Battlefield 4's "buy-everything" DLC costs $50

"Ultimate Shortcut Bundle" available to purchase today; includes all class and weapon upgrades.

by

If you're just getting into Battlefield 4 today and you don't want to slog through the process of unlocking and upgrading your weapons and classes, DICE has a solution for you.

This week the developer launched an assortment of "shortcut" bundles for the game, including an "Ultimate Shortcut Bundle" that includes every class and weapon upgrade for $50.

This is not a change of form for DICE and publisher Electronic Arts, as various shortcut bundles were also offered for Battlefield 3.

Below is a list of every Battlefield 4 shortcut bundle available today. The weapon-specific shortcut kits include all upgrades (but not those included with DLC), while the class-specific bundles contain all upgrades and specializations related to the class.

The bundles are available to purchase from within the Battlefield 4 in-game store on consoles and PC.

  • Battlefield 4 DMR Shortcut Kit - $5
  • Battlefield 4 Air Vehicle Shortcut Kit - $10
  • Battlefield Recon Shortcut Kit - $7
  • Battlefield 4 Grenade Shortcut Kit - $5
  • Battlefield 4 Support Shortcut Kit - $7
  • Battlefield 4 Soldier Shortcut Bundle - $25
  • Battlefield 4 Vehicle Shortcut Bundle - $20
  • Battlefield 4 Ultimate Shortcut Bundle - $50
  • Battlefield 4 Assault Shortcut Kit - $7
  • Battlefield 4 Ground & Sea Vehicle Shortcut Kit - $15
  • Battlefield 4 Handgun Shortcut Kit - $5
  • Battlefield 4 Engineer Shortcut Kit - $7
  • Battlefield 4 Shotgun Shortcut Kit - $5
  • Battlefield 4 Carbine Shortcut Kit - $5
  • Battlefield 4 Weapon Shortcut Bundle - $15

EA is so sneaky with their Battlefield microtransactions, had no idea EA was selling BF4 cheats until just now. Although after BC2 and BF3, I knew it was coming. I suppose the one good thing about it, compared to monetizing progression as soon as the game's out, is that it impacts the player base less. Before people can pay to win, normal players get X months to climb the grindtree, which the monetization has likely made into a more tedious hassle.

Wish unlock systems would just go away. It's especially shit in a game like Battlefield.

I particularly won't be buying the next Battlefield for the first X weeks. But Battlefield is my jam. It's the only MP FPS I've been able to really care about for the past decade. So seeing this bullshit infecting it is pretty sad. But I'll still be playing it. Any other game and I'd drop it.

So whats worse?  Spending more time on a game that's broken or more money on a game that's broken?  That's basically the situation here.

... Really missing the days of UT/Q3A where, by some miracle, you were actually given access to EVERYTHING immediately after installing the game.

Having fun was actually based around playing the game (with/against friends), not getting a "pat on the back" and a star stuck to your forehead.

I understand this "unlock pack" but not agreeing with the price, this whole "game must reward me for playing" culture needs to die off.

I see all the complaining but I like this idea. I have a full time 50 hour a week job, I go to school for my master's another 20 hours a week and I am married with a kid.... Sorry I don't have large amounts of every single day to unlock everything but I still want to go online and have all the cool stuff everyone else has. It would take me YEARS to get where most get within a few weeks. I'll most likely buy this.

fyi this is only available on consoles right now

Is this a joke?

In similar news....I really enjoyed bashing DICE on the email survey I received today.  BF4 is a broken game.

i mean jeez, what the hell is the point of playing and enjoying the level up process if you're going to buy everything? these shortcuts are extremely obnoxious. catering to lazy gamers.

I hate this. I hate this. I HATE this. I love battlefield 4, but i HATE this. Its cheap and annoying. And people are so single-minded and impacient, that many will buy this. Sickens me.

Wow, how many times are EA and Dice going to double and triple dip their consumers for cash? I guess as many times as people are gullible enough. Just play the game.

Companies wouldn't do shit like this if people didn't buy it. Anyways, this is more for the casual players that can't play 24/7 but want to be competitive or have the same access their friends have.

I bought BF4 when it released on the XB1 and had all those problems. I haven't touched it since.

They need to be called the Short bus kits because you must ride the short bus if you can't unlock that stuff on your own. Like everyone else had to.

Pre-ordered BF4 back in the day. Was a big mistake.

Anytime I see developers put artificial barriers into their games that you can then pay for to have removed, that's where I draw the line. I won't be buying any more games from them.

As bad as companies like EA are, WE are the ones responsible for developers getting away with pure greed. WE are the ones throwing good money away on garbage we ALREADY paid for. If we simply STOPPED being desperate infants, these companies would stop ripping us off.

If you REALLY want to be mad at someone, look in the MIRROR.

If this came with the new maps DLC I would consider it, but BF4 is pretty much a train wreck.

DICE says it "should be slapped" for Battlefield 3 unlock system

Creative director Lars Gustavsson said DICE shipped Battlefield 3 with "probably the worst setups ever," and that Battlefield 4 won't make the same mistake.

by Martin Gaston on October 4, 2013 . That was a title from Gamespot news . The main reason why BF can't beat COD , second reason , renting servers.

PAY ANOTHER 50 DOLLARS ON TOP OF YOUR 120 DOLLARS! SO YOU CAN PLAY THE GAME WITHOUT HAVING TO PLAY THE GAME!

BRATTLEFAILD!

Fuck EA.

So $60 for the game, and then $50 for the full game.

EA magic at work again.

How about a shortcut that makes the fvkn game actually work?

The only one worth getting is the air kit, considering it's impossible due to there being too many joystick guys who do nothing in life but use jets/choppers in Battlefield.

Pay to win then... Excellent work EA.

This is why I don't trust them with Titanfall for PS4, and am hence not even remotely excited for the sequel.

That's just plain lazy. Play the damn game and you'll unlock everything on your own. I got to rank 110 and still had about 50 XP boosts even though I kept using them as often as I can. Of course I unlocked everything along the way too and had fun... except when the glitches and broken hit detection reared their ugly heads.

@Kalifornia  Meh... You've got a point but I enjoyed the game its the grind that drives me insane!!

I can not and will not understand how people want to go through that, its boring, repetitive and not anywhere close to the word fun!

I miss games like CoD2 where the weapons were there from the start, I'm not saying we need to get rid of all unlocks but I certainly am saying that reaching the next level should be FUN not boring and grinding is not fun at all and not in anyway suitable for a FPS game... its a FPS game for crying out loud I hate CoD4 for setting the trend on this one they ruined the FPS genre.

Daemoroth
Daemoroth

@mill419  And not to mention, play OTHER games too... I still don't have everything for any single tree (Tank/Jet/Assault/Support/etc) for BF3.

Wish gamers would realise how stupid having this kind of mentality of "it's not fun unless the game rewards me" is. Gaming and the game itself should be fun, you shouldn't have to be given a star on your forehead to have fun.

Daemoroth
Daemoroth

@bishop60  Not necessarily, don't forget that all this "unlocking" BS is a "new" thing. Unreal Tournament/Q3 Arena never had any "unlocks" and people played (play) and enjoyed these games immensely.

I'm more saddened by the current crop of gamers who demand that there be some carrot on a stick otherwise they can't have fun.

vackillers
vackillers

@Vodoo Yep I didn't buy it on day 1 but i did get it on black friday for 30$. Not touched it since christmas. As with BF3 I still feel the same way about this shit, its a piss take and yet just simply another way to really milk the franchise dry for as much money as possible. Don't feel DICE should be doing this on any of their games in my opinion, the standard weapons are sometimes better then the ones you unlock anyway.

razor_rj
razor_rj

@Earthbound_X i dont have 24h to play bf4, it takes FOREVER to unlock weapons, at least in bf3 it was easier, better yet with 2 maps used for griding, in bf4 i barely unlock anything for a weapon, and only got 3 new wepons

grenadehh
grenadehh

@Thanatos2k  No it's 60 dollars for the demo with just the vanilla maps, 120 dollars total for the full game including all DLC, plus 50 dollars if you want to unlock all the shit without actually earning it. 170 dollars or 120, your choice.

I already spent 90 dollars on this game and I think I'm going to kill myself. My clan peer pressured me into doing it, again, when I explicitly stated I will NEVER buy Premium for this game.

You do realise the grind is the reason to play, you want to unlock the next weapon and upgrade you want to unlock kit for the vehicles etc this is a reward for skilful play and unlocking something on any game creates excitement, if you was given everything from the get go theres no reward for playing.

I personally love the feeling of getting sniped by a level 4 sniper using a cslr4 and telling myself right your getting it and whipping out the srr61. Its that "look how much bigger my gun is than yours" moment. Personally i think its very well balanced, a level 100 should be whipping me with advanced weaponry hes 50 levels higher than me and deserves to be kicking my ass. The game is excellent, plenty to unlock and plenty of reason to keep going, just imagine how awesome it would be if it worked properly :/

McNeelyJ39
McNeelyJ39

@grenadehh  so this is why it takes so long to unlock things.  Battlefield 4 was meant to be a Free to Play Experience...but they added a price tag to it.  Oh EA, you are crazy!
