Aussie game charts: January 18-24

The sequel to 2009's best-selling game makes it to the top of the charts for the first time this year.

Aussie consumers gave a lot of love to Nintendo games last week. Mario Kart--which had been number one for the past two weeks--was dethroned in favour of another House of Mario favourite, the Wii Fit Plus bundle, at the top of the Australian sales charts, according to data trackers GfK Australia.

The games that make up the rest of the game charts this week remains the same as the previous week, albeit slightly shuffled around. Darksiders on the PlayStation 3 moved down to number nine, paving the way for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox 360 and PS3 to climb up into the eighth and sixth spots, respectively. The only games that didn't change spots were Just Dance at number seven and Army of Two: The 40th Day closing off the week at number 10.

@ Humorguy_basic As an Aussie and PC Gamer, every fellow PC gamer I know buys games on steam/ebay/Import. No one buys them from the shops counted in these rankings.

Good to see Nintendo doing well.

Re: The PC charts - take out all the SIms and WoW games/expansions from the chart - then take out the 2005 Age of Empires III (what's that all about!) and what have you got? One game: Modern Warfare 2. Is this the state of PC gaming in Australia? The Sims, WoW and 5 year old games?! As a 20 year plus PC gamer, I am sad. Very sad.

Avatar the game is not terrible guys, it is just mediocre and average. They probably really liked with the movie and thought the game would be amazing too. By the way, am I the only one sick and tired of seeing Nintendo at the top 3 spots every time? Nothing against Nintendo, but how about Microsoft or Sony for a change, they got good games worth buying too.

It's kinda stupid how many people are buying the avater game when it was terrible. Just shows ya that people buy whatever looks good on the cover. Ya know what? When the new Batman movie comes out, I should just throw together a piece of crap game and it'll sell big. lol

I wouldn't mind seeing the top ten sellers for individual consoles in all regions. Might put a stop to those false beliefs that third party games don't sell on Wii. @BigBacon87 A movie tie-in game outselling a game based on a new IP is not surprising at all. Remember that most game purchasers don't read reviews.

It will be interesting to see what Mass Effect 2 does to the charts in February.

I think it's funny that the GfK Australia doesn't actually release any sales figures ever, just the ranking of titles, they have on occasion in the past release some sales figures, but that sometimes results in ridicule of Australian gamers, I mean it wouldn't surprise me if Mario Kart took the #1 spot only having to sell some 5,000 copies.

Yea Bayonetta just didn't do it for me and I love games like that. I still think Ninja Gaiden 2 has done it the best so far on the 360. Dantes Inferno seemed promising from the demo I played. It might be better then Ninja Gaiden because it appears to have a pretty good story as well.

I think it's hilarious that Avatar is outselling Bayonetta. Darksiders getting love is just gravy. Bayonetta blows.
