Details for the upcoming Batgirl-focused DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight have been revealed, along with the first in-game screen shot.

Delivered by Entertainment Weekly, the new information reveals Batgirl: A Matter of Family will be set before the events of 2009's Batman: Arkham Asylum, and features a team-up with Robin.

The crime-fighting duo collaborate to rescue Batgirl's father, Commissioner Gordon, who has been kidnapped by Joker.

The DLC has been created by Batman: Arkham Origins developer WB Montreal and is set in a new area called the Seagate Amusement Park. The environment features a nautical theme, but is built on top of an oil rig that--naturally--is rigged to be a death trap.

"We wanted to recreate the feeling of being trapped in a bizarre and unique environment playing a game of cat and mouse with the Joker," explained Justin Vazquez, designer of the DLC.

"Hacking is really what separates her from the other characters. It’s a gameplay mechanic with which the player can create situations for Batgirl to really shine," says Vasquez.

"Our intention was that Batgirl should be less powerful than Batman, but that Batgirl plus hacking could give her opportunities do things that not even Batman can pull off."

The DLC is described by its designer as a "love letter to the original game that started this incredible franchise."

Batgirl: A Matter of Family will be available from July 14 for season pass holders. It will be available for general purchase on July 21 for $6.99.

Warner Bros has only announced plans for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One editions of the DLC, and has not discussed a PC version.

The publisher has had a punishing two weeks, thanks to a litany of bugs discovered in the PC version. After apologising and announcing its intention extensively fix the numerous problems, Warner decided to pull the title from Steam.

Most recently, Warner Bros was accused to have known about Arkham Knight's PC Problems "for months", however these claims--purportedly from internal QA employees--are not proven.
