Batman: Arkham Origins bug fixes coming "within the next week"

Warner Bros. apologizes for the many reported issues players have experienced, but help is on the way.

by

In a press release today, Warner Bros. apologized for the widespread issues that many players have experienced while playing Batman: Arkham Origins. A patch should be available "within the next week" for all platforms, and it will address the three most widespread bugs players have reported:

  • Inability to continue the story from the main menu.
  • FreeFlow Focus mode not unlocking upon reaching “Shadow Vigilante” rank 3
  • Infinite falling/falling out of world (the fix should push you back to your previous save, allowing you to progress).

Specific to the PC, a bug preventing players from navigating through the vent in the Burnley tower has already been patched and is available now.

For the Xbox 360 version of the game, bugs related to corrupted saves and ongoing crashes/freezing are still being investigated, and they will not be fixed by next week's patch. To temporarily bypass the crashes, Warner Bros. recommends 360 players disconnect their console from the Internet while playing.

I'm still warning anybody, who's considering to buy this game on Xbox 360. Warner Bros. did NOT investigate in the issue of CORRUPT SAVE files! -- I started playing it again a few weeks ago and the corrupt save hit me for the second time after more than 30% story. And I really took care, not to switch off while the game saves.

I am going to get this game. Yeah, I read the reviews and although the consensus from the mainstream gaming website said it was lackluster, I am still going to get the game. I enjoyed the series, and I am going to conclude the saga by playing this one. So I am hoping once all of the bugs will kink out once I buy the game.

Question:

Will you support Warner Montreal if they announce a new Batman game in the future?

An apology is nice and all but some companies give free gifts when they mess up this badly. I'll accept their apology when they give us all a free Batman rabbit cowl skin (from Arkham City), a Batman Infinite Crisis nightmare skin (not the Worst Nightmare skin already in the game, but the vampire one from the comics), or both.

So glad  I decided to back up my save file, because I'm near the end of the story and it finally crashed while saving... aka corrupted the save file. But now I'm all paranoid that it's gonna crash and corrupt now. Hopefully they get that fixed. Oh and the combat challenges or whatever... are they not unlocking for anyone else? Or do you seriously have to do them in order?

Great game in my opinion, just as good and fun as Asylum and City, but way too many bugs and issues... Did they test it at all? My game crashes almost every time I enter a building and there have been quite a lot of weird glitches, so far nothing really bad though...

I am playing on wii U and never had any bugs yet, still early in the game so who knows.

It's ironic that I clicked on this news story to read about Arkham Origins' bug fixes and there is a 404: Not Found error on what's supposed to either be an ad or picture.

But getting back to the game, I've seen issues where you can't grapple onto the roof of some buildings but you can reach that roof by gliding from a higher nearby rooftop. I've also seen issues where batman can't climb on top of a object like an A/C unit or vent but he can on other rooftops. Those should be fixed too.

Good, the Tower bug was a game killer.

I've had a few minor bugs with the game, but alas the game has crashed on me perhaps 10 times in my first playthrough (Xbox 360 version).

The bugs in the game should warrant a few points deduction, after all when games are rushed to market and are released broken to the public it is wrong. This being said, however, I still enjoyed the game. Other reivews seem to mention over and over the bridge section connecting the 2 areas and how you have to traverse it over and over and how this detracts from the overall score. Point is you can fast travel from fairly early on from both the north section of the map and the south section (if you spend a few minutes unlocking it), and other than a few in game and side missions you never really have to use the bridge.

Bugs can be a make-or-break for some people though. If I enjoy the content enough I am often willing to look past them. Ultimately they are a sigh of bad programming and / or rushing the product to market. Bioshock Infinite was delayed and when it was released it was about perfect. Perhaps Watch Dogs will be clean and shiny in '14 when it is released.

AO was much fun however and I'm not even a Batman fan. I think it objectively deserves more than a 3.5 (cough jim sterling).

This game is absolutely broken. I have the PS3 version, and the framerate is abysmal. Without a doubt, the worst framerate stability I've seen in any console release. No exaggeration. This release is buggier than PS3 Skyrim ever was. It doesn't matter if I remove the patch, play with the PS3 offline, etc. I've tried everything and nothing works. It's simply broken. Under zero circumstance should the game have shipped in its current condition. Inexcusable. Screw a patch, I'll be getting my money back. I've got games that actually work to be spending my money on.

Its been the buggiest game ive played in years. This is what i encountered during about 15 hours of play..

  • full game crashes
  • sound going out
  • screen going black
  • enemy turning invisible during boss fight
  • enemies dropping through the ground in the city
  • enemies shooting into the air after hitting them
  • me glitching through a wall during boss fight
  • the vent on the tower bug
  • "dolphin" glide bug
  • several glitches performing combat moves
  • final kill cam engaging when its not the final kill

Even though this game is still as fun to play as the previous ones (when everything works well).. it is a complete mess.

I've had SERIOUS issues with mine. It's frozen up COUNTLESS times, two corrupted saves causing me to start from the beginning, and glitch that prevents me from moving forward in the game. The 2 corrupted saves happened pretty close to the same point in the game after starting over.

Now after countless times of copying saves from hd to internal memory, I finally got everything there is to get in story mode. Started the game plus and made my way all the way too copperhead. The game glitched, and somehow I walk beyond the point where she fights through the next door. Now I cannot re-enter that room or progress further into the game.

But I would like to take this time to thank WB for putting out crap.

There was patch released yesterday (or 2-3 days ago, 1.02 in Europe, launchday was 1.01), but I can't find a list of fixes (from what I understand, it fixes FPS and clipping).

I've beat the game already and had no game breaking bug, only little clipping in cut-scenes and maybe 2 framerate drops. The only glitch I've had was enemy flying up and after that stuck in the wall, couldn't get him down or pwn with batarang, but I fixed it myself easy.

Great game.

Strangely enough, i finished the game whitout any problems, love it btw.

@meatz666 Yes.  Although the intro wasn't all I had hoped, Batman's origin was a fantastic storyline.  AND I wish they'd fix the fighting mechanics, like when I don't see anyone and I press attack it should automatically attack the person, because I've lost my combo so many times for that reason.

@Demimorg You can circumvent that bug with a bit of glitchcraft.

@AzureBonds76 yea i hate buggy launches as much as the most irate customers but I'd rather sites just mention it and not have it affect the score  We're at the point where it's almost shocking when a game launches soothly and most bugs get ironed out fairly fast on blockbuster titles.  developers{well more likely publishers breathing down their necks) know they can get away with it for a long time now, best to emphasie actual gameplay merits or truly bad game design that a patch won't fix.  Btw Pc version of Arkham City had almost non-functional{people without uber rigs, which is many} DX11 mode for a long time but Gamespot still scored it a 9 or a 10.

On the contrary, PS3 seems to be the only platform devoid of bugs.

@nerrsty138 It looks like it is like Skyrim - for some it works, for some it doesn't. I didn't have problems like that.

Zevvion
Zevvion

@nerrsty138 It runs fine on 360, but it does freeze sometimes. It froze for me about 4 or 5 times total now. And I got stuck in the geometry twice. It's not the best game technically, but it's playable.

meatz666
meatz666

@Talis12 I can even affirm: it's been years since I saw such a AAA bugged game (Elder Scrolls don't count :P). And to even make things worse, I considered B:AC such a polished game (the UI, the menus, the combat timing was almost "fighting game" level, sounds, voices) that it's strange to have a technically worse successor.

komuchen
komuchen

@CaptainBerserk The same. I've had more fun with it than AC. Plot is awesome, even though little disappointing with the Joker

AzureBonds76

@majin Maj I am playing it on the 360. Other than the freezes haven't run into any major bugs.

meatz666

@stev69 @meatz666 @Demimorg It's a MASTER work around. You use a glitch that shouldn't be there... to work around another glitch that shouldn't be there either!

@AzureBonds76 @CaptainBerserk @komuchen Hamill has retired as the Joker, so he wont be back. He was definitely a better Joker than Baker though, Bakers Joker was very flat for me. But id rather have another Arkham without Hamil than none at all.

komuchen
komuchen

@AzureBonds76 @CaptainBerserk @komuchen In my opinion, all the voices were pretty good, nothing god awful. Smith really sounds like younger Batman. Well, Joker is sometimes not Joker, but he's not bad, sometimes spot on, other just ok.

And Hamill said it was his last Joker. And there will be next-gen Batman, even Conroy said it unintentionally.

AzureBonds76
AzureBonds76

@CaptainBerserk @komuchen Anyone think the reason the main voice actors didn't reprise their roles is because they are working on the next gen version of Arkham ?

Either that, or Mark Hamil is working on the next Star Wars film (woot) :-)
