Attack on Titan season 2 will begin airing in Spring 2017, it has been revealed. The first season of the popular anime series ended in 2013, and despite its huge success, news on the follow-up has been slow to arrive.

According to CrunchyRoll, the announcement was made during the Tokyo International Forum, where the cast of Attack on Titan and Attack on Titan Junior High gathered for an Attack Festival live-reading event.

Since then the official Japanese Twitter account for the Attack on Titan anime has confirmed the news.

Wit Studio, which worked on the first season of Attack on Titan and recently wrapped up season one of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress will return for the second season. Tetsuro Araki will now serve as chief director, with Masashi Koizuka moving up from episode director to overall director.

The next Attack on Titan video game, meanwhile, is being developed by Omega Force, the team behind the Dynasty Warriors series. It is based on the first season of the anime and allows players to use the 3D manoeuvre gear.

Attack on Titan was first announced at Gamescom 2015. It is scheduled for release in North America and Europe in August 2016.
