Big Huge Games, the Maryland-based studio headed by Civilization II designer Brian Reynolds, has announced that award-winning game designer Joseph Balkoski has joined the company. Balkoski has been designing board and computer games for more than 25 years, and he was named to the Charles S. Roberts Wargame Design Hall of Fame in 1989.

"As a longtime player of Joe's classic board games, I have incredible respect for his wealth of knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm for game design and history," Reynolds said. "His involvement with our design staff will add new levels of depth, historical authenticity, and fun to our game."

Balkoski most recently codesigned Waterloo. He is also a noted military historian, and he is best known for writing Beyond the Beachhead, an account of one military unit's experience in the 1944 D-Day invasion.
