Introduction

The Wii U is a brand new console from Nintendo. It features a new controller: the Wii U GamePad, a bundled touchscreen tablet, and the system will work with your existing Wii remotes and accessories. The console will be sold in two configurations: a basic kit and a premium pack. Considering picking one up when it goes on sale this Friday, November 30? Read on to find out where to get the best local bargains, which retailers are opening for midnight launches, and which launch software is worth your time and money.

The Wii U basic model.

Bundles

The Wii U basic model pack will come with the following:

  • 8GB white console
  • Wii U GamePad
  • AC adapter
  • HDMI cable
  • Sensor bar.

The Wii U premium model.

The Wii U premium model pack will come with the following:

  • 32GB black console
  • Wii U GamePad
  • AC adapter
  • HDMI cable
  • Sensor bar
  • Console and GamePad stand
  • GamePad charging cradle
  • Nintendo Land.

The 8GB basic model carries a recommended retail price of AU$349.95.
The 32GB premium kit carries a recommended retail price of AU$429.95.

Where to buy

Retailer EB Games is offering the basic bundle at $348 and the premium bundle at $428.
Those who purchase the console at EB Games can pick up a copy of Rabbids Land, Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013, or Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth (out early December) for an additional $38.

JB Hi-Fi will be selling the basic bundle at $299 and the premium bundle at $399. According to the site, the prices are only available till Monday.

Customers who pre-order will also receive a starter pack, which includes a GamePad silicon glove, GamePad stylus and two screen protectors. Additionally, customers who order the Wii U online can also purchase one of the following games for $40 more in the same transaction:

Tekken Tag Tournament 2: Wii U Edition
Just Dance 4

K-mart is also selling the basic console bundle at $299 and the premium console pack at $379.

Big W will be selling the basic console pack at $298 and the premium pack at $378. Both packages also include a Wii U silicon glove.

Several gamers have also pointed out the use of the "XMASEDM20" promotional coupon in conjuction with the discounted price, takes a further $20 off the price of both bundles. This takes the Wii U basic pack to $278 and the premium pack to $358.

Target is offering the basic console pack bundled with Just Dance 4 for $349 and the premium console pack with Just Dance 4 for $429.

Dick Smith Electronics is selling the basic pack for $299. The premium pack is available for $419 and comes with a $20 Dick Smith gift card.

Midnight trading

Selected EB Games, K-mart and JB Hi-Fi stores will be open for midnight trading on November 29. More details on participating locations are listed here.

@superbuuman exactly!  I ordered mine from Big W Online...  $378 less $20 coupon (thanks Oz Bargain) so picked up the machine for $358 with FREE delivery!  Who cares for midnight launch!? :-)

All thanx to KMart, they were the first to price it at $379, after that everyone followed, late but still great. :) BigW now have the best deal in price. :P

 @Harrydapro Only games that made me buy a Wii... Thank god Zelda is not coming any time soon, otherwise I would buy Wii U at lauch price just for these two games!
