The M870 is an American made Pump-Action Shotgun that has been used by Special Forces units for decades. In urban environments the M870 is especially effective due to its high stopping power at close range. PP-2000

Though chambered in the standard 9x19mm caliber, the PP-2000 is designed to use Russian overpressure rounds at high velocity to penetrate body armor. The high muzzle velocity of the PP-2000 gives it a flatter trajectory than other 9mm weapons, and its compact size make it ideal as a Personal Defense Weapon. When equipped with the 40 round extended magazine the PP-2000 also functions admirably in a CQB assault role.

  • Unlocked: Rank 7
  • Fire Mode: Auto, Single
  • Rate of Fire: 600
  • Ammo: 20 (9x19mm Parabellum)
  • Range: Short

UMP-45

German built, the UMP-45 is a fully automatic Personal Defense Weapon noted for its versatility and optimal mobility. A reliable and versatile weapon, the M1014 is also equipped with a rail for the mounting of various accessories and an open choke that results in wide pellet spread.

PDW-R

Developed as a Personal Defense Weapon, the PDW-R differs from most other PDW concepts by utilizing the standard 5.56mm NATO rounds of the M16 or M4. This allows the PDW-R to share magazines and supply lines with standard troops while its short length and bullpup configuration allow the PDW-R to be easily operated in CQB. Though it lacks the accuracy of a rifle, the PDW-R has a greater punch at longer ranges than other PDWs.

    Assault Equipment

The Assault Kit has access to a diverse array of assault rifles that offer long range damage. The Assault Kit can heal teammates by dropping med packs or reviving with the defibrillator.

The Assault is the most versatile class from it's access to long range weapons. You could help support teammates with the Suppressive Specialization, make a mad dash across the field with Sprint, or turn into a human turret with Ammo.

For suppressive fire we tend to go with the rapid firing F2000. We also favor speed for close range action and wield the AS VAL in these situations. You should also pick a side arm that counter balances your main weapon. For example the quick G18 is nice for close range shotguns, while the .44 Magnum will help someone with a long range assault rifle.

Of course one of the Assault's main advantages is the use of medical kits. If you're traveling with your squad, let the Engineers or Support take on the enemy while you distribute healing. Your side will always be better off with a fully healed team. A good medic will also allow teammates to shrug off getting hit once or twice.

    M16A3

The 3rd generation of M16A3 has been upgraded with a RIS (Rail Interface System) for mounting accessories and is capable of Automatic and Semi-Automatic fire. Available to front line units engaged in urban combat, the M16A3's low recoil makes a capable all around weapon.

    Engineer Equipment

The Engineer Kit uses medium range machineguns and carbines. They can also take down vehicles with the use of rocket launchers. Sometimes it's better to only disable a vehicle, as an Engineer can repair the damage and steal an enemy ride. We go into more details under the Ground Vehicle section.

The Engineer's main job is all about taking down enemy vehicles, so stick with the Explosive Specialization. The SMAW and RPG-7V2 are ideal as you'll mostly be against ground vehicles. The FIN-92 Stinger and SA-18 IGLA are passable for taking on air vehicles, but most of the time it's just easier to get in an anti-air vehicle or man one of the grounded missile launchers.

Since you're going to end up a giant target for enemy fire, you might want to change your Specialization to Cover to avoid being disorientated or get the hell out with Sprint Specialization. As for main weapons, we tend to favor the medium range guns specific to the Engineer kit. However, if you feel like getting in close the DAO-12 is amazing for such a job.

    AKS-74u

Derived from the AKS-74, the AKS-74u is a shortened Carbine with the power of a rifle cartridge but the size of a submachine gun. Support Equipment

The Support Kit uses automatic rifles and machineguns at medium range. This Kit doesn't need to worry about ammo, as they can throw down ammo boxes that can be used by the team. The Support Kit is a master of placing down explosives ranging from C4 and Claymore mines.

With the Support's focus on machineguns we like to pair them with the Suppressive Specialization. Using this you don't have to be completely accurate, instead you can spray bullets in the general direction of a foe and disable them. This will leave them extremely vulnerable to additional fire from your allies.

On the other hand you can create an ideal sapper with use of the Explosive Specialization. We prefer C4 over Claymores due to their remote detonation, but both are excitable. You will have to monitor when an enemy is near your C4, but the satisfaction of destroying battle tanks with the push of a button is worth it. Because you'll be getting in close to enemy vehicles and the soldiers protecting them, we prefer wielding a close range PP-2000 or DAO-12.

    Recon Equipment

The Recon Kit uses long range semi auto and bolt action sniper rifles. Unlike other Kits, Recon doesn't have a starting gadget but will unlock the SOFLAM and MAV to help track targets.

We prefer to make use of two different builds: the classic sniper, and a speedy scout. The sniper of course makes use of one of the many rifles and gains some extra protection from the cover specialization. Your role is to camp in the back and take down Engineers or Support soldiers that are trying to destroy friendly vehicles; with your long range scope also be sure to tag any enemy you see. Keep a magnum on you to take out any close by enemies, as your rifle isn't ideal for close quarters.

Of course you'll also wind up in many sniper vs sniper fights. In these cases take cover behind any nearby wall and quickly pop out to land a head shot. You could stay prone for better aim, but this can leave you a sitting duck for counter attacks. Alternately there is the option of standing and sprinting away, but this is a double edged sword: you mobility makes you harder to hit, but you're overall a larger target. You can take these riskier options if you have support from the rest of your squad, but if you're on your own try to be defensive.

For our scout build we combine a shotgun with the sprint specialization. Your objective with this build is to get in close and take out enemies quickly. Also, since you are a Recon your other main task is to mark enemy locations with heavy use of your SOFLAM and/or MAV. Your quick speed and tagging capabilities will make you a key asset to any teammate flying a jet or chopper.

While it's nice to know about infantry, what makes a Battlefield game is its use of vehicles. Always be sure to get inside one of these armored beasts. It's an even bigger advantage to play as an Engineer as it becomes much easier to repair and steal vehicles. If your ride is damaged, pop a smoke and repair under concealment. As for enemy vehicles, don't out right destroy them. Instead, blast the vehicle only enough to disable it, lure out and kill the driver and repair it with your own torch.

If you're playing as a Support class, make use of your explosive claymores and C4. If your vehicle is disabled by an enemy engineer, toss down a mine underneath. When the enemy soldier climbs inside they will automatically blow sky-high.

But most important is to stop and allow other players to get inside the gunner seats. Any vehicle becomes much more powerful when two soldiers are able to blast heavy weapons in two different directions. Also, one person can jump out and repair the vehicle while the other provides coverfire. If for some reason you find yourself solo, always be sure to switch to the gunner's seat to help defend a position.

    Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The LAV-25 (American) and BMP-2M (Russian) are IFVs. They are slightly faster than the main battle tanks but have less armor and less powerful weapons. IFVs should mainly be used to take on infantry and lighter armored vehicles. In most cases it's weak to the stronger battle tanks, but can combated with quick movement or superior numbers. The gunner passenger should concentrate on soldiers while the main driver disables other vehicles in the area.

The LAV-25 and BMP-2M share scores for unlocks, so you only need pilot one to outfit the other.

    • Unlock Progression: IR Smoke, ATGM Launcher, Belt Speed, Coaxial LMG, Thermal Optics, Prximity Scan, Zoom Optics, Maintenance, APFSDS-T Shell, Thermal Camo, Guided Missile, Reactive Armor

    Battle Tank

The M1 Abrams (American) and T-90A (Russian) are the main battle tanks for each side. They are heavily armored with extremely powerful main cannons. However, they are among the slowest vehicles. The best use of the main battle tank is to take out IFVs and anti-air vehicles. It's slow speed makes it harder to take on fast infantry, but it's quite possible. Often it's better to not bother with direct fire and instead kill enemies with area splash damage. The main cannon's fire is strong enough to destroy most walls and kill the foes cowering behind them.

Overall the main thing to look out for are sneaky enemy Engineers and Support classes that will try and disable your tank with explosives. A good gunner should quickly tackle any of these threats, leaving the pilot to destroy stronger vehicles.

    • Unlock Progression: IR Smoke, Coaxial Lmg, Autoloader, Zoom Optics, Maintenance, Coaxial HMG, Proximity Scan, Guided Shell, Thermal Optics, Thermal Camo, Canister Shell, Reactive Armor, City Station

    Anti-Air

The LAV-AD (American) and 9K22 Tunguska-M (Russian) are the anti-air vehicles. As the name implies these are the vehicles for taking on enemy helicopters and jets. You should always start with your homing rockets as the air vehicles will attempt to get away. As the rockets cool down, switch to the powerful machineguns to finish off the enemy. These machineguns are strong enough to deal with enemy soldier and even lightly armored vehicles. If you are up against a battle tank, it's best to book it as your guns aren't a good match with the tank's heavy shields.

    • Unlock Progression: IR Smoke, Anti-Air Missile, Belt Speed, Zoom Optics, Proximity Scan, Thermal Optics, Air Radar, Maintenance, Thermal Camo, Reactive Armor

    Air Vehicles

Helicopters and planes are much tougher to control than ground vehicles. It's best to try out flying in co-op or smaller servers (Mainly completely empty ones). It will hinder your team if you jump in a whirly bird, only to crash seconds later.

As with land vehicles, it's nice to take an Engineer for repairs. However, it is likely that you'll take too much damage while flying and will have to make a crash landing. If you can time it correctly, ram into an enemy location while you parachute out at the last second.

    Scout Helicopter

Helicopters do not accelerate; they only go up or down. To move forward you will have to completely pitch the entire vehicle. This can make it a bit difficult to move and fire accurately at the same time. This makes it important to always pick up a few allied gunners to keep you covered. You'll eventually also gain flares to disrupt rockets, but those are for seasoned pilots.

The AH-6J Little Bird and Z-11W are Scouting helicopters. They are slightly faster than attack helicopters, but not as heavily armed. They also have less unlockable options. Mainly use these little guys for transportation, spotting and taking on infantry.

    • Unlock Progression: IR Smoke, Heat Seekers, Stealth, Belt Speed, Proximity Scan, Air Radar, Extinguisher, Maintenance, Guided Missile, Below Radar, Laser Painter, ECM Jammer

    Attack Helicopter

The AH-1Z Viper and MI-28 Havoc are better built for taking on heavy ground vehicles and combating weaker air vehicles. It can be hard at first to take on speedy Flankers and Hornets, but eventually gain guided and heat seeking missiles to take on these enemies.

Attack helicopters control the same as scout helicopters, but have different unlockables.

    • Unlock Progression: IR Smoke, Heat Seekers, Stealth, Autoloader, Zoom Optics, Proximity Scan, Air Radar, Guided Missile, Extinguisher, Maintenance, Thermal Optics, Laser Painter, Below Radar, ECM Jammer, Guided Rocket, TV Missile

    Planes

As with helicopters, practice flying planes before taking them out in a fight. Mainly get the hang of turning via rolling to the side and pitching slightly. Use deceleration to make sharp turns, and let go of the throttle once you have plenty of momentum. And of course, spot any enemy you see to rack up points. You are a sitting duck until you get a large enough score for anti-missile flares.

There are two types of jets at your disposal: air-to-ground A-10 Thunderbolts and SU-25TM Frogfoot, and air-to-air F/A-18E Super Hornet and SU-35BM Flanker-E. While each has default weapons better suited for different enemies, whith unlocks they can be great for all situations. Your main objective should always be to take out slower helicopters, followed by hulking tanks. Of course enemy planes will always be on your tail so be sure to get evasive.
