Aussie game charts: March 12-March 18

Final Fantasy XII holds onto top spot; Nintendo dominates overall top 10.

by

Final Fantasy XII has continued its strong run in the Australian game sales charts, taking out the top spot for the third week in a row.

The latest game in the role-playing franchise was the best seller in Australia for the week of March 12 to 18, according to figures from data trackers GfK Australia. In second spot was The Sims 2: Seasons, a position it has also occupied for the previous two weeks.

Coming in with a bullet this week was Sonic and the Secret Rings for the Nintendo Wii, which landed in at third spot. Nintendo had an extremely high turnout in this week's charts, with five out of the top 10 being games for the DS or the Wii.

im a bit late with this i know but god_yggdrasil how exactly are the charts dominated with dumb movie based title when the only one in the list is Happy Feet (and overall i think there are about 3 seeing as i dont count lego starwars otherwise you have to include just about any lucasarts game ever made as in being based off a movie) and Bratz might suck but it is marketed at the key demographic of a handheld console, 7-12 year olds. I think the fact that mario kart is still up the top should prove that when a great game does come out on ds it sells well. As for final fantasy VII, i wouldnt expect much less from someone who probably cant remember the playstation being released and was subject to a lot better quality of gaming by the time you were actually old enough to properly play games then us to had to bear with the playstations early years and all the testing programmers did going from sprite based to polygons. On a final note its amusing to see you go on about Shooters....the xbox hasnt actually had a good shooter yet, at least not by the way i use the word, F.E.A.R, Halflife 2, PREY for example were basically ports from PC and Gears of War GRAW, GRAW 2 arnt what i would call your classical shooters, more your tactical action/adventure game. having shooting doesnt necessarily make it a shooter. But anyway im sure you dont even care what i say, and im not sure i care for that matter hope you had a good time

Well it seems that mostly guys buy PSPs than girls do and girls buy DSs more than guys do.

Whats with brats dominating the DS thats plain weird. In response to your comment god_yggdrasil FFXII battle system is really good if you set your characters up properly, it saves alot of unnecessary button pressing and makes training up really easy. FFVII is not under rated while it may not stand up to modern games graphics wise, at the time of its release it was a revolution. Not only that the storyline, and level of character development has been enough to enthral millions. I see it as a game that will and has stood the test of time, and will definitely be introducing my children to it just as soon as they can us a controller.the messages contained within that game are undeniably true and the lessons taught by it will stick in my mind forever. lol I just realised this makes me sound really obsessed. Oh well the game is what it is.

the DS sales suck. all dominated by dumb, movie based games. and Bratz....how? how is that game even good? and FFXII....sry to say FFXII fans but i dislike it very much. i dont get how the battle system is any fun. i think its been a bit over-rated...reapeat of FFVII???(FFVII is really good, but it is the most over-rated game i've ever seen) i didnt expect hardly anything on this chart except 360 sales. 360 has had a lot of good shooters lately, im thinking about buying one.

this chart was from the 12th to the 18th. Ps3 launched on the 23rd. None of the are able to be even on the list.

The DS list makes me think that it's being heavily influenced by mainstream / casual gamers.

It's good to see a last gen game taking the top spot. When GoW2 is released over there, maybe we'll see a top spot repeat.

There seems to be a bit of FF XII interest, but a lot of simulation games like The Sims, Nintendogs and Pokémon in the list as well. Lots of simulations and RPG's or character building games that use experience points systems... One big exception is Xbox360, almost all FPS
