  • Fix for friendly marker not always showing when needed to, resulting in players shooting team members
  • Fixed a bug where the M1 Abrams Coaxial HMG ammo box was occasionally blocking the driver’s camera
  • Increased damage by 25% for the Stealth Jet 20mm cannons
  • Stealth Jets now have more similar handling attributes to eachother. F35 & J-20 are slightly more agile, Su-50 is less agile
  • Attack Jets now have more similar handling attributes to each other, and all 3 are now slightly less agile than earlier
  • Fixed camera glitch when switching weapons while moving in crouch
  • Fixed an occasional bug where players could experience intermittent engine sound dropouts when driving wheeled IFVs

No Xbox patches have been announced for this month.

The original story appears below:

Battlefield 4 developer DICE today launched a new update for the PC version of the game that addresses stability and balance issues, graphical glitches, and repair speeds, the studio announced today on Battleog.

In addition to general stability improvements, the Battlefield 4 patch fixes a bug where players' rank icons would not be updated and increases damage by 25 percent of Stealth Jet 20mm cannons. Check out the full patch notes below.

Today's patch for Battlefield 4 does not mark the end of problems for the PC version of the game or other iterations. The Top Issues Tracker still shows that players continue to face a number of problems, including sudden frame rate drops and disappearing hit markers, among other issues.

January 13, 2013 Battlefield 4 patch notes:

  • Fixed a bug where players’ rank icons on the scoreboard would not be updated
  • Fix for Asian users unable to start Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 on Windows 8.1

  • Fix for friendly marker not always showing when needed to, resulting in players shooting team members
  • Fixed a bug where a M1 Abrams Coaxial HMG ammo box was occasionally blocking the driver’s camera
  • Increased damage by 25% for the Stealth Jet 20mm cannons.
  • Stealth Jets now have more similar handling attributes to each other. F35 & J-20 are slightly more agile, Su-50 is less agile.

I dont care, i have ARMA 3, im enjoying it way better. Even if its ust making ghost recon /rainbow 6 style missions. Its awesome.

Bohemia should do a multiplayer mod but carve their huge 255 KM map up into 20 small chunk maps and hit the competitive multiplayer market. Id play that way more than BF if it was there. The movement, gameplay i prefer massively over BF. If only it had a huge competitve multiplayer mode.

Also im enjoying red Orchestra 2 better also.

No patch for the Xbox One? It needs one.

As in, like, every single time?

I would really like to know if EA forced an early release to compete with COD. What was Dices release date, and how far was it pushed up to release with COD.

People spawning under the map? In a full release game? That is alpha quality bugs.

That's right, dudes, this is the future of gaming and it's becoming more and more frequent. Paying full price (even more if you count a few maps and some guns that you might never get to use) for a game in beta state or in "early alpha". Oh right, you're so special for paying and getting to play a buggy game before release! Maybe you're going to play that game more after its official release, but you're not, are you? You're going to get bored with it just like a dog gets bored with his chew toy and buries it under dirt, forgetting where he left it. We're f**king paying to test broken games now and that's okay? I thought testers get paid for that job. This is how frikin stupid some gamers are. BF4 is nothing more than a beta test for BF5 and it's so frikin clear, as BF3 was the alpha of BF4. The funniest s**t is that they're getting worse with every installment. So yeah, keep paying in advance, folks, I'll buy the final product if it's ever going to come out. Meanwhile, I'll play some good games.

I'm sorry but I expected something like that would happen when they announced BF4. And,frankly, people praised BF3 for what it didn't have. BF3 was an "enjoyable" game, but it just had too many issues (even after all of the patches,) so when they announced BF4, I said that I will wait and see how it will turn out, if they fixed the issues BF3 had I would buy it, and if not I just won't buy it, and I haven't bought it, and it seems that I'll never do.

The thing that had me LOLing the hardest was when it was reported that one of the producers of the game had showed up on twitter sometime the beginning of January, and said "Hi guys.  I've been on vacation PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE TIME THE GAME'S BEEN RELEASED.  How has it been?"  :o

That's the attitude of a man making MILLIONS, it's coming in a timely fashion (first Tuesday of November), and with minimal work.  Can't beat that racket, let me tell you...lol.  You ain't getting MY money, butuhhh...good racket, nontheless...

So the general consensus in the comments is that the game is still broken after the patch.  I was hoping that the game was fixed but I guess that is asking too much.

Last night I started to record when the glitches, bugs and bad net code issues come up, then honestly realized it was happening throughout every single game. It's actually ridiculous how crap this game is, I'll be leaving BF behind for good once Watchdogs, The Division & Destiny come out. These guys went from top to bottom in my opinion.

MonstaTruk

Do you know how many times I've read posts on many different sites state, "who plays COD/BF for the single player campaign? Pfft!", how many times I've looked at my friends trophy lists and they have NO single player trophies, and damn near ALL multiplayer trophies & DLC? Well, here you go. This is what you've created, guys. YOU ARE THE BETA TEST. Why have an early beta, when it will just dull your excitement to the ONLY part of the game you're going to play in the first place? lol. I wouldn't, ESPECIALLY when I know that you'll come on forums and complain, and be FIRST IN LINE next year, November. It's not THEM, it's YOU SUPPORTING THEM...

DICE will try to patch up glitches, bugs etc but the world will always know this game,Buggyfield 4 was released broken.

This is the 2nd patch for Fix for friendly marker not always showing when needed to, resulting in players shooting team members but this patch didnt do shit again gg.

Also these weren't fixed either Fixed problem with killer health in kill card not being correctly updated (showing 100% health even though the soldier was hurt) and the kill trading continues even though it was "fixed" last patch.

Only thing that has been fixed for me so far is the crashing but the core gameplay is still flawed. Of course no mention of a netcode fix or improvement.

Battlefield is a great game ,i would still support them even if the game is buggy oh well.At least they tried something new with the graphic and stuff, instead of recycling a game like you know with the same graphics and gameplay...that ends with a duty behind it..

Launch: Dude this game's so buggy! They should patch this already!

Patch comes out: Dude, this should have been fixed in the first place!

Face, meet palm. They should be saying "Dude, thank god they patched it!"

I wonder if one of the modes is playable now, because before the game would randomly change you into spectator mode while you are still playing.

@xxmavr1kxx Most likely because EA had a target to meet for Q4, and to meet that target they had to push BF4 out the door. So it doesn't matter what other games are on the market especially for big players like EA. For example in the case of Torchlight 2 and Runic games it would make sense for them to delay the release taking into account Diablo 3 was going to hit the market at the same time, that would have a big effect on the sales of a small developer like Runic.

Due to this process EA probably met their target, however this will probably inadvertently affect their output in the coming quarters.

xsonicchaos

@xxmavr1kxx

I never understood this competitive marketing strategy (probably because I'm not an economist), but why divide the customers when you can have the full bucket-load of customers. Why compete? CoD could have released in September or whenever and instead of having a dry season right now, we could have gotten a good, stable BF4. And customers would have had money for each. And this f**king war between two games that aren't even really the same... who benefits from that? Why do that?

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@xsonicchaos Don't tar every developer with the same EA branded brush. EA are pathetic but it isn't often this level of game is accepted as a full release title. Most of them work but have a smattering of bugs. Unless it is Bathesda in which case it is more than a smattering but their worlds are huge so we can forgive them.

hellangel_boy
hellangel_boy

@xsonicchaos I really thought there was a chance that BF4 would be better than BF3, as I thought that they might have got accustomed to the new engine and refined its flaws but it seems that I thought wrong.

dovonob
dovonob

@hellangel_boy you made a better choice than me, after buying BF3 on launch day and not able to even play the single player game for the first couple of days I promised myself I would never touch another EA game again but I didn't follow my own advice and brought the stupid thing on launch day again....at least I could log on and start a game this time........just a shame it ran like a turd, got constantly disconnected, killed when standing behind solid brick walls because of the stupid lag on hit boxes etc etc.

Its now uninstalled along with Origin and this time I won't ever give another penny to EA......honestly.....

thankfully they've pretty much ruined any half decent IP's they had like Dragon Age (my god what the hell was that Dragon Age 2 all about) that I'll probably not be missing out on much.

basically stick to your initial thoughts, don't buy it.....ever.

analgrin

@hellangel_boy I've been playing BF3 on PC for almost 3 years without any issues what so ever. In fact it's one of the most stable games I own, Runs silky smooth on ultra settings so I don't know what "issues" you're talking about.

berzerk0912
berzerk0912

@MonstaTruk and EA & Activision knows this that's why they keep pumping crappy, unfinished games every year. It's the "FAKE" gamers that continuously goes out to blindly buy that $hit thinking it will be better than the last.

berzerk0912
berzerk0912

@gsp0tmaster4u29 Betafield 4 is so broken it's probably beyond patch repair. It's like a tire you can only put so many patches on it before you have to replace it. Look at Betafield 3 that game have a lot patches, and it's still not fixed. Dice just replaced it with a new one just like a tire.

@Toadamus Thanks for helping me to prove my point from my above comment. You are the perfect example.

@Toadamus To be fair BF4 is recycled BF3. Its the same engine and PC BF3 looks the same as 'next gen' BF4.

@KBABZ No, they should be saying "this should have been fixed in the first place". I'm sick of companies releasing broken games.

@xsonicchaos @xxmavr1kxx Both of you two make good points, but remember that last year like this year EA released Battlefield weeks before COD and road the fps buzz and those who could not wait for cod which allowed BF to post it best sales yet last year. And every inch into the 800lb gorilla in the room you can take away from him you do.

But this year they simply had to release bf4 before cod and before the new consoles. The holiday cash can only be spread so far and if your hand is in front of the line ......

It would be wonderful to have had a polished fps for spring or summer this year - but when 7 million people buy new consoles - it will be a while before the mainstream gamer will buy another big title en masse.  xxmavr there was an article at gamesindusrtyinternational, i think, addressing DICE time line - of course the studio defends the release many more come forward in regards to betatesting and lack of suggesting the game need more time. Might have been polygon.com

@Dannystaples14

I don't know. I kinda notice a trend here, a pattern, if you will. It's starting to become very often, and it's all the fault of casual and impatient gamers. It's the fault of the abundance of MMOs and mobile games and freemiums and facebook games and everything has to be online and early-access and s**t. We're heading towards a hopeless gaming future. You can call me pessimistic all you want, and I hope I'm mistaken, I'll gladly eat my words if I am, but it's kinda obvious. Greed is the determining factor. Quality? Not so much.

@dovonob @hellangel_boy I didn't buy BF4 because of the issues I had with it during Beta. I'm going to give Titanfall a try; I really hope it's a good game.

@DiverseGamer@KBABZ How about saying "Gee, maybe I should have waited a couple of days after release before buying"?  I think you'll have a lot better luck with that then hoping companies suddenly break with a tradition that's decades old.

KBABZ

@DiverseGamer I agree that it shouldn't have been broken, but there is a problem where gamers can't appreciate when a dev does eventually fix the game.

Dannystaples14

@xsonicchaos I do get what you mean with Early Access. It is all you can see on Steam these days. And Indies. 1 hour worth of content which then just repeats over and over again.

It is why I will never give up my copy of Final Fantasy VII and VIII, reminds me how it good it can be.

berzerk0912

@McGregor@MonstaTruk Gamers that bend over, and let publishers shove anything up their ass while saying it's okay it will be better the next time around with a Kool-Aid smile.

berzerk0912
berzerk0912

@hellangel_boy But at the same time most people will still stand in line to buy the next one, the next one, and the next one. EA & Activision knows this that's why they keep pumping out unfinished, low quality crappy games. "Fake" gamers are willing to accept this, and is responsible for this cycle destroying gaming as a hobby. They keep buying the $hit games thinking the next one will be better, or say some lame excuse defending an unfinished product not knowing that some games can be so broken it is impossible to completely fix no matter how many patches get thrown at it.

@Zloth2@DiverseGamer@KBABZ

Right? Some gamers probably think they're special for playing first or something. This is not a frikin race! What we need is patience and what the devs need is more testers, ones that get payed!

@KBABZ@DiverseGamer

Appreciate? What, they're making you a favor now? You already appreciated them with your money... for a broken game! It's like buying a broken car. Do we have to thank the car dealer for offering a free service repair? In this day and age apparently we do.

Dragon_Nexus
Dragon_Nexus

@KBABZ@DiverseGamer Appreciate is a bit much.

I shouldn't show gratitude that they managed to get the game to work as it was always meant to. I'll save that for when a developer makes a game work *better* than it was meant to.
