Batman getting Brave, Bold on Wii, DS

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces adaptation of animated superhero team-up series for launch this fall.

by

Last year, the mostly moribund Batman gaming franchise was resuscitated in grand fashion by the critical and commercial hit Batman: Arkham Asylum. That title, developed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s now in-house Rocksteady Studios, arrived only for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

It's Batman: The Brave and the Bold, or "B-Cubed," as the cool kids call it.

The Caped Crusader is going to get a shot at redemption on Nintendo systems as well. WBIE today announced that Batman: The Brave and the Bold the Videogame is set for release this fall on the Wii and DS.

Much like the animated series on which it is based, The Brave and the Bold will feature Gotham’s favorite orphan teaming up with other heroes to take down a rogues' gallery in seedy alleys, on other planets, and everywhere in between. As for the non-Batman roster, WBIE has said that gamers will be able to play as Robin, Green Lantern, and Blue Beetle in the game’s two-player cooperative mode. Additionally, those who splurge for both the Wii and DS editions of the game will be able to unlock the impish Bat-Mite for play in both titles. DC Comics heroes like Aquaman and Plastic Man will also appear in some form.

The Brave and the Bold game is in development at WayForward Studios. The company has seen a number of critical successes in recent years, most notably with Contra 4 on the DS and A Boy and His Blob on the Wii.

I hate the televison show....Batman was better serious than funny but in this game it almost makes fun of seriousness which is kinda sad...hopefully the game will be good but ya know....I have to say....kinda doubting it will.

I agree with games as well.

I find the show itself to be a rather refreshing hark back to the 50's and 60's comics. However the very fact that the game is just on Wii and DS indicates that it will be absolute crap.

Not saying this is gonna be a terrible game or anything, but after Arkham Asylum, this seems like a bad joke.

Yeah...instead of making something more like Arkham Asylum where you actually feel like you're playing as Batman, let's make a game based on the piss poor Brave and Bold cartoon. If they're going to make one based off a cartoon, atleast use the Animated Series where Batman is more like the Dark Knight rather than Adam West style.

A crap game based off a crap series..awesome?

Regardless of whether this is a 'kiddie' game or not, my 7-yr old and I tried this series out when it first started, gave it like 4 episodes. Neither of us were into it. Reminds me too much of the Super Friends, which was fine in its day and what it was going for. But good luck to this...it's foolish to even compare this to Arkham Asylum by the way. Apples and oranges...

Lol at you grown ups thinking, ''AWW KIFFY GAMEZ, FAIL!'' Seriously.

this is a design that distorts the true story of Batman. I think that after the Batman: The Animated Series was not produced anything of quality, with the exception of the last two films for director Christopher Nolan and the game Arkhan Asylum

Wii and DS stink and this game will put a just revived videogame character to shame.

See, this is exaclty why no one takes 3rd parties seriously on Wii. They make kiddy games that wont sell instead of making decent mature games that would sell if they advertize them. There are plenty of mature hardcore games on Wii, i guess this wont be one of them.

they need more co-op characters... this show is all about teaming up, and already features a huge roster of heroes and villains in mid season two, so it could be quite enjoyable in the same vein as the show ... but they need more coop characters.... GL is good, but if they add more playable characters than the other two obvious sidekicks, and I 'd probably slum it to this wii title. and bat-mite is pretty good ... not better than his superman counterpart, Mxyzptlk , but still definitely a good choice for a playable character... I'd like to see aquaman, green arrow, the red hood (the good joker from the alternative universe in season one ep) ... other obvious ones like plastic man, wildcat, fate, the question, booster gold, firestorm, etc. sure seem like the sort of characters that would please the fans of the show. heck every episode is basically an excuse to put batman in a new outfit, so I hope to see some of those like the GL suit batman, or the alt-verse batmen from eps like the sherlock holmes one, too. And @ blueFlameBat -- I agree, plasticman is annoying, but some people love him... And I thjink aquaman is pure gold... If anything, I like the show as a sort of light-hearted justice league that always focuses on batman (as all good JL stories should), and features a sort of loving homage to the "POW" "BOOM" and "BANG" 's, and cheesey "sending you away to prison" lines from the old 60's live-action batman show

I love the cartoon and hope the game does it justice. I'm wasn't too optimistic at first, but WayForward has a pretty good pedigree for Wii and DS development.

How about "Batman: the Brave and the Bold, Battling and Beating up the Belligerent and Bellicose Badguys: we can call it "B to the eighth power"!

@madmax21st: That is cause you never abbreviate U+S+A, but USA. By same logic, this is BBB and as any algebra student will tell you, xyz = x*y*z, so BBB = B*B*B = B cubed. Elementary, it is.

Nice catch on the bad math. Also I strongly believe it will be a bad game. I mean WTF?! As soon as you say lets make this game for WII and DS it triggers an idiots response of LETS KIDDY IT ALL! Look at Batman Arkham Asylum. It is kick ass. Batman The Brave and Bold was it? The cartoon version not the DARK KNIGHT adaptation... I feel like we would end up playing the old school 2P games where you side scroll and punch...

Failed math, have we? B+B+B =/= B cubed = B*B*B.

Hopefully it's similar to Arkham Asylum. Probably won't be because it's co-op, but it should have some stealth and tricky problems rather then just a beat em up.

I get the feeling this game would be like those Lego games. A bunch of characters with special abilities tailored to specific situations. At least with WayForward at the helm, there is a chance it wont just be a crappy license game.

Contra 4 and Boy and his Blob? Wayforward Studios seems like it has a credible tack record. I hope it turns out fun but Im not expecting too much out of this game yet.

Wouldn't Brave and Bold be B-Squared and not B-Cubed...I'm just sayin'. lol

I am curious about this one. I can see why some don't like the series, but I do like it in a different sort of way. To me, it just goes to show how flexible Batman (as a character) is and can be. He has a dark side, a funny side, and a campy side. All of these seem to work pretty well IMO. Personally, I like the dark side, but can appreciate his multi-facet characteristics.

If you're looking for a good Batman game on the Wii check out the GC game Batman: Vengeance. It got the look and feel of BtAS down pat, and had some decent gameplay to boot.

I'm pretty sure Batman the Animated Series is the only Batman cartoon worth watching. I think it's one of the greatest series ever.

Oh well the kiddies will have a more friendly batman game on the Wii and DS, While the 360,ps3 and (possibly) PC will have the darker,Grittier batman game in Arkham Asylum 2 this year so i guess it'll work out for both demographics.

LtReviews
LtReviews

@mariostar I'm not saying this is going to be a kiddie game (haven't seen any gameplay footage yet), but it is obvious that Batman is being toned down for a younger audience. It makes sense, because most people buying Batman games are buying the rated T game "Arkham Asylum". The wii cannot compete with the xbox 360 and PS3 in that field. Instead, the decision was to target a demographic of batman fans who may not have played Arkham Asylum -because of it's rating or because they only own a wii- which is a younger group of players. So is this going to be toned down so it is more appealing to a younger, more profitable audience? Of course. But saying that isn't the same thing as saying it's going to be a bad game or that the wii is the console version of the kiddie-pool. Besides, Robin is in it (bleh!)

BlueFlameBat
BlueFlameBat

WayForward Studios has done some great work on games like Shante and Sabrina The Animatated Series, but from what I've seen, I don't want anything to do with The Brave and the Bold, especially if Aquaman and Plastic Man are in it. That's right, I think Plastic Man is annoying!! You got a problem with that?!!!

This could be good, but the majority of the general gaming population will end up tossing it off as a "kid's game" merely because it's rated E. Yes I'm making a point, try to prove me wrong. :x
