ATI Technologies announced Friday that its new Microsoft-certified TURBO driver for its Rage Pro graphics chip has pushed it to the top of the graphics pack in terms of performance.

The Rage Pro, rechristened the Rage Pro TURBO, has a 40 percent increase in performance for 3D performance in ATI's XPERT@Play, XPERT@Work, and the All-In-Wonder Pro PCI and AGP video boards. ZD Winbench 98 numbers for the boards and chips give it 560 Winmarks in the 3D test under Windows 95 and 167 Winmarks in the 2D Winbench '98 test under Windows NT 4.0. This places the chip as the fastest among 2D, 3D, and video accelerators with Microsoft-certified drivers.

ATI will be shipping the drivers with all compatible boards as of February 6 and will post the drivers on its web site starting on March 15.

"Our RAGE PRO TURBO chip, the XPERT@Play, XPERT@Work, and All-In-WonderPro offer the best combination of performance and features on the market," said Ed Grondahl, vice president of product marketing at ATI. "With the 40 percent performance boost and enhancements to the features the TURBODriver provides, ATI's graphics acceleration products are second to none."
