August - A Fine Time To Upgrade

Intel prepares to drop prices on all Pentium chips.

Seems like all the new games that are coming out need a Ferrari engine to run at the speed gamers want. Upgrading a PC has been a costly process of getting a new processor and then making sure that the motherboard will accept it.

Well, getting that Ferrari engine in a PC will get a little easier come August 1st when Intel reduces prices on its entire line of microprocessors. If you're still on a 486, you can get one of the non-MMX chips up to the 133MHz for under US$100. For the price of two games people can either upgrade an older Pentium or, for a little more, step up to a Pentium II MMX. No one can complain with these new prices.

Here's a listing of what to expect:

Pentium 166: $88Pentium 200: $95

MMX Pentiums166 MHz: $138200 MHz: $237233 MHz: $369Pentium II 300MHz: $825
