AU Shippin' Out Nov. 21-24: Skyward Sword
Nintendo is out in force this week, with Zelda and Mario leading the charge.
It has been four long years since there has been a new Zelda adventure on the Wii, but that's about to change this week with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Debuting at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Skyward Sword is actually a prequel to Ocarina of Time and sets the scene for what is one of the most iconic games in history. It's mandatory to play the game with a Wii MotionPlus controller, and waving the Wii Remote around plays a big part during the combat components of the game. While the regular game retails for A$99.95, select retailers like EB Games are offering a special-edition pack, which includes the game, a Zelda-themed Wii Remote Plus controller, and a music CD. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword limited edition is slightly more expensive, going for A$119.95.
Link isn't the only Nintendo mascot to be let out this week, as Mario makes his Nintendo 3DS debut. Super Mario 3D Land blends 2D platforming with the ability to move Mario around in multiple directions, making for a game that gives a nod to both the old Mario games and the new ones. It wouldn't be a Mario game without Peach getting kidnapped, and fans will be pleased to see that the tanooki suit makes a transition over to the portable console.
In other non-Nintendo-related releases this week, THQ's popular licensed wrestling franchise gets a reboot with WWE '12. This year, the game boasts a new engine, and there's a bigger focus on re-creating an experience akin to the TV broadcasts. The animations have also been reworked, and the submission system has been changed from button mashing into a new minigame.
This week also sees two previously released games expanding their platform base, with Batman: Arkham City expanding its war on crime to the PC, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 deploying to the Nintendo Wii.
