Electronic Arts has today released the next incremental update for Battlefield 1942 and a set of map editing tools for the game. The 1.4 patch includes a number of gameplay enhancements and bug fixes, plus two new weapon models for the Russian and Japanese assault rifles, a new blood effect, and other visual improvements. The map editing tools are available in open beta form, and EA is asking for feedback on them. The editing tools come in a 12MB file and require the 1.4 update. There's a 54MB sample map pack that may be helpful in learning how to use the tools. The files are available for download from the links below.

More information on the 1.4 update and the map editor is available on the game's Web site. For more details on Battlefield 1942, check out our previous coverage of the game and the Road to Rome expansion pack.
