Battlefield 4: Naval Strike DLC hiccup causes PC delay

Latest Battlefield 4 DLC will still be released for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 today.

Here's something you won't be seeing today on the PC version of Battlefield 4.

DICE has delayed the PC launch of Battlefield 4's Naval Strike DLC due to a technical issue.

"We’ve detected an issue and it needs to be solved," wrote DICE on the Battlefield site.

The developer is not saying when it expects to be able to launch Naval Strike on PC. The DLC will still hit Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 today.

"Quality is our number one priority and we will not release Battlefield 4 Naval Strike on PC until we feel it meets the highest quality level possible," adds DICE. "Once we have a confirmed date for PC, we’ll be sure to update those players on our official channels. We appreciate your patience and look forward to seeing everyone on the Battlefield."

Naval Strike contains four new maps which revolve around fighting at sea, and a swishy hovercraft vehicle to zip about in. There's also the new Carrier Assault mode, which revives the Titan mode from Battlefield 2142.

Well, Naval Strike on PS4 has some serious frame-rate issues in some areas.

You know what this means...time to roll out fan appreciation month #2!!!

Looks like good news to me, they should make sure their games work more often before rolling them out.

In addition, 2nd assault only came out a short while ago and so we don't really need another DLC so hot on it's heels.

Ok for those Xbox One users. The BF4 Xbox Live update for Xbox One has been rescheduled. The Xbox Live update is an update to the Live Store so players can download the 4.3GB DLC and update their BF4 game. Here is the link, trust me reading the lack of info in DICE's post will just piss you off more. More than likely Xbox One Premium users will not see this DLC today.

Wow, I wonder how else they are going to screw this game up?  Keep up the bad work EA!

Wow, everybody keeps bashing this game, but even with its current problems, it's one of the best games out to date. People need to understand that a sandbox game such as this is bound to have lots of problems, HD maps, tons of entities running around, lots of vehicles and buildings exploding, not to mention the affect that the levolution has on online gameplay. people need to quit bitching, because I can't think of one game with this much amazing content, be patient and wait for things to get resolved.

2pm, Chicago. Still no sign of Naval Strike DLC on PS4.

So does this mean they learned from the launch of BF4 or not? I'm assuming they are just waiting for people to forget about BF4 launch before they releasing another unfinished product...

Are you telling me that you all don't play BF4 for the single player campaign? My mind has just been blown.

Is that why they released BF4 with so many bugs?

very depressing. the last pre-dlc patch has seen to-it that my console version of this game has remained Eff'ed beyond being able to hold a EA Server connection for more than one or two rounds at a time. DREADING the bugs that will come down with the next one.

@riggles_nz  Yeah, but the maps in Second Assault weren't very good, just updated re-releases. Firestorm sucks and Operation Metro is noobtoobville, while the other two are kinda meh for me. I liked the China Rising maps much more. Hopefully this means they're fixing the glitches with the AR-160 and the lack of sound in team deathmatch and squad deathmatch (unless they already fixed it), but what REALLY needs fixing is the horrible hit detection, likely caused by the really low tick rate.

@kaleidoscalper  Couldn't agree more. People want to call the people who have stayed with the idiots. But really, we just like the game and are willing to stand by the purchase.

@kaleidoscalper  Uhhhh.... Arma 3? Casuals.

Battlefield 4 is far from being as amazing as you fanboys would like to believe it is.

"Oh boy Levolution! Oh boy they added a specific event with a simple trigger that changes the map! So revolutionary!"

Yeah. No.

What you fanboys fail to comprehend is that we're 6 months from launch now, and there are just as many bugs in the game as there were at launch. There are even some bugs around that were present in the beta. Like spawning inside of the buildings in Dawnbreaker. Every "patch fix" adds more bugs and only fixes half of what it says it does.

We gave them a chance to fix it, but they failed.

People pay for sequels expecting them to be an improvement upon the previous game. This was not an improvement.

Battlefield 4 has had more problems than Battlefield 3 and Bad Company 2 combined.

Quantity =/= Quality

@kaleidoscalper I concur. Seriously, it beats the hell out of all the other shitty first-person shooter games.

@SoreBastard  The last DLC didn't come out till late in the afternoon. I've already gotten all my gold battle packs and new camouflages released to me, so they are giving it out a little at a time.

@TheGreyArea  That is odd that your console took a dive that hard. I have never had an issue like that, try going in and adjusting your modem/router settings (if you have the know how, and no that is not meant to be an underhanded insult. Just a warning that things are easy to screw up if you don't know how to properly calibrate things) then try the troubleshooting logs then try uninstalling/reintalling the entire game w/ patches. I had an issue like that with BF3 and they just had me delete the install/update data then reinstall it and everything was perfect and I lived happily ever after :p

kaleidoscalper

@TheGreyArea  Your comment is so depressing, it's not your fault you've never played a game of this scale, you are a console gamer. They should have never made it available to console gamers, because your machines just can't handle it.

@ant19831983 No, it means that, as always, everyone who buys EA's games are quality testing EA's games for them.

@crazywolf5150 @riggles_nz  lucky, I didn't like any of the maps. in china rising you get 20 people on mountain tops sniping  anyone who isn't in an armored vehicle.. at least in BC2 no matter what class you used there was a way to maneuver through a map by yourself on foot and still get Ace.. now you have to be squaded up with at least 3 80+level guys to even think about doing well at anything..it's pure madness..it's horrible.

@skidmarkmike11 @kaleidoscalper  Stand by the purchase?

What do you think everyone was doing those first two months?

After six months, you're going to try and say they're doing a good job?

jeffwest26
jeffwest26

@wovensilver @kaleidoscalper  couldn't disagree more but to each their own. Haven't had many issues at all and the ones I have had were only for one game, i switched servers and boom, everything was fine. That being said if you think you can create and support a better product for $60 be my guest :) In the mean time I will play one of the best shooters I have ever played and love every second of it :D

jeffwest26
jeffwest26

@garrettjdg @troystevens5  For a discount on maps and early access. As long as they get it out I will be happy. Looks like one of the most ambitious creations to date in a $15 DLC pack so as usual there will be issues but I will put my money on it being AMAZING when it does come out. Patience and see you guys on the battlefield! :)

@wovensilver @jeffwest26@kaleidoscalper

Ok lets see ARMA 3 alpha version of the game was released on March 5, 2013, allowing players to play the game during development. The beta version was released on June 25, 2013, still allowing players to play during development. Arma 3 was launched on September 12, 2013.

Now Battlefield 4 alpha version released on June 17, 2013, allowing gamers to play for 2 weeks. The Open Beta started on October 4, 2013 and ended on October 15, 2013. Battlefield 4 first launch date was October 29, 2013.

ARMA 3 - 6 months after launch date with 6 months of gamer influence prior to release date.

Battlefield 4 - 5 months after first launch date with 1 month of player influence prior to release date.

So Arma 3 had a better chance of being a better game by launch compared to Battlefield 4. Even though a game like battlefield my have its bugs, i believe that a True Gamer will enjoy the game.

@jeffwest26 @wovensilver @kaleidoscalper

I'm going to ignore that first paragraph, since it was a bunch of jumbled nonsense that did nothing for the argument.

Like I've said. They've had 6 months to fix the bugs that were present at launch, and they have yet to do so.

If that's not a giant red flag in your face, then I weep for whatever games you help design, because that is poor craftsmanship.

You can say whatever you want about the game's design, but their support has been horrible. If you're going to keep denying that in the name of "size", then you're nothing more than a fanboy, and no amount of logical, rational discussion is going to make you accept reality.

jeffwest26
jeffwest26

@wovensilver @jeffwest26 @kaleidoscalper  Well I AM a game designer so I actually understand to a certain extent what it takes to get a game like this off the ground. Oh, and I am blind but my seeing eye dog still eats peoples faces when I have him get online. Does battlelog keep track of seeing eye dog kills as well as me mashing my hands into the controller like a deranged seal? hmmmm looks like it doesn't so by your logic it must be crap!! Have fun being jaded while I enjoy things people put hard work into :)

btw there is also a HUGE struggle between publisher and developer that is usually the cause of things like this. Just into it and you will see how EA pushes release dates and DICE deals with the backlash which is not fair because they are doing a great job.

wovensilver
wovensilver

@jeffwest26 @wovensilver @kaleidoscalper

Oh boy. I'm not a game designer so my argument is completely invalid.

No.

You people seem to forget that this is a consumer driven market.

Again, if you're not noticing issues, then you must be blind.

And again, I cite Arma 3.

If Battlefield is one of the best shooters you've ever played, I feel sorry for you.

EDIT: Also, Battlefield 4 is not a sandbox shooter. It's an arcade shooter.
