AU Shippin' Out June 28-July 2: Super Mario Galaxy 2, Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4
Nintendo's mascot returns to space, while a squarer version of Mr. Potter and Activision's time-shifting shooter also make their debut.
The magic and clamour of E3 may be over for another year, but there's still plenty to be excited about on the Aussie software release front. Kicking things off Down Under is Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy 2, the sequel to 2007's galactic platformer that sees players take control of a mobile planet called Starship Mario and embark on a wide variety of challenging puzzles in the hunt for star bits. To celebrate the game's Aussie release, Nintendo will host a hugging competition at the Swanston Street EB Games store this Thursday in Melbourne, where the publisher will try to beat the current world record for the most hugs by a mascot character by asking gamers to hug Mario as many times as possible during the game's official launch. Super Mario Galaxy 2 received a perfect 10 score from GameSpot and will be released this Thursday, July 1, on the Wii.
Magic fans can also rejoice this week with the release of Traveller's Tales' Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4. The block-tastic adventure will see players guide Harry, Ron, and Hermione through their formative years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Unlike in previous Lego titles, the emphasis here will be on collecting and exploring, as well as casting a variety of spells that players must unlock as they progress through the game. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is coming to the PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, DS, PSP, and PC this Wednesday, June 30.
Those with a hankering to shoot something will get their chance when Activision releases the sci-fi first-person shooter Singularity this week. Developed by Wisconsin-based Raven Software on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3, the shooter combines gun-toting action with time-bending supernatural powers that will allow players to go back and forward in time and manipulate gravity. Singularity is out on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on Wednesday, June 30.
Finally this week, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2011 is arriving on the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii this Thursday, July 1. The game will feature the Ryder Cup tournament for the first time in the franchise's history, as well as a 24-player online multiplayer mode.
Keep an eye on AU Shippin' Out in the following weeks for more end-of-E3-blues-bustin' titles.
