AU Shippin' Out April 8-12: Defiance

Experimental game Defiance will be coming to Australian shores this week; how the game plays out will influence the connected television show.

Experimental third-person multiplayer shooter game Defiance will this week be released in Australia on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The open world, multiplatform MMO shooter is based on a science-fiction universe interconnected with a television show of the same name.

To be aired on television network Syfy from April 15, the Defiance television show pledges to change its storyline based on what players get up to in the game.

The Defiance game will influence what happens in the television show.

Defiance takes place on a futuristic Earth, transformed by a world-wide terraforming event. The game is set in the San Francisco Bay Area, whereas the TV series will take place in St. Louis.

To accompany the announcement developer Trion Worlds also released a full-length Join the Fight live action trailer, which shows the game's Ark Hunters fighting enormous antagonistic crustaceans known as Hellbugs.

Trion Worlds is no stranger to the massively multiplayer online genre, having released MMORPG Rift to positive reception in 2011. For more on Defiance, check out GameSpot’s interview with the developers.

Fantastic game, well worth a play around. Value for money.... 100s of hours of game play for a pittance of the price of your normal fps like COD or MOH (that only give you 5 hours of game play) and with a social network as well. As it is only the release of the game I strongly believe in time they will make it even better.

EDIT: For all you fps fanboys that are gonna get their knickers in a knot over the 4  - 5 hour gameplay comment, I am referring to the SINGLE PLAYER STORY, if you do not wish to play WITH anyone and just enjoy the missions and game itself as the story there is 100s of hours in Defiance where as in COD and MOH most titles the single player is done in 4 - 5 hours.

I don't know why the article claims the game be released this week. It has been out on PSN since Thursday.

This a good game. It really has gone under the radar. I have been playing it all weekend with three other mates since its release. Breaks up the "been there done that" feel of most MMOs.

This game is just a straight copy of Borderlands from the weapons to the enemies, only more boring. Besides, the show isnt even out yet so the special feature of having an episode from the show playable in the game isnt available, so best option is to either skip this game or wait till its cut down half price.

@superbuuman their is a box price but the game is f2p with dlc in the future that will build on the show and alter the game

@Kaz32

Its similiar to borderlands, yes. But how is that a bad thing? Its like playing borderlands but with an unlimited number of people.

Third person shooter Borderlands without variety. Saw the playthrough and this is what it feels like. The quests, character and story are generic, the enemy ai provides no challenge, graphic is unappealing, the gameplay is exactly like Borderlands from the weapons that needs to be constantly changed which makes no sense since they are all the same, so why not just have 1 specific guns since the beginning and to make the weapons stronger have the weapons as customizable with damage multipliers and such, the numbers that comes out of the enemy when they got hit, the enemies are all copy pasted from Borderlands from Psychos as cleavers, that grenade launching dude that looks like Brick, and the bugs that are like the bugs in Borderlands. The feature where the episodes in the tv show will be implemented into the game is not out yet until next week, so there's no point in buying full $90 for this game that I know I'll get bored with. Also I'm now playing Dark Souls, and I'm going to finish this, Ninja Gaiden 3 Razors Edge and Resident Evil 6 for PC, 3 great games better than a stale third person Borderlands.

Dont lie. level 350? Thatll take 1 year to do. dont you mean level 35? Slight weapon customizations, ok i give the game that, but the fact remains that the guns you get in the beginning is weaker than any other weapons that you acquire in the games later. you must have gotten 10+ lmg thats the same as you have right now and a lot better too, and the only way to progress further in the game is to constantly change weapons, just like in Borderlands.

I live in Australia. In here this game is $90 so I am careful about buying games.

not saying the game is shit. Just saying right now as a first impression its not good. The story quest is just monotonous shoot this shoot that, more interesting to just watch the show because this prequel is just generic, and its overpriced. If its released with the tv episodes then itll be an interesting mmo, but right now its just a borderlands esque game with almost everything like it, and its $90. Not worth the money and im pretty sure I'll get bored after 2 hours playing. Rather just wait till the price is cut down in half.

So you're saying this game is shit and you haven't played it? I'm not going to waste my breath and pick apart what you just said.... But, if you had actually played the game you'd know weapons are customizable. I've been using the same LMG since level 1 one. I'm now level 350. Mmm so my friend do a little research before you bag a product. Secondly the game is 60 not 90. Thirdly, all the story quests are prequel to the show. And there is a heap of them.
