Battlefield 4 beta starts fall 2013

[UPDATE] EA confirms next entry in shooter series, promises access to beta next year for those who preorder October's Medal of Honor Warfighter; "The Battlefield 3 story is still just the beginning," company says.

This morning, Electronic Arts confirmed Battlefield 4, and said a beta for the new shooter will commence during fall 2013 for unspecified platforms. Gamers can get access to the trial period by preordering this October's Medal of Honor Warfighter. EA said more details regarding Battlefield 4 and its beta will be announced at a later date.

Battlefield 4's beta will deploy next fall.

Speculation concerning Battlefield 4 was sparked over the weekend, when EA's Origin webstore posted, and subsequently removed, promotional material for the game.

[UPDATE] The official Battlefield website has been updated with a message from EA on Battlefield 4. The statement says the company has nothing further to share on Battlefield 4 at present, and talked up Battlefield 3 as a game still in its early stages.

"Even with billions of bullets fired and millions of games played, we know the Battlefield 3 story is still just the beginning," reads a line from the statement.

The existence of Battlefield 4 comes as little surprise. Battlefield 3 arrived in October 2011 to a warm critical reception and shipments of 15 million units. Additionally, EA Labels president Frank Gibeau said in November "there is going to be a Battlefield 4."

Battlefield 4 may not be the only new franchise entry in the works. A report from May suggested series developer DICE was at work on a new entry in the spinoff series, Battlefield: Bad Company 3.

This looks just like Battlefield 3, except a little better looking. I like choosing the soldier from any Country. I would choose the KSK fro Germany :P

This is dissapointing news, there's still problems with BF3 that shouls be fleshed out, and should have never been there in the first place, like the title screen not that it affects gameplay but sometimes the my soldier screens are annoying, and why the fuck can't you look at the russian soldier 3D model for camo and what not

It's way to early... current gen consoles and even most PC's can't currently be pushed any further then BF3.  I predict a future in which BF becomes like COD and starts to release a slightly better game every year instead of waiting a few and releasing a groundbreaking game :(

Possibly on a next gen platform? I think it will be on the 360/ps3 , but it wouldn't shock me to see it launched alongside a new console.

Yeah great, battlefield 4. Well what about the system requirements this time? Tired of upgrading my computer every year.

Battlefield 4, Medal of Honor Warfighter, Battlefield Bad Company 3 ---> So many resources devoted to essentially the exact same FPS game. It's even worse since all 3 are shooters (not like a variety with one being an RPG or a strategy game and a FPS). And then people wonder why interesting gaming is dying......when they can sell 15 million units making THE SAME game with slightly prettier graphics OVER AND OVER again, there will be no innovation in gaming for years to come, except small studios.

Fingers crossed for A WW2 setting for BF4, BF 1942 was definitely the greatest of the entire franchise, I only wish they'd recreate it in next gen glory, you know you want it.

It's the same thing they did with BF3 beta, so a few things new guys should know:

- This means BF4 will be released in winter 2013

- The beta is a glorified demo, nothing else, they're just calling it a beta. Real beta tests are nothing like the stuff EA puts out.

- The early access will be pointless, with BF3 it was only 2 days, and a lot of people who pre-ordered MoH never even got the codes.

- With BF3 DICE deliberately hid a lot of the features which turned out to be controversial/copying COD later on (Like Audio spotting, mortars etc.) You can expect more of the same with BF4.

Finally, don't bother trying to give feedback, DICE does not listen to it whatsoever - this has been proven by EAUK - which was closed down and lives on as "MordorHQ" - the forums of old-time BF fans were literally giving extremely constructive feedback and ideas for years, there was one person who spent tonnes of time using photshop to show DICE how the BF3 UI could be improved massively, and DICE has ignored all of it. Don't believe anything they say about listening to their fans, the Director, Patrick Bach even once openly stated that they "Don't care about individual thoughts" and make game changes only if player data and telemetry supports it.

ok, wait, so, BF3 is released in 2011, BF4 beta is in late 2013. which means a probable fall 2014 release date, and people say its the new COD? get a grip. I would say 3 years is quite a long time to develop a game...

I think it is funny that they give access to the beta for pre-ordering MOH Warfighter, when this article was released just a couple days ago.

Kinda wishing that people would stop saying things like "It's the BETA, the game won't be out til 2014"   Besides the fact that EA have said they want to publish a shooter annually to compete with that other shooter, has everyone conveniently forgotten the the BF3 beta hit in September last year(the fall, technically) and then the game dropped in October?   This is a bad move on EA's part in my opinion.  the community would have respoded much better to an announcement that DICE are working on Mirrors Edge 2.  And if you want another shooter for next year, find yourselves some new IP and develop that.  You know, Like EA used to do before it was profit over everything else!

The Alpha & Beta for Bf3 bored me, plus they just put out that overpriced $40 "Dlc". I still play BFBC2 which overall is better, oh & the full game is $20 or less.

In my opinion the core battlefield franchise should be pc only and the bad company series should stay on consoles that way everyone will get a awesome battlefield experience including console owners as the bad company series is designed for consoles in the first place In my opinion Battlefield bad company 2 is currently my favorite battlefield game on consoles as it had awesome maps, great destruction and audio, epic atmosphere in the environments, almost everything about bc2 is Epic and in complete honesty bc2 deserves more players than bf3 that is just how good it is.

They constantly rag on CoD, but now they're using CoD's blueprint. The "Premium" thing is a copy of CoD's "Elite" service. Now they're going to release a game every 12-18 months most likely. BF is going to become as much of a joke as CoD over the next few years, so fanboys from both sides can stop fighting.

People, the BETA COMES OUT IN FALL 2013, NOT THE ACTUAL GAME!! Were not even in fall this year, so by the time the actual game is released, it would be about 2 YEARS!!! Not every year like COD >_>

this is a big bag of mix feelings.... the game and new gadgets, weapons, etc, look amazing, great new ideas, maybe a bit just to much "future-tech" for me, I don't really like the idea of having so much help like glowing lines around my "buddies", that;s too Halo for this game, This are more dirty and messy environment and already confusing to add more HUD info into it.

I don't expect to make a game hyper realistic, but adding SO much info about where is every one everything by having icons all over the place is not really my thing. I think part of the "what the hell is going on and where is every one" factor is a lot more fun than having everything laying just in front of you.... BUT it looks good.....!BUT it should have being a BF3 map pack.... AND they should have polish BF3 a bit more BEFORE they released this one....

Merl57

TOO SOON. Are you kidding me.  I just dropped money for premium and I know within the next year they won't support it any more, that is to say everyone will jump ship.  This is disgraceful this is what the industry is, a factory.

You can actualy look at the 3d model for the russian. If you play on ps3/Xbox/PC you can just press a button and switch between american and russian models.

@Zeketra trust Dice... for better or worse, they've been making the same game for years.

@dainZ I was just thinking that, and since they're so "secretive" about it, I thought it may arrive on a new console.

I don't know how you got a 2014 release date. They'll want it released around the same time as Call of Duty 2013 so to compete against it.

TroubleMaker411

@ZOD777 I would also hazard a guess that EA has no faith in medal of honour.  Hoping that this will bump sales to the BF3 crowd

TroubleMaker411
TroubleMaker411

@killa32130 problem is, once the new game is out on console, with no EA/DICE servers on consoles, the BF3 online community will die.  Rented servers on consoles almost guarantees that IMHO

@lm316 yeah good thing is i didnt buy it yet. hehe

so they will only have a 1 month beta, make no changes and release the game? i think not.

ZOD777
ZOD777

@TroubleMaker411  @lm316 Servers will start to drop off, not to mention player counts when BF4 drops.  I think EA made a huge mistake by dropping map packs out one by one too.  You limit player pools that way.  Most players that buy the next will stop playing most vanilla maps leaving those that didn't buy it with a smaller pool as well.  Then, it happens all over again to the point where you are pretty much left with premium players at the arrival of the last map pack.

Elrax

@ts997 Every 2 years for Battlefield is like 1 year for CoD. The beta next fall? That just means the development cycle is 1 year. I like Battlefield but I definitely don't like what EA is doing with the franchise.

nikon133

@ZOD777 @TroubleMaker411 @lm316 Not necessarily. Metro still seems to be among most popular maps, and other original maps are easy to find and play, usually full (or close to full). In fact, I think there are more new maps that are hardly to find than original maps.

TroubleMaker411
TroubleMaker411

@ZOD777 I see it going like this.  All official EA/DICE servers will shift to BF4.  Rented servers will return for BF4 and as such all rented servers bar a few hardcore players will disappear once subscription runs out.  The community will fizzle out within a couple of months I reckon, and that's just sad.  I kind of agree on the map packs, but I also think that by around the 6-8 month mark that it's time for expansion packs and DLC and I just hope that others take it up.  It's why I liked the idea of premium.  One payment and the map and gamer pool stays as large as possible.  But now it feels like EA are saying "we got your money, now we'll take more thanks"  feel a little ripped off.

@Elrax to late, it's ea and i lve battlefield but i can already see the future and in that future this once great franchise is going to be as generic as every other shooter. look at the new MOH that ea is releasing it looks like battlefield with no jets, nothing stays sacred with EA its quantity/quality.
