Battlefield 4 campaign details revealed

Gamers will play as Sergeant Daniel Recker, member of Tombstone squad; missions will take place in Shanghai, Singapore, and Azerbaijan.

Battlefield 4 developer DICE has released new campaign details for this October's new military shooter. Gamers will play as Sergeant Daniel Recker, a member of an elite group of "unlikely heroes" known as Tombstone squad.

Missions in Battlefield 4 will take place across the world in destinations like Azerbaijan, Shanghai, and Singapore, DICE said. In one chapter, players will rescue VIPs, among them a CIA field operative known as Laszlo W. Kovic.

Kovic is the focus of an upcoming Battlefield novel that provides the backstory for the CIA operative and the larger Battlefield 4 fiction.

"As you reach Singapore you are shocked to find a horrific scene of fire and mayhem," the game's description reads. "The flagship is sunk and its fleet is eradicated, and from this point on nothing is certain."

Battlefield 4 launches October 29 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are in the works but do not have release dates yet.

I'll probably say this every time this comes up, but they should really make Battlefield multiplayer only and Bad Company the campaign series...

Drop the campaign and put that effort into what Battlefield is!

They should just release them both as separate packages, at least then that will be good enough market research for future projects!

Or i'll tell you right now, scrap single player and put more into multi!! ¬'¬

Well, you have to give COD "the run for their money" some how.

Singapore? And they said COD copied BF, but I guess it's just normal. I wished they put more exotic locations (Taiwan perhaps) in games....
*PS : about the copying stuff, just an observer of both

no matter what, single player campaigns are the core of any good game, because when online play gets frustrating or just not your day, playing a good story line while still being able to enjoy actual gameplay for a game and its mechanics are essential, medal of honor front line for PS2 was the shit, devs got to get back to making good stories as well as the multiplayer, and i mean good stories as in LONGER play time till its been beat lol

I don't even remember BF3's campaign, it was THAT horrible. I expect the same horrible "movie" in BF4. Multiplayer is where this baby shines.

This game has a campaign? Huh, I guess you really do learn something new everyday.

Why must EA write some crappy action story involving "various locations around the world" ?? We've played that a million times before....

Give us a story like this:

Year 2020. Radical government takes power in Italy. Walls off Italian peninsula, shuts down Italian ports to hostile factions. You play as a member of the NATO coalition sent in to take back the country. Surround the player with a few squadmates who have personality, and traits that we can relate to. Fill the campaign with choices that test our morals, and add music that is gripping, and plays to intensify the emotions. Add some cutscenes that show flashbacks to the soldiers families at home, to add a human element to it. No over the top weapons of mass destruction, or global war, or anything like that. Just a good ole fashioned tale of liberation, and the emotional toll being deployed takes on one's family. That would be a hell of a campaign.

Anybody wanna see something along these lines?

I honestly thought the campaign in BF3 was terrible. I usually don't use that word, but it was terrible. Fantastic visuals, but it was so heavily scripted, led you by your hand... everything just felt like a hollywood movie that I was barely playing. It didn't help the story wasn't interesting. Luckely the multiplayer was great.

Game looks good. Hopin they lose the lag issues that cropped up during the last two expansions from bf3 and im sold. Im also hopin that if they offer a premium option that it won't be as expensive as before and will be available earlier so that I won't have to spend do much on it! As for the lag, the game is practically unplayable on local servers where I have a ping of under 20 and am playing with 100+ ping guys and they have scores of 50 to 60 kills with less than 10 deaths and when I shoot them my shots don't register till my clip is gone and im dead in an instant or im dead before I can even react. It's truly a shame! I just went right back to plain Jane COD and have had less issues there and more fun!

Gee, I really hope the story;s told in that super awesome "flash back" method that is so popular in shooters these days...

Somehow I doubt that the novel will do too well.  I mean, why would you read a novel about a Battlefield 4 character, when you can just play the game instead.  Does anybody really need a back story as to why you need to shoot someone in the face?  Kill or be killed, ....next.  That is all you need to know.  Here is your gun, shoot that guy before he shoots you.  Got it?  Good.  Novel in trash, Bf4 disc in tray.  Perfect.

Singapore? I will consider to end my EA boycott if you put Marina Bay and Orchard Road and Geylang in there!

If BF ever did get a amazing co op campaign as the frosting on the Multiplayer Battlefield cake, it would be unstoppable.

I feel like I'm one of the only people who had fun playing BF3's campaign. Multiplayer blows it out of the water, that's for sure, but the single player wasn't bad. Can't wait to play BF4.

@cloud9allday *Hits head against desk* Battlefield has never been a story driven game. The premis is that a bunch of people get together and have epic battles. It's a virtual paintball match on a massive scale. I believe story is the most important element in most things, but not in stuff like this (or something like minecraft) It just doesn't belong here, and even in BC2, where the story was ok-ish, it felt wrong to be playing a story driven campaign. People who demand Battlefield to have any kind of story driven campaign, let alone a good one, do not know the francise's aim or history.

@cloud9allday What about Starhawk? SP was a mere add on or tutorial, yes i agree it is nice to play a single player war game (a good one, not MoH) but as we enter the new generation, online is the new offline. Are we really going to be buying games (like this one) for the SP experience? I am not, i am buying it for the massive multiplayer battles that are sure to commence!

@USMC575 How it REALLY should go is this;

Year 2020. Radical mayor takes power of a small town in Greece. Walls off its cobbled perimeter,  shuts down phone lines to the local villages. You play as a representative of the UN sent in to take back the consulate. Surround the player with a few desk jockeys who have personality, and paper pushing experience that we can relate to. Fill the campaign with choices that test our knowledge of legal speak, and add music that is gripping, and that annoying paperclip to intensify the emotions. Add some cutscenes that show how to correctly layout an excel sheet, to add a human element to it. No over the top weapons of mass destruction, or global war, or anything like that. Just a good ole fashioned tale of liberation, and the emotional toll being deployed takes on one's minibar. That would be a hell of a campaign.

@USMC575 So, make 'Vexill' then? Only in Italy instead of Japan. Originality no longer exists in the true definition of the word.

@hardeddie nah, they'll just rework some Chinatown level to make it look like "Singapore". it's not like anyone outside of S'pore will know the difference.

@dirtdog10304 I was thinking the same.BF is multiplayer game - so why not multiplayer campaign as well?!? Especially that, if it is anything like BF3, player will be accompanied by AI team-mates.

I think Dice/EA are really missing a chance by not doing co-op in BF4. That's from my point of view, at least - I did BF3 campaign once and went through all co-op missions multiple times. Without co-op in BF4, I will wait to see how game turns out and what will EA do with servers (wasn't too happy with the way EA rented majority of official servers on BF3 and let little admin tyrants spoil so many good games). Maybe I'll wait for next-gen console version to grab it. If I get it at all.

With co-op and some reassurance re servers, it would be day one purchase.

@Rattlesnake_8

3-4 hours.

though, why bother even following the story of gruff Marine #256, and his team of 2D personalities?

@danganronpas For me it wasn't that it sucked, it was the fact that bad company 2's story was a little better and bad company 1's was much better. For me the campaigns have been getting worse. DICE has went from sandbox style to doing what everyone else was doing.

LINUX1997
LINUX1997

@matthieu456 @danganronpas bc stories really had nothing interesting.Just some story for the little kids.bf3 had much better story. The best belongs to MW series and BO have a great too.

p.s. story is not the same as gameplay. If you like that bc1 was open world, it doesn't mean that it had better story.
