Aussie game charts: January 3-9

Nintendo dominates the first half of the charts Down Under, while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 holds strong against Bayonetta and Darksiders.

by

The week of January 3-9 was the first fully tracked seven-day sales period of the new year when it came to game sales in Australia, and it also saw 2010’s first triple-A titles get released. Interestingly, both failed to make it into the top five. Instead, Darksiders for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 took out the eighth and ninth places, respectively, while Bayonetta for the 360 landed at number 10.

The top spot Down Under went to Mario Kart Wii. Nintendo also holds the next four spots, with the likes of Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii filling the ranks. The only non-Nintendo and non-new release game to make it into the charts was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which took out the sixth and seventh spots, respectively.

Wow, PS3 Darksiders outsold the 360 version, is this a first for a PS3 to outsell 360 on a multiplatform title out here?

@ mimicus Im 39 married with two kids and I can tell you that I far prefer the Wii to either of the other systems. I've been gaming since the mid 70's when you could hook up a 'pong' console to your TV. If I am not 'hardcore' NOBODY is. There are many great games for the Wii, so stop spreading your FUD.

Wow! This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with all of those (non-Nintendo?) games that got banned/blocked, would it?

@Gelugon_baat The Nintendo Wii is clown shoes for children. Grown-ups play grown-up games. When you reach adulthood, you'll understand---I promise. That propaganda you're spreading is garbage. Video games don't cause dysfunction; neglect and bad parenting do. Don't believe everything you read.

It's a shame Boyonetta hasn't been selling so hot, it's actually a really cool game with lots of challenging action and a solid combat system that runs fluidly, and very cheesy and over the top in quite an amusing way. I'm surprised that with the great reviews it's getting that it's still not selling better.

Bayonetta is such a great action game. But I think the developers took a wrong move with the protagonist and the release date.
