AU Shippin' Out May 13-17: Metro: Last Light
The theme is horror for gamers this week, with the release of Metro: Last Light and Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut.
Metro: Last Light is a post-apocalyptic shooter set during the year 2034. Mutants lurk in underground catacombs following a worldwide disaster, and humanity finds itself waging war against itself to gain control of a doomsday device.
Like its predecessor Metro 2033, gamers will once again be able to access a variety of improvised weapons to fend off the mutant hordes and rival factions.
The game will emphasise both survival horror and first-person shooter gameplay, with scarce ammunition and firearms.
The game's competitive multiplayer component was dropped by developer 4A games in favour of focusing on the single player campaign. A Wii U version of the game was also planned, but cancelled early in development.
Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut is an updated take on 2010's Deadly Premonition. The Director's Cut includes new controls, HD graphics, support for the PlayStation Move, and additional scenes. Game director Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro has also announced plans for post-launch DLC.
The original game notably never made its way down under, as publisher Rising Star Games did not submit it for classification in Australia. The publisher decided internally that the game would not satisfy the criteria for the highest possible rating at the time (MA15+) without additional changes. Australia has since introduced an R18+ classification rating for video games.
Other titles out this week include Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity for the 3DS, and the free-to-play DUST 514. For more details on games out this week, check out the full list below.
