While Batman fans will have to wait a while longer for the delayed Batman: Return to Arkham collection, a new game in the series is out today on mobile.

Batman: Arkham Underworld, a free-to-play game developed by Lord of the Rings Online studio Turbine, has arrived for iOS devices.

You don't play as Batman in the game, but rather some of the Caped Crusader's enemies. The overall goal is to become Arkham's "next criminal mastermind," and you'll do this by amassing an army of henchmen and eventually fighting other bad guys in PvP battles.

Supervillains featured in the game include The Riddler, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, and Killer Croc.

Additionally, if your criminal empire becomes big enough, you might square off against Batman himself in a final showdown.

In terms of story, Arkham Underworld takes place before the events of Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Warner Bros. did not announce any plans to release Arkham Underworld for Android devices. We've followed up with the company in an attempt to get more details.

Arkham Underworld isn't the only new Batman game on the way this year. Batman: Arkham VR for PlayStation VR is coming out later this year, while the Return to Arkham remaster collection is reportedly coming in November, though this is not official.
