Aussie emulation mash-up June 8, 2011

The Australian winter probably means you want to stay indoors, so you don't even need to leave the house these days to get new games, thanks to downloadable platforms. The PlayStation Network Store takes the lead this week with the most releases, ranging from new titles to old PlayStation classics. The biggest new release comes from Sony Computer Entertainment America and is essentially a modern-day take on the classic arcade game, Rampage. Appropriately titled Eat Them!, the game sees players creating their own monsters before stomping around (and on) an open city. On top of the standard mode, you can join up with a friend for some co-op destruction or play for high scores in Challenge mode.

Other titles that were released on the PlayStation Network this week include Sega Rally Online Arcade, which was previously released on Xbox Live Arcade during the PSN outage, Alien Zombie Megadeath, Gex: Deep Cover Gecko, and Cohort Chess.

On Xbox Live Arcade, there's Deadliest Warrior: Legends, a follow-up to the last year's fighting game based off of the popular TV show of the same name. The game retains its core fighting mechanic, with the focus this time around being on famous fighters like William Wallace and Genghis Khan.

If you prefer to direct the fighting from afar, then perhaps the second big XBLA title for the week, Dead Block, is the game for you. This one blends genres a bit, but essentially it's a tower defense game that's played out from a third-person perspective. You get to choose one of three characters and run around the map setting up traps for the zombies to unwittingly walk through.

Finally, it's time to look at Nintendo, which is suffering from another quiet week across its multiple digital storefronts. On the 3DS Virtual Console, punters can pick up Qix, while Dragon's Lair makes its way onto yet another platform; this time being released on the DSiWare.
