This week sees the launch of eagerly anticipated open-world stealth game, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Developed by Kojima Productions, the game will be released for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on September 1.

Publisher Konami is dubbing the title as "Game of the Year--Guaranteed." The claim isn't without credence, as the Phantom Pain scored a ten out of ten in GameSpot's review and was well-received by many other critics.

The game is a sequel to 2014's Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, which served as a stand-alone prologue to The Phantom Pain. Chronologically, the story of Metal Gear Solid V takes place before the events of the first Metal Gear Solid game and is the first to bring an open world to the series. The Phantom Pain will also have a companion app which allows players to use their phone as a screen to look at an in-game map, and listen to unlocked music.

Those who pre-ordered a collector's edition of the game on PS4 may find that some downloadable content codes are missing from the package--not to worry though, as Konami has stated that the codes will make their way to customers "on receipt or via email."

If you'd rather go blazing through the desert in a car made into a killing machine, Mad Max hits the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and last-generation consoles this week. The PlayStation 4 version of the game unlocks some timed exclusive content, including some hood ornaments for the player's car. Those looking to pick the game up on PC can check out the system requirements here.
