Balloon Fight floats onto Euro VC

Three more titles for this week's European Virtual Console, including Adventures of Lolo and Dead Moon.

by

It's Friday, which means another round of Virtual Console downloads becomes available for European Wii owners. First up this week is Balloon Fight, an arcade game originally released in 1984 and ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System in Europe in 1987. Players control a daredevil fighter with balloons on his back, and battle other enemies by popping the balloons on their backs to make them fall to the ground. There is also a two-player mode with both cooperative and competitive gameplay, and a survival game called Balloon Trip.

Next up is Adventures of Lolo, an NES game originally released in Europe in 1991. Taking control of the titular Prince Lolo, players are tasked with rescuing his beloved Princess Lala by solving a series of maze puzzles.

The final game available this week is former TurboGrafx-16 release Dead Moon, a side-scrolling action shooter from 1991. Gamers pilot a spaceship in a quest to thwart an alien invasion of planet Earth. Featuring six levels each with various bosses, Dead Moon lets gamers even the odds by upgrading their weapons and ships.

Balloon Fight and Adventures of Lolo are available for download for 500 Wii points (approximately £3.50), and Dead Moon for 600 Wii points (£4.20).

Nintendo, i cannot stress enough to you the importance of bringing us games that WE NEVER GOT FIRST TIME AROUND to the VC. Balloon Fight? I am sorry, it is a good game, but it was rewritten in flash with other features some time ago. for the last time give us Fire Emblem 3-5. sure reliving nostalgia is fun and all, but nothing is better than the exp of finding a game and frustrating yourself for the first time

Adventures of Lolo is one of those older games that is just too dang hard for me. Couldn't ever get past level 3.

Cool I suppose. Not earth shattering games though really are they.

There's a flash version of Balloon Fight which is arguably better.

Why are we getting so many crappy games latelly? Besides Diddy Kong's Quest we had no good games in a long time. Where are N64 games like Waverace, ISS64, Paper Mario or Mario Party? I'm tired of bad NES games all the time.

I have nothing to say about Balloon Fight, cause I haven't played it, but Lolo is a cute game!

PixyMisao > I thought it was a rip-off of joust too, as my dad loved that game (among other classics). But I still enjoyed Balloon fight more, because it also had adventure mode. They better release Balloon Fight here.

Hmm, I wonder when NA will get Adventures of Lolo? I remember playing that game years ago on my NES. I don't know if I ever made it past many of the early stages.

Am I the only one who thought Balloon Fight gameplay-wise was a rip-off of Joust?

Balloon Fight was one of my favourite first NES games and normally I;d buy a game like that, only thing is I've got it for free on Animal Crossing on GC...

I'll say this for Nintendo, they've definately got the pricing structure sorted, cheap console and nicely priced downloadable games... Microsoft could do worse than learn from this.
