Aussie game charts: December 4-10

Two Wii titles bookend top 10 game sales charts; Twilight Princess takes No. 1 spot.

The Nintendo Wii launched in Australia December 7, and the latest sales charts from data trackers GfK Australia show that the system made an immediate impact on Australia's game sales charts.

Sales charts for the week of December 4 to December 10 show that the latest Zelda adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, grabbed the No. 1 position in the overall sales charts. Games for Nintendo's new system actually bookended the list of best sellers, as Ubisoft's Red Steel landed in 10th position.

The strong Wii debut wasn't enough to break the PlayStation 2's grip on the charts, however, with six of the top 10 belonging to Sony's console. EA's Need for Speed Carbon and THQ's WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 for the PS2 continued to perform strongly, securing second and third position, respectively. The Sims 2: Pets for PC and Gears of War for the Xbox 360 were the only other non-PS2 inclusions. Gears of War slipped four spots to seventh place for the week.

Other notable titles for the Wii during its debut week in Australia included Rayman Raving Rabbids, Super Monkey Ball, and Call of Duty 3, which took third, fourth, and fifth spots in the Wii-specific charts. While GfK Australia did not actually disclose the name of the 10th best-selling Wii game due to limited availability at retailers, the only Australian launch titles not named in the top 10 were Barnyard, GT Pro Series, Madden NFL 07, Monster Truck 4x4, Open Season, and Splinter Cell Double Agent.

All people in Australia should be very happy!!!!!

GO!!!!! LOZ AND RED STEEL!!!!!, YOU BOTH OWN ALL!!!!! Myles Blasonato.

I was lucky to get the one of last Wii's before xmas. My local EB is getting 25 consoles on the 22nd :D EVERYWHERE ELSE ARE SOLD OUT!!

Intersting. Good update.

its a good time for gamers in australia:)

The top 4 of wii i wanna get. Dont annoy me over grammer. Its like 36 degrees today which is really hot. And my legs hurt.

The reason other games didn't rate higher than Red Steel for Wii is that you just could buy many of the other titles, they just were not available for purchase. One of the big JB stores I went to, told be they only got 4 copies of Raving Rabids and were not likely to get more till 22 Dec 06. Seems scarcity Nintendo propriety format DVDS made it dificult for suppliers to burn more games.

Of course LoZ:TP is first =p

loz i still say ppl should play it at a moderate pace

I just wanna know how Red Steel got #2 in the Wii section. That game was WAY over hyped for what it delivered.

God everybody owns Zelda, even the people who dont own Zelda own Zelda. (Dont be a prick and ask me wut that is suppose to mean)
