Battlefield 4 gets Platoons this week

Soon you and your friends can sync up and coordinate via new social feature for DICE's military FPS.

Platoons are coming to Battlefield 4 on February 27, developer DICE announced this week. For those unaware, the Platoons program allows players to get together via Battlelog as a means to communicate and coordinate more easily. DICE says its ambition for the feature is to make it as "powerful and intuitive as possible."

When Platoons roll out later this week, players can expect the following:

  • The ability to create and join a Platoon for up to 100 members.
  • Basic Platoon management such as inviting, applying, and promoting/demoting members.
  • A private and public Platoon feed, where you can communicate and coordinate.
  • A Platoon emblem and tag that all members can easily apply.
  • The ability to earn stats for your Platoon and rank it up, and see all the matches you played together.

Platoons for Battlefield 4 will also support several customization options. In addition to choosing your own Platoon name and four-character tag, users can design their own emblem, which all members will be able to use.

You can also earn stats and rank up using Battlefield 4's new Platoons program. In order to earn stats, four players from the same Platoon must play together in the same round of Battlefield 4; your stats will then either be average or accumulated and applied to your Platoon, DICE said. Your Platoon can also rank up, initially from 1-10, but more ranks will come later. A Platoon's kill/death ratio, score per minute, and skill will also be displayed.

Regarding launch timing, DICE said Platoons will begin rolling out on Battlelog on February 27, though some players will get in earlier. All players can join a Platoon, but you'll need a Battlefield 4 Premium membership ($50) and a soldier ranked 10 or higher to create your own. The Platoon system is also platform agnostic, so a Battlefield 4 player on PC could be in the same Platoon as a player on PlayStation 4, or any other combination.

Finally, DICE pointed out that the version of Platoons rolling out this week is only the first iteration of the service. "We will continue to work on the feature to refine and expand it, but now we will finally have the opportunity to see it in action and get some real-world feedback. Now is the time for all our players to tell us what they like, what they want improved, and what they want to see next," DICE said.

Just give me cross platform gaming

really don't want to have to buy another copy of the game for PS3 to play with my mates.

I don't care about the lower player cap.

One can easily say you can see how this game is developing. It was nowhere near ready for release.

Sounds like an alight feature but seriously..?  It's being tied to Premium (at least the creation aspect)?  After all the shit people who bought this have put up with...?  Ack,  man,  it just never ends with EA, can't even have built in clan support without paying extra, whoopie.

"Soon you and your friends can sync up and coordinate via new social feature for DICE's military FPS."

At least in theory.....Now, in practice, if it works the same way as everything else in Battlefield 4 seems to work.....Well....

But hey, the game is still in Alpha.  I'm sure they will have everything perfect by release.

Wow, they thought this up all by themselves.....so what about the party system to actually communicate with other memebers when in game? look once again how about instead of adding broken features into the game. fix the broken features that are already in the game like the assignment system from dlc. you know the thing WE PAID FOR!

Grand Theft Theft.  Way to innovate, EA!

(I'm just amazed anyone still plays BF4, with all that excellent online stability & squad management...)

can you throw the C4 at the tanks and it stick? OR do you have to "Plant it" ?I've tried to set C4 several times only to fail and then get killed.

Good job dice i can be in a platoon up to 100 people but cant create a freakin 4 player squad for mp?Dice has alot of work to do if they are gonna get people to buy BF5 hell just look at the numbers now for BF4 they dropped way to early because of the BS.When titanfall comes out march 11 say goodbye to BF4.Have a feeling titanfall is gonna be in my Xbox One for the next year. Also the titanfall beta ran better than BF4 has ran the whole damn time its been out thats just sad dice

Too late, stopped playing and never buying your DLC's. When something good comes along it'll be traded in (I know how you love trade-ins EA)

The game is way more stable now on the PS4 than it was before. However, I am not even near as hooked on this game as I used to in Bad Company 2.

I play on the 360. The game crashes every 6 or so game and I have to reset the entire system. I should be able to join games with my xbox live party. I should not have to search for a game with no one in it and then yell into the mic for my party to go go go to join my game before it fills up. This should be an easy fix as they have already have the code written from their past games. These two things should be fix before any thing else. It makes the game not as fun as it should be. This new addition above is of no use to me when so much is broken.

In before all the little bitches and trolls yelling at DICE to fix the game get in here. Which I don't understand because I own the game for both my gaming rig and PS4. I play it every day with numerous friends on PS4 and my clan on PC. Game is running just fine.

People just love to hate and bitch about everything to make their little meaningless lives a little brighter. You're doing an awesome job, DICE. Don't listen to these idiots. Us true BF fans are enjoying the game immensely.

To little, to late DICE. Your game is a failure.

Lets just hope you return to form with the next Battlefield game and hope that its BAD COMPANY 3

@XNEXUS666X  I would say so, I spent like 4 hours today on the PS4 and it played smoothly the whole time.

@nl_skipper to be honest with you BF3 was not really any good without premium, it was a  must have...bf4 will go more or less the same way after more expansions are released, premium is a must have if you actively play the game

@tom2750  Sounds pretty similar except R* includes the feature with their games,  this is only included with premium!  Sounds like the crews in R* have a little more to them as well.

@spartanx169x  you need to be very close to them you can't trow it it has like a 1m range or less, if you are not sure how far you can be try putting some on cars and bike, also always maneuver tanks and get them on their blind spot, a tank is pretty easy to sneak upon if they don't have proximity radar, you can always see their line of sight by paying attention to where the cannon is point at same thing with the gunner,

404FredNotFound
404FredNotFound

@smackdowner360  Not sure how it works on the X1 but on PC you only need to make a Squad once and from there you will be join together all for all matches.

@lomar07 I totally agree...that has been the best Battlefield, multiplayer and single campaign!

@lomar07 Bad Company 2 had way better maps and was much more balanced, aside from the insane accuracy of assault rifles. Use a 4x zoom and you are practically a sniper.

@Rushaoz Everything was fine for me too until the last patch. Now, I spawn under the map, crash, and get odd sound bugs. Plus, you know you and your friends aren't the only people in the world that play the game right?

You\re an idiot. I own the game on both my gaming PC and PS4 . the game is far from a failure. Matter of fact it's working absolutely fine and is the most fun you can have on an online FPS at the moment. Go troll elsewhere.

nl_skipper

@thorn3000  I mostly agree with that, but that's almost the most sickening part about it all... almost everyone already has premium (any dedicated players, and many who got duped), so why still hide it behind that barrier?  It doesn't make any sense unless it's ultra premium greed madness to suck in as many people as possible... and that's exactly it, it's marketing gone too far.

hystavito

@thorn3000 @nl_skipper  You really think Premium was a must have for BF3?  That just doesn't sound right.  What about all the time before it even became available?

S001_PRIMAL

@krystyla @lomar07  and ui friendly too. ontop of that it was far more realistic. even camouflages did what they were suppose to do, blend you into the background. now unlocking things that are suppose to be a standard have become a brag right or pay to win. assignments, really, i can understand a minor chore list like get a kill with this but when it comes down to the fact that they are asking for not only the most ridiculous of requirements but they are telling you how to play and on top of that removing the objective aspect of the game.

lomar07
lomar07

@krystyla @lomar07  True, but man that game was so much fun, it's the only game that I have ever spent over a thousand hours playing on PC or any other platform.

@PS4andXoneGamer @Rushaoz  Me too ive been playing since 1942 beta demo, before it came out.

I think the series went downhill with Battle Company 2 maybe BF3. I know those are some of the favorite titles. But to me people liked those titles because honestly it felt like a COD game. Easy to kill, no FF, classes were too versatile. But once DICE started copying others I didnt expect anything new from them.

My favorite BF title is actually Bad Company 1. That was a groundbreaker. Sadly no one brings that up even though im sure they loved it to death. But seems any BF title after BC1 still relied on what BC1 brought to the table. The destruction, the sounds, the chatter...to bad no FF and balanced classes anymore.

I also loved BF1943. Wished that made it past just having 3 maps.

Rushaoz
Rushaoz

@PS4andXoneGamer @Rushaoz  So have I... I've had the most fun I've ever had in an FPS with 1942's Desert Combat mod. Really, BF4 isn't bad at all. You just some gripes elsewhere. 50+ person clan and I have been playing BF since 1942 and NONE of use have anything bad to say about the game other than the few non deal breaking bugs that occur.

@nl_skipper @thorn3000 well, you get what you pay for..such is life. you want premium content? you have to pay for it. just like if go to buy a car for example. you can pay 15K and get a basic version of a car..or you can pay 25k and get all the bells and whistles included in that car. its a Business first and foremost. and its a business model thats been around forever. this isnt something new EA cooked up out of the blue..every game developer has some form of collectors editions, premium content, or what ever you want to call it for their games..no one is hiding anything behind a a barrier..if you want it, you have to pay for it...period, they arent forcing you to pay for it are they?

Goron24

@Rushaoz @PS4andXoneGamer  So because someone has an opinion contrary to yours you assume they are trolling? You must be real fun at parties.
