Awesome Super Smash Bros-Themed 3DS System Launching in Europe

New bundle will include a custom-designed 3DS XL system and a copy of the new Super Smash Bros.

A custom-designed 3DS XL bearing the Super Smash Bros. logo and much of the upcoming game's roster will be released later this year, at least in Europe.

The system, which you can see above, features a slick black, white, and red design. It comes as part of a bundle that includes a digital copy of the new Super Smash Bros. for 3DS loaded onto the system. In Europe, the system does not include an AC adapter, which, while not a first for a 3DS XL system, is no less strange or unfortunate.

A price for the bundle has yet to be announced, but we do know it's coming to Europe on October 3 with the long-winded name of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS Limited Edition Pack.

We've contacted Nintendo of America to find out if this same bundle--or at least the beautiful-looking system--will make it to North America. We'll report back with anything we learn.

The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. launches on October 3 in North America and Europe, with a release of the Wii U version set to follow sometime later this year.

Will you be picking up (or importing, if need be) one of these new systems? Let us know in the comments.

It looks cool but the "Super Smash Bros." is a turn off, remove that and it looks cool to me ... they never put the name of the game on any other special edition why this one ? I have the Zelda theme one and I think looks better only because it isn't written "Zelda : A Link Between World" on it

That, actually looks kinda cool. I'm not a huge fan of the game/franchise (and I would prefer playing it on a console) but, it is fun. I have been thinking about getting a 3DS too.....

This looks actually pretty cool. Cool enough that I actually think about replacing my perfect working grey 3DS XL for it :O

If you did a system transfer, wouldn't the 3DS end up deleting the smash bros download?

I would like to get it since I still don't have a 3DS, but I prefer to get the game for the Wii U.

I kind of hate these special editions because I already bought Fire Emblem themed 3DS XL, but I also want some of these others but no way are they worth another 200€+. They should release some changeable skins, those could be fun

Huh, I might get it. It probably does, but I'll ask anyway just to be safe;
Does anyone know if the 3DS XL uses the same adapter as the standard 3DS?

This is a question i've had for years:

Why only in Europe or Asia?  Is there a US version only we get? I never get the reasoning behind this, all consoles do it, but why?

Looks sooo cool but I already have the blue standard 3DS XL with a 32GB for all of my games are digital and I'll stick to the original 3DS. Thanks anyway Nintendo.

Why is this not confirmed for North America release yet? I been waiting for this to be announced so I can preorder.

YES! YES! YES! I knew they'd do this! Now all Nintendo needs to do is make a Limited Edition Wii U! Awesome!

Edit: No AC Adapter? Why?

@00LiteYear Nope, I've done system transfers to new systems that had pre-installed software, and it was either still there or could be re-downloaded from the eShop after the transfer.  As far as I know, it only works with those that actually came with pre-installed software upon original purchase though.

@twisted_outlaw My guess would be because this is a convention located in Europe, so they focus on that market first sometimes. I believe the same thing happens at E3 and TGS; certain things are announced first for the particular market that the convention/trade show takes place in.

@pikachudude860  They are assuming that people would upgrade their original 3DS to 3DS XL, and to reduce the cost of the system itself.

@kirbyschick78 Did you have to account bind the new system so the installed game could be redownloaded before you did the system transfer?

kirbyschick78
kirbyschick78

@00LiteYear I've done it both ways with no issues in the past.  With the M&L Dream Team 3DS XL (NTSC), I did a system transfer immediately with no account set up, and after the transfer to the M&L system wiped Dream Team, I was able to redownload it from the eShop free of charge.  With my Japanese SMT IV system, I already had an account set up, but I was still able to re-download SMT IV after completing a system transfer from an Ambassador Japanese 3DS.

@kirbyschick78 Interesting. So as long as the 3DS wasn't registered then the installed game will be registered to the next account.

kirbyschick78
kirbyschick78

@00LiteYear  I can't guarantee it, but based on my past experience, it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the 3DS with the pre-installed software was previously registered.  I believe that pre-installed game should stay with the system to which it was originally tied regardless, though you will likely have to re-download the game from your Downloads list in the eShop.

00LiteYear
00LiteYear

@kirbyschick78 That would be a shame if it could only be downloaded from that 3DS and not be tied to the account. Otherwise, two 3DS with Smash Bros each would be the best. Were you able to get M&L Dream Team on your original 3DS as well?
