Aussies to get Warhammer Online server

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning dated for spring 2008 release in Australia; dedicated server promised.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning--EA's upcoming stab at the masive MMO market World of Warcraft dominates--has finally been dated down under. EA reps have confirmed to GameSpot AU that the game will ship in Australia at the same time as its North American and European release, which at this stage is dated as Spring 2008.

And in even brighter news for local MMO buffs, EA says Aussies will be treated to their own dedicated server, which will be hosted locally. Players, however, will still be able to connect to North American servers should they wish to.

EA Mythic associate producer Josh Drescher told GameSpot AU that an Australian server had long been planned. "We wanted to make sure that in terms of localisation and offering support for players around the world, that we try and give as many people as possible home turf servers to use. And the Australian fans were actually extremely vocal early on in the process. It's been something we've wanted to do for quite some time, and when we were bought by EA it became something that was a lot more viable for us, so we're very excited to get some dedicated servers over there."

To clear any confusion up, this quote is directly from Warhammer's website in the interview. "PLEASE NOTE: Some of our interviews have stated that WAR will launch in Australia in Spring of 2008. That's because Australia's Spring is America's Fall. We still plan to launch in the US's Fall of 2008, and as stated above, the Australian launch will happen at the same time."

Excuse me..."spring 2008"? Um...unless they are planning to release retroactively in Australia.....it seems to me we are now in the month of May 2008 heading for summer 2008. Are you saying spring 2009? And the word Massively...is how its spelled, not familiar with "masive" One more thing...IS IT POSSIBLE for you "journalists" to talk about an upcoming new game release without chanting the Wow mantra in the next breath? I realize most of you are brainwashed beyond repair...but just the same if I am reading about Warhammer...I AM READING ABOUT WARHAMMER not Wow....grrr /rant off

Warhammer > Wow

That is soo cool! They better hold true on that promise. The one thing that annoyed me when I use to play WoW was the lag. It was fine and wasn't a bother when doing PvE, but gosh was it a pain in the *** when doing PvP. Timing is so important, especially if you're a rogue. Not being able to time your stuns and specials was a real handicap.

If you think about it. Every month Blizzard get 10 million X 10 US dollars. Thats 100,000,000 million dollars a month revenue (which is actually a tonne heigher becuase i used the lowest amount you can pay which is 1 payment for 6 months. And they say they cant put us a few oceanic servers??? Hopefully mthic live up to this and show Blizz it is possible And yes guys. In AUS we are in autumn right now heading to winter. You should know that :S Our christmas is in summer.

Wow, this is really going to endear a lot of Oceanic fans to Warhammer Online. Now if the game is half decent, Blizzard might have a problem in losing a section the fan base that they've treated poorly for so long. I mean, if Mythic can run Oceanic servers from day one, what excuse does the extremely wealthy Blizzard/Activision have?
