALWAYS play against people with 180 or 300 ms pings who will escape from impossible situations on sheer account of lag and bad hit detection. Even on good local servers.

CruiserCaptain
CruiserCaptain

@KriptoTitan I just don't get how they can't just freakin make it part of the game. Is it "DLC" if you are making it at the same time, but plan to release it later and make gamers pay for the same crap?

LS-Chaos
LS-Chaos

Personally I think of you've played a series so much you should quit getting them, what I did for COD. Black Ops 2 was my last one! And I only got that for Zombies. Barely touched MP. Sometimes a series just burns out.

I haven't played a lot of BF however I guess that's why my opinion isn't as harsh. bF3 is my first legit BF because I didn't like the others. And BF4 will be my 2nd.

Which game is broken? BF3? I've not experienced anything broken there, play often on PS3, can't speak for other platforms but all seems well. Unless of course you mean the nurfs that made weapons and other things completely useless then yeah I agree, Dice is pretty asinine, or maybe Spawn Trapping? I think it's BS but I've gotten so used to it LOL I've always felt they should have multiple openings make for easier escapes, maybe not on PC lool or open up secondary spawn point when spawn trapped.

Colonel 100's? Sometimes just seems like they cheat, my clan leader is a C100 and sometimes I'm just thinking of how much BS it is when he is like 70/1.

But yeah, I understand that, I wouldn't pay for same maps multiple times, maybe once in a sequel but when something is burned out its burned out. And annual releases just rush that. So tired of some of these sequels, mostly AC! Because AC3's writing was atrocious !!

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@Wawas20 @BraollusBeBack That's not different. Different vehicles and weapons don't make it different, those are a simple matter - vehicles especially - of drag and drop different crap onto the same map in the map designer.

Grenadeh
Grenadeh

@LS-Chaos BF3 is insanely broken. The hit detect, even in optimal situations with the lowest pings possible, does not work. Even when it does work, you have people getting hit in the face with a .50 cal round the size of their femur and not dying, or hit with a tank shell, or canister, or hit in the face with a rocket. You have endless grenade spam, completely unreliable 1-hit knife kills that have to be at the perfect angle every time and pressed at the right time due to lag; glitched revives that don't work if a player model has any equipment (like a ammo box) on their corpose, the list goes on and on.

That's not even addressing the truly fucked weapons like the training wheels (AK74/M16), or MK3, or how stupid of a concept lens reflection is even on maps where there is no light like Tehran Highway or Metro or Damavand, or how flashlights blind the bejesus out of you. If I can say one thing for BF4 footage so far, at least the flashlights aren't binary stars.
