AU Shippin' Out October 10-14: PES '12, Forza 4

It's another big week for video game releases Down Under.

It's time to divide video game soccer fans this week with the release of Pro Evolution Soccer 12. It arrives just weeks after EA Sports' FIFA Soccer 12, and it's now Konami's turn to have a stab at the sporting games market. The refinements this year are more subtle than usual, with tweaks being made to the AI, animations, and physics.

This week also sees Microsoft take another swing at Sony's Grand Turismo empire, sending Forza Motorsport 4 out to retail. The game makes use of Microsoft's Kinect sensor, not just allowing you to race hands free, but also implementing it into the new Autovista mode. Here, players will be able to get a highly detailed look at certain vehicles in the game, and if they use the Kinect, they'll be able to gesture closing doors and opening bonnets to interact with their virtual mechanical beasts.

Forza Motorsport 4 isn't the only game to feature mechanical masterpieces this week, as Ace Combat: Assault Horizon takes to the sky. While there's bound to be lots of corny Top Gun quotes being thrown around via Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network, this entry in the series marks the first time that players can also pilot attack helicopters. Another new addition to the series is close-range assault, which, when initiated, brings the camera close to the plane and allows players to blast away at the enemy.

For all the kids out there who are too young to get the grasp of flying planes or driving performance vehicles, big-kid-at-heart Tim Schaffer has a game for the littlies: Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster. This one's been designed from the ground up for the Kinect and is divided up into minigames that attempt to teach children as they play the game. Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster isn't just for the youngsters, with Schaffer previously saying that his goal was to create a game that can be fun for parents and kids alike.
